NFT: NHL Network: Top 10 Goalies

pjcas18 : 8/7/2017 11:14 am
Not sure if anyone watched this or cares, but here they are:

1. Carey Price, MTL
2. Braden Holtby, WAS
3. Sergei Bobrovsky, CBJ
4. Matt Murray, PIT
5. Devan Dubnyk, MIN
6. Jonathan Quick, LAK
7. Cam Talbot, EDM
8. Henrik Lundqvist, NYR
9. Martin Jones, SJS
10. Pekka Rinne, NSH

only two (I believe), Murray and Quick, have won Stanley Cups.

Some say Corey Crawford was snubbed. Not sure who you replace for him, Rinne? I like Rinne, but some of you other hockey fans, don't. And he (Rinne) was brutal in some of those SCF games, but incredible in other playoff games.
Reasonable list.

I'd also argue Cory Schneider should be in the 5-to-10 range. He's had stellar numbers every year except last year on a dreadful Devils team.
As Lundqvist
Gman11 : 8/7/2017 11:18 am : link
starts to slide his 8.5 million dollar contract becomes an albatross.

I think Talbot. Good goalie, but I'd take both Crawford and Schneider over him. He's 30 years old and his lowest GAA as a starter in his career is 2.39. Nothing special at all.
I would not put Talbot in the top 10

Crawford and Schneider are ahead of Talbot.
Prior to last season

Cory Schneider was the model of consistency.
2010-11 .929 sv %
2011-12 .937 sv %
2012-13 .927 sv %
2013-14 .921 sv %
2014-15 .925 sv %
2015-16 .924 sv %
I have no issue with either of them
pjcas18 : 8/7/2017 11:30 am : link
over Talbot, or Rinne for that matter.

As long as it's not Rask people want to add.

That oompa loompa is not on my top 10.

Hard to argue with the list
MetsAreBack : 8/7/2017 11:39 am : link
though Quick at this point is pretty overrated. Can't take the two Cups away obviously, but he's posted better than a .920 save percentage once in his entire career during the regular season.

As big a reason as any why the Kings have been consistent regular season underachievers even as they've enjoyed occasional playoff success.
Homer opinion

I have Hank higher. I think he'll bounce back with this better d corps. But more importantly, I just trust him to carry a team in a playoff series more than some guys above him.

Why not? Rask has better career numbers than most. He obviously spent time behind an elite defense. But why isn't he in the conversation?

Quick is very overrated, even though he put together an absolutely legendary postseason in 2012

Let's see how Hank bounces back this season with an improved defense in front of him. I think it's a bit reactionary to put him behind some of those guys who have only put together 1-2 seasons of top 10 caliber play

Well you know my thoughts on Habs Rangers from last year, I believe Hank outplayed Price and that was the difference in the series.

Some of those guys have never even won a playoff series like Bobrovsky (I believe) or someone like Dubnyk who is 30 and has won one playoff series.

Bobrovsky at his best
Kyle in NY : 8/7/2017 12:10 pm : link
might be the best goalie in the league. But he's hurt every other season and has been a complete sieve in the playoffs.
Game 7

I'll take Hank.
Hank should be higher on the list
Torrag : 8/7/2017 12:44 pm : link
Does anyone on that list have a worse defense in front of him the last three years?
I'd flip Henrik and Quick on that list
pganut : 8/7/2017 1:04 pm : link
I'm also skeptical of Murray...still needs to show me consistency over a larger timeframe. In fact, I'd probably outright pull him and replace him with Schneider in that spot.
think Murray is the real
ColHowPepper : 8/7/2017 1:15 pm : link
deal and will stay there (top 10) for a while, young, quick, pretty steady for a rookie going through the SCP mill.....

on the other hand, sigh, I think, I fear, Henrik's standing there is reflective in good part on past accomplishments and not his current abilities

a lot, if he stays healthy he'll be on top of this list in a couple years.

LOL, I coach my daughters team and our goalie is #40. Drives me nuts, but they're all Bruins fans.

I have said many times Tim Thomas in 2011 was among the greatest goalie playoff performances I have seen. and Thomas had some ridiculous regular seasons as a severe late bloomer.

Tuukka, meh. Good not great, always seems to let in the backbreaking goal that you think he should save.

Though when people talk about the defense in front of a goalie it's borderline criminal what they've done to him the past few years.
