Said it matter-of-factly with Paul Dottino on their 8/3 spot. Now, once a Giant always a Giant. I understand and love it. But is Diehl correct here? Ellison is obviously a good blocker but I had no idea he was considered the creme de la creme of the entire league. Could explain why the Giants gave him $18M over 4 years?
My ears also perked up listening to Bobby Hart's recent interview. One of my big concerns about last year's offense was McAdoo running the same inside hand-offs over and over again. I could believe we didn't run behind Flowers more.
Turns out, according to Hart, this was by design (a huge relief) due to subpar TE blocking. Quite frankly outside zones were suicide so we stuck to inside. Predicatable, but still better than the alternative.
It all adds up to an O that should look nothing like last year's. Not only with the added personnel groupings but the ability to run both inside and out. Perhaps a swing in performance that startles the outside world. On top of everything else we could have an annoying run game to play against.
Think Martellus Bennett plus hands wise -- but a lot savvier and less wacky -- and a much better and more disciplined and willing blocker
There are no wasted movements with this guy -- he's a surgeon
Though given the state of TE blocking around the league, it's possible.
I would imaging he is right up their with the top blocking TEs in the league.
I think Diehl meant best overall, looking at all the blocks a TE has to make, moving laterally and blitz pick up, as well as taking on guys in the hole

Plenty of guys bigger than ellison that aren't as good at blocking...
He is certainly a very good blocker.
Quote:
given his size, Ellison obviously is not going to dominate a guy like a TE who outweighs him by 20-30 lbs.

Bavaro, who was one of the best, only weighed 245. Blocking is a stay of mind. You either want to d it or you don't.
Dave Meggett was a great blocker and was a small RB.
Btw, leave it to the Giants to go a little overboard in adding TE's just as a couple of the young guys are showing promise. Perhaps there should have been another LT in there somewhere. Too bad that trades for quality players are so rare in the NFL. I know that the reports on Flowers look a little better, but we still really need another hedge at OT.
Is that similar to stay of execution?
Too much?
Too much?
too little and short sighted.
The best there is and ever will be until the end of time.
Let's fire Reese, he brought in a terrific blocker at a position of great need just as Tye was preparing for the Pro bowl.
have the weapons to attack anywhere on the field give
Eli that extra second or two and the deeps passes will
be there .
I think he may have been the best Giants TE as a blocker
ever . No slight on Bavaro he was a beast in all phases .
