So back in June I had an internal interview for a position in my company that would require relocation on my own dime (which is not an issue). I was interviewed 3 times and the hiring manager also had a call with my boss on 7/5. He told my boss that he would have his selection within 2 weeks.
So after 3 weeks I have heard nothing so I reached out to the recruiter to see if there was any updates. She said I was a final candidate and she said they were waiting on final approval and would be in touch the following week (which was last week) to go over the next steps.
So I had my mid year appraisal with my boss today and he asked me if I have heard anything? I told him about the recruiter and then I have heard nothing. He thought it would be appropriate to reach out to the hiring manager and thank him again for the interview touching base on what I bring to the table and ask him if he has made his selection yet. I humored my boss and said I would look into that but I am uncomfortable with going in that direction.
On my end its not me really being impatient, its more I have a lot of moving parts to put in place if I was to get it. I need to sell my house, get a rental so I have a place to go and all of that. Not to mention my current projects I would have to transition.
I am thinking of sitting tight and waiting till September before I reach back out to the recruiter. I am unsure if I should reach out to the hiring manager.
The job still shows open on the site.
What would you do?
This friday just politely email the recruiter, replying to her last email which mentioned when she'd get back to you.
Just mention you are following up.

I might just do that.. houses are selling like hotcakes where I live.. I want to jump on that bandwagon and not miss out.

If not, I wouldn't go over the Recruiter's head. That can backfire.

If you're past the general timeframe when the recruiter said she'll get back to you, I think it's fair game to follow up.
Don't remind her that she told you she'd get back to you last week. Just replying to her previous email will be a subtle nudge
If you are up against another candidate and they are in the recruiters ear, contacting the hiring manager and showing they want the job you may lose out.
As the other poster said, pick up the phone and talk to the recruiter. Ask the recruiter if its OK to reach out to the hiring manager so you are not over stepping your bounds. You want the recruiter in your corner. Time kills a lot of deals. Sometimes companies keep candidates around until someone better comes along.
I would be proactive if you want the job. Good Luck.
The cynic in me thinks he is probably hoping you get the position....
You will find out by the end of the week, one way or the other.

I actually laughed out loud at this. I don't know about him hoping I get the position but I know there is somebody on the team that wants my title.. By me leaving that would open up a position to get promoted into.
He was giving me his opinion on what to do. I don't think I agree with it. I don't think it would be smart during my mid year appraisal to disagree with the man. So I humored him.
I am going to be 50 and have 30 years in the company. So I am far from a Millennial. The recruiter said I can reach out when ever I felt I needed to. By instant message and or email are the best ways to contact her. She said the phone is not a good way.
HAHA, no. Though as someone who has to deal with this- it appears daily, it is my best Guess. Throw in the fact that it is summer and it is always a waiting game with folks on PTO.
