NJOKU CONTINUES TO STRUGGLE

Although the Browns believe in Njoku’s skills, he struggled with ball security Friday and fumbled away two passes in team competitions.

While Njoku caught a touchdown pass Monday, he dropped another one at the goal line.

“We just have to fight through it,” Jackson said. “He just has to make those plays. He gets it. Trust me, he doesn’t want to drop the ball.

“Obviously, it happens, so we have to continue to work on it. He has to continue to get better at. The good thing is that he is getting open in those situations. Now, he has to finish the play. We will keep working on that and work through it.”

The drops were one of the big concerns with Njoku
cosmicj : 8/6/2017 2:18 pm : link
Very happy he isn't on the Giants.
Not surprised
ZogZerg : 8/6/2017 2:19 pm : link
He didn't play a lot in college.
One Of My Potential Remote Thrower's.

Glad we did not take this guy.
Believe Sy really liked him.
Jon in NYC : 8/6/2017 2:26 pm : link
Either way, beware of small sample sizes. A couple drops in training camp doesn't destine him to be a bust.
Engram
XBRONX : 8/6/2017 2:36 pm : link
has seven drops last year. Seems to be okay in camp so far.
Not surprised
UConn4523 : 8/6/2017 2:56 pm : link
regardless of how it plays out, I'm glad we didn't fall in love with just measurables.
A bigger surprise
superspynyg : 8/6/2017 2:59 pm : link
is that Kizer might start week 1. They say he is far ahead of Kessler and Oswieler. Long preseason to go though.
Don't need a pass dropper
Stan in LA : 8/6/2017 3:22 pm : link
Dodged a bullet with that guy.

I'd rather roll with Kizer than those two other guys.
Who!?!?

Wait until Engram has his first drop in a game! ;-)

If I recall, OBJ dropped a TD in the playoff game last year. :-(
Dropped passes happen
UConn4523 : 8/6/2017 4:03 pm : link
but it was a huge knock on Njoku as well as his limited overall experience. If he doesn't fix it he won't play much. Meanwhile Engram will be featured pretty early on if all reports on him hold true.
Can Preseason Start?
Samiam : 8/6/2017 4:09 pm : link
Or the season itself, before you start drawing conclusions?
The only thing surprising is that

The Browns cut their starting tight end before training camp. I don't know if it was injury related or not, but in today's NFL, seems like you can't have enough good ones.
These three TE's will be forever compared

down the road....Howard, Engram, Njoku.....

Browns starting TE was not hurt.
Browns are just Stupid.
They should be on year 2 with Wentz instead wasting another year with nothing at QB until they can finally draft a decent one.
It'll be hard

Njoku is rookie. The expectations of an average rookie have gone up to compensate for roster turnover.. but him specifically, he's on a historically terrible team, doesn't have the greatest mentors on his team, and is 20?

Yeah, not surprising.
I never wish negatives on players
Beezer : 8/6/2017 6:44 pm : link
Coming into the league.

But I'm happy without TE choice, and overall TE situation. Lots of ? But some good potential heading toward September.
I had Njoku #1

and am glad they took Engram he looks like a real weapon and is much more polished . There wasn't anything really
worthwhile for the O-line although I like Dion Dawkins at
#2 but losing Big Hank kinda put the k abash on that .
Wanted Foremen at #3 and he's already had an off the field
issue with weed . I sure hope the Webb pick is the future
so far so good .
I was all-in on Engram after the Senior Bowl.
Klaatu : 8/6/2017 9:16 pm : link
I wanted no part of Njoku. Engram was a guy whom I thought could make an immediate impact for our offense. I just didn't see that with Njoku.

Not pulling for the guy to bust

But I'd be annoyed to see him having some kind of stellar camp. Lot of people said they liked him over Engram.

Has any other team signed Barnidge? Didn't Donnell get signed before him?

Going to be interesting to see how Robinson does now that he's been forced to start like Flowers his rookie year. He was a guy I though was worth that first pick. Engrams was more than worth that first pick.

The issue w Ndjoku is that he was more athlete than player at this point and the Giants grabbed the kid who was much more finished. Also mature mentally. OL is what it is. Next year is the issue as only Jerry Hart and Flowers are guantenteed to be on the team. If flowers and Hart don't do well the OL might be a bigger issue.

Win this year. Reese seems all in this and his picks reflect that
week 1 vs dallas
msh : 8/7/2017 2:43 pm : link
once engram torches a safety down the seam for a TD the whole should we have taken njoku instead thing will be dead the giants love guys that can run routes accurately and engram is the best route runner possibly in the whole draft this year
I didn't catch the Senior Bowl

But I agree with you Engram is gonna be a real problem
for the opposition he has some serious acceleration and
great hands I think someone was trying to move ahead of us
to take him.
He is a Brown now
spike : 8/8/2017 10:25 pm : link
so busting is a high likelihood
The guy hasn't even played in a preseason game yet.
Mr. Bungle : 8/8/2017 10:33 pm : link
But he's "struggling" because of some drops and fumbles.
Anyone that paid attention to the pre-draft process...
Torrag : 8/9/2017 2:58 am : link
...knew that this young man is more athlete than football player right now. That always carries some risk due to the projection that he's going to develop the skillsets specific to football to thrive.
