2 yard line?
Interesting
DanMetroMan : 8/7/2017 10:08 am : link
note from Redick, he said he had a 4 year offer from the Rockets, then reduced to 3 and he wasn't too interested in going there both because of role (Gordon) and also because of Morey's rep for making so many trades. He didn't want to move his family (I guess he's not moving them full-time to Philly) and then have to move again in-season. He was complimentary of Morey as a person and GM, just found it to be interesting insight.
Just a three way
Pep22 : 8/7/2017 10:08 am : link
game of chicken between NYK, Melo and HOU. I hope the Knicks continue to sit tight. No reason to cave.
not upset to hear this....
Italianju : 8/7/2017 10:08 am : link
guess we just have to be prepared to have Melo come back. I dont like it, but its better then giving him to HOU for crap contracts and little assets.

I've always wondered if there is blowback for making trades. For example, is Robin Lopez pissed that the Knicks traded him one season after signing him? I would be.

Redick was kind of matter of fact about it but did make it seem like a common feeling is that Morey could make a deal at any time. That said I'm sure there are guys that are ring chasing (like he likely is) accept this as a possibility to join such a good team, obviously he wasn't willing to do so. I just found the insight to be interesting. A little look inside the process if you will.

I suspect the new GM was very negative on an Anderson based trade. Rockets are smart not to push it now. Wait until before camp and call back on the hope that NY is desperate to just not bring Melo back. Otherwise there is no good deal. Houston has bad assets. They cant even negate the downside of Anderson's contract, let alone offer a positive return.
Not
DanMetroMan : 8/7/2017 10:47 am : link
a particularly amazing player but Salah Mejri the Tunisian big on the Mavs moves insanely well for a guy his size, Courtney Lee played his usual Courtney lee game, Capela was dominant, Mudiay looked great (keep in mind it was basically a slightly tighter style than your standard all-star game, KP had some nice highlight plays. If Cousins can behave.... LOOK OUT. He's in amazing shape.

he would not sign with Knicks or Nets...

"Alan Anderson's agent said his client has ruled out signing with the Knicks and Nets.

It was reported last week that Anderson was drawing interest from the Timberwolves, Nets, Raptors and Knicks, so two of those teams are now out of the running. Anderson wouldn't have much fantasy value on the Raptors or Wolves, so the 34-year-old veteran shouldn't be on any draft boards at the moment. He averaged just 2.9 points and 0.8 rebounds in 10.3 minutes per game in Los Angeles last season."

I really wish the Knicks could have nabbed some of the pieces in the CP3 trade. Even if it was just Dekker and the 2018 first, you could atleast talk yourself in to taking back Andersen if they threw in another pick. I would have loved to get Beverley too.

Considering how little leverage they had, the Clippers did very well in that trade.

fired as a college coach a couple of years ago...and then had a short stint in the Bucks front office. Could simply be Mills bringing in an old buddy from Princeton...

I guess they could complete the reunion and bring back David Blatt should Hornacek not want to stick around for long.

front office or there is at least a good amount of turnover happening. I mean im sure its mostly lower level guys, but still nice to get in new blood.

Ian Begley‏ @IanBegley 3m3 minutes ago
Scott Perry is working to add Harold Ellis & Michael Arcieri to NYK's front office, sources tell ESPN. Perry worked with both men in Orlando
I don't think they issue press releases for people who leave
Ten Ton Hammer : 8/8/2017 8:43 am : link
Still don't know who is being held over and who isn't. Anyone reporting anything about Clarence Gaines?
Ellis
DanMetroMan : 8/8/2017 9:03 am : link
and Arcieri were let go by the Magic when they hired their new GM. Sounds like Arcieri is on the business side as his previous title since 2012 was "Director of Basketball Administration", Ellis sounds like he is on the scouting side and conceivably could be the guy replacing Gaines (if Gaines is out) "director of pro scouting" while with Orlando.
I
DanMetroMan : 8/8/2017 9:05 am : link
take that back, Arcieri served as director of basketball administration for 4 seasons, then one season as Director of Basketball operations and was let go.
pretty sure the message is

you can bring in some of your guys but we are keeping most of our guys too--- parallel universe
Seems
DanMetroMan : 8/8/2017 9:24 am : link
like Gaines and Warkentien are the only 2 we don't know the status of so on it's surface hitdog appears right. Looks like they are adding names but not subtracting.
makes zero sense
Enzo : 8/8/2017 9:36 am : link
that Gaines is still around and even less that Rambis is still here. Not sure what the deal is with Warkentien. He could be a Dolan plant...but Dolan doesn't really need a mole with Mills running the show. Warkentien could be a "Mills guy", but I'm pretty sure he was hired at MSG while Mills was in exile. Mathews could be a Mills guy - but I have no idea what he actually does or how much influence he might have. My guess is a lot of this new blood will likely push Houston to the periphery, not that he'd ever be fired. His destiny is to be the Herb Williams of the front office. If we had decent writers, one of the would have done a deep dive on all of this front office nonsense a long time ago.
Unless

I'm missing something GM of the Westchester Knicks is a cush job with very little influence and zero pressure. Free money for a guy Dolan already paid nicely.

he has a dual title...he's also the Assistant GM. The Westchester thing is probably part time for him. As for the free money and seemingly lifetime job security, it likely stems from Houston actually saving Dolan a ton of money when he retired instead of trying to play out his contract.

How much work could the 2nd of 2 assistant GM's do when there is a GM and a president? That doesn't even include these other members of the FO that they hired/and the ones still here?

Mills, Perry, Madkins.. + whomever is still here and hired and Houston. Seems like not much. This isn't baseball with a minor league system, no evidence Houston goes on scouting missions. What could his every day work load possibly be?
which is why I said

Not sure what you mean by scouting missions but Houston was at the combine along with Phil, Mills and Hornacek. And he was also at the summer league. Maybe that's part of the job description of a D league GM, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's not doing those things next year what with all of these new guys in place.

What I mean is I don't think Houston is a primary scout where he's going to NCAA games or advanced scouting of over teams etc. I've never read that to be the case. And yeah he was at the combine, but the Knicks just hired a new assistant GM. Where it used to be Phil/Mills/Houston as the "head" of the franchise. It's now Mills/Perry/Madkins/Houston, that's an extra person with a major title and that's without knowing the status of Gaines/Warkentien or what these 2 new hires will be doing.

Mills replaces Phil
Perry replaces Mills (though it sounds like the talent portion will be more heavily on Perry than it was on Mills which would seemingly eat into any theoretical impact Houston would have. I doubt he's the financial/contract guy)

New York's Damyean Dotson is the 4th player in the 2017 second round draft class to sign a contract for $1M plus. Wesley Iwundu (#33), Frank Mason (#34) and Semi Ojeleye (#37) will earn $1M+ in the first year. The contract for Dotson is guaranteed $1.1M in 2017-18 and $1.4M in 2018-19. The $1.6M salary in 2019-20 is non-guaranteed with trigger dates during the season to guarantee the salary.
