New York Knicks and former No. 2 overall pick Michael Beasley are nearing agreement on a one-year deal, a league source told @BBallInsiders.
The seven-foot Embiid is a freshman out of Kansas in the NCAA whose skill set has already drawn comparisons with those of NBA greats Hakeem Olajuwon, Patrick Ewing, and Tim Duncan. Cofield is definitely impressed with his one-of-a-kind ward. Ive never seen this kind of athlete, maybe ever, said Cofield in an interview with NBA TV. His athleticism is off the charts. Hes got a tremendous work ethic. The 6-3 former NBA cager helped Ginebra San Miguel reach the finals of the 1996 Governors Cup but was replaced by Derrick Rucker prior to Game Four against Alaska, which went on to complete its grand slam. Now 52, Cofield, who played for a few seasons with the New York Knicks and the Chicago Bulls, is training several prospects ahead of the NBA Draft. But one player who clearly stands out is Embiid, who declared for the NBA Draft after just a year with the Wildcats. Anybody who knows him knows he can shoot the ball. He can shoot the ball, he has great touch around the basket, and he can shoot the 15-footer, said Cofield.

-Madkins assistant GM
-Robinson Vice president/player development and G League operations
- Ellis director of player personnel
-Arcieri director of basketball strategy
-Cofield scout
-Gaines remains scout
No mention yet of a role for Allan Houston
Thanks DMM
So, this is a pretty effective makeover. Now I wonder what the sticking point was with Griffin if they let their second choice put his own guys in place.

No problem. No official "word" on Houston/Warkentien/Mathews

Story: The New York Knicks have signed former No. 2 overall pick Michael Beasley to a one-year, $2.1 million deal.
The Knicks Ron Baker has a one-year bird restriction based on the player option for 2018-19. Baker technically has a no trade clause and would have to approve of any trade.
Griffen didn't really want the job and was just using Alan Houston name recognition for a convenient excuse. Kind of hard to get the same reaction if he had used Steve Mills as a reason

works or is this just another somewhat random move? Not sure we needed another SF unless Melo is moving on.
What other small forwards did they have?
Legit question.
It is a legit question. Lance and Kuz. Not great, but if Melo is playing 38 minutes a game it's just 10 minutes for the two of them. You think they are bringing in Beasley for those 10 minutes per game? Possible, I guess.
they dont expect melo around. They already talked about playing Lee/THJR together at times so some SF minutes goes to them. Beasley can play some PF as well so he might be KP's backup more then a SF. Although im not sure where KOQ gets minutes then (at least for the 15 games that Noah is healthy and backing up WH. You would think the knicks at least had to give Beasley an idea that he would get some solid PT.

Bwahahaha
more of a CBA quirk than anything. I think the second he picks up the option he becomes tradeable. But yeah, dumb contract on many levels.

I heard the knicks signed Beasley to the max with a Ntc.

I think it's both a random move and they're still trying to see what's out there for Melo. But I don't think anything happens with Melo until they get closer to camp. August and early September is really the closest the NBA gets to downtime where not much happens.
Beasly from earlier this year...with also a few notes about Craig Robinson. Probably not a coincidence they both got here at around the same time: Link - ( New Window )
I'd like to see him back here. He did the little things, and he did them well. He sets a good pick.
"The Knicks are among several teams in touch with free agent big man Marshall Plumlee, per league sources, ESPN's Ian Begley writes. "... [Plumlee] expects to make a decision on his next team shortly. The Knicks have several big men in their rotation and it's unclear if there would be a roster/rotation spot for Plumlee, who impressed coaches with his development and work ethic over the past two seasons."

Nice read. Thanks for sharing.
You get the vague sense of a real culture shift around the team.
I would imagine the latter...
This.
I don't think very highly of Kuz.

Pretty stoked for the Gallo reunion, personally.

we're obviously working out way thru the 2008 draft. Next year OJ Mayo wont be exciting, but the year after when we get Russ should be huge.

That could help Melo get to Cleveland (if he wants it).
Harkens back to our 2007 Super Bowl DTs. Fred Robbins and Barry Cofield

He didn't want the job they were proposing

Though I think leaning on Melo for 38 minutes shouldn't happen. He's already shown an annoying tendency to break down over a season.

I'm cautiously optimistic.
Perhaps this means the Knicks offered him 20 million.
