I caddied for him once in the 1970s

He was a good friend of the pro at Fairmount Country Club in Chatham. The pro had come from a Hollywood club and knew a lot of these guys. Campbell was a really great guy. Couldn't be friendlier to a 15 or 16 year old kid.

He played with the Beach Boys for a while in 1964 and 1965 before he became a star of his own.

The movie about his last tour...

as he descended into Alzeimer's is still a must-see for fans (link). The affection he got from his daughter and wife, es-especially, is touching.

Btw, there is an open question as to whether his drug abuse triggered the Alzeimer's or whether his nasty relapse in 2003 was an early sign of the disease.

In any event, he left a wonderful legacy of the kind of music that most of us would not have experienced or enjoyed without him. He and Jimmy Webb were a terrific pair.

Did Campbell play the Fairmount Course? I happen to live close to that.
Thanks...

and flawless singer with a perfect ear. I tell my metalhead friend all the time to check out Glen's guitar playing. There is nothing country pickers like Glen and Jerry Reed and Roy Clark couldn't play. Rest easy Glen - well done.
The 2014 documentary was outstanding

I caddied at Fairmount in the 70's. 74,75,76. Not a total regular caddy, but if you got a good loop, you got 10 bucks a bag. Lot of characters. A lot of guys had more booze in their bags than clubs. Sorry to miller. RIP Glen.
'Galveston' has always been one of my favorite songs...

Great story. Also, did not know the Beach Boys connection! Does that make him one or two degrees separation to John Stamos? I kid because I love watching Full House with my kids.

Brian was using the Wrecking Crew for Beach Boys albums. When Brian stopped touring with the BBs he tapped into the Wrecking Crew to fill his void. He played for a couple of years and then was eventually replaced with Bruce Johnston who is still in the band (errr Mike Love's version)

Brian wrote I Guess I'm Dumb and gave the song to GC
