Collins says Granderson will play be the starter because he's "too hot" to sit. Mets give, Mets take away lol.
As I said in the other thread, only in Terry's warped mind is 3 for 17 in August "too hot" to sit. His refusal to give consistent reps to young players when the season is lost should cause him to be fired. Alas, ownership won't do that because it means they may have to pay money to him to not manage.
He said there was a knock from several scouts that Smith might be lazy and have a propensity to get out of shape. It's the first I'd heard...any truth to this?

Earlier in his career he had an issue with conditioning and diet. Gained a lot of weight in a hurry and had to work on that. Haven't heard anything since.

No just the same stupid racist crap that Gavone has been spewing for the last 30 years. Cuz you know if a black guy is overweight, he must be lazy. Unless he plays for the Yankees. Then, he can firebomb orphanages and it's all good.
Still think he ends up in the pen next year barring a huge offseason.
Are Harvey and Boras going to allow the Mets to move him to the bullpen in the final year of his contract?
What can they do? He's on his rookie contract. They have no pull. I think Harvey will have a chance to compete for maybe one spot in the rotation in the spring. He'll be competing with about 5 other guys though. I think it's a good thing. It's what should have happened this year. We just had so many injuries it was ridiculous but in reality a few of those guys should have helped the pen.
I know, I know, not having a great year. But he had a solid July and I'm sure part of his lull this year is just being sick of the 110 degrees in Vegas. His errors at 2nd seem to be minimized and the last time we saw him he took Kershaw deep. Let's give him 6 weeks to see what he's got.
Smith is very heavy currently. This isn't an old story. He's currently carrying too much weight. Whether it effects his game is another story but scouts have mentioned it as recently as last week and photos confirm this. He's "fat"

"Mets officials will be monitoring Smith’s weight. The rotund Smith lost 24 pounds last offseason, but has gained much of it back in the last four months, according to sources, albeit not at the expense of his offensive production."
I saw him with my own eyes watching the 51's last week, he "looks" sloppy but hasn't impacted his hitting to this point. This isn't some Mets hating or racism, he's fat for an MLB player.
Does calling someone "fat" have to be clarified as not a "racist" comment.
Anyway, maybe Dom is packing on a few pounds, maybe there are just too many buffets in Vegas. I'm still excited for this kid. If he can stay within 20-25 pounds and not have it affect the way he hits the ball, feed the man.

I assumed the not racism part was re lazy, not fat.
Mets apparently had a deal at the deadline sending Walker to the Yankees but the Yankees backed out citing medical concerns. I'd dump Walker and Grandy for "anything" right now. Open up AB's.
He does look big. Lazy is another story entirely Â
As for his body, my hope is that being around pros will rub off on him. Nothing like vets to show by example that if you want to stick around, you have to treat your body better.
a bit better than would expect once he gets moving (obviously not a stolen base threat), strong arm. Not many MLB players currently are built like him. Closer to Prince Fielder build than Ortiz but even then, Dom looks "soft", more like Cecil (not as big), Prince always looked like a linebacker to me.

Or Ces will get him smoking. One or the other.
Young was extremely underrated as a 1b. Both he and Sean Casey were underrated due the era they played in. Young from 98-2007-117 OPS+ .295/.350/.488

I should clarify, not Young's PLAY at 1b. He was an awful fielder. But as a 1b in the era he played guy is underrated or was.
but someone wrote in the last few years about how terrible the MiLB player eats. Takeout fast food after games. It's so weird to me that Smith gained the fat back IN SEASON. Teams should be catering the MiLB teams with healthy food.
I compare this to all the writeups about the healthy fare at NFL training camps. In some ways baseball is still so backwards.

Mets, especially in PSL, are one of the better franchises at this actually.

Yankees leak within seconds. Twice. Mets get their 'revenge'.

One of the first things Gabe Kapler did in LA was change the food habits. Kapler likely won't take the job but he'd be high on my list as next manager. Really smart guy,
Really, REALLY bothers me that the Mets were really the first big city franchise to say we are going to revamp from top to bottom. Beginning they did it well. Then Chicago, LA, and cross town beat them to it and did it better.
ultimately his best tool is his ability to make contact, we know he doesn't have a traditional first base power upside, but if he can maximize that contact ability he should have enough power to do so some damage.

ARRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Nimmo
Cespedes
Conforto
Walker
Smith
Cabrera
Rosario

He is a starter without a position yet. Let him play!! He has more HRs than Cespedes this season
Nimmo
Cespedes
Conforto
Walker
Smith
Cabrera
Rosario
You'd really play Reyes everyday over Flores? Why?
Walker/2B
Conforto/RF
Cespedes/LF
Smith/1B
Flores/3B
d'Arnaud/C
Rosario/SS
He might win 20 games this season

Flores was a mistake omission on my part. I do like Flores better at 2B though where his arm won't get him in trouble as much.
Lazy no idea, out of shape yes. He's out of shape

He's acknowledged his love of Mexican food/not watching his diet in the past.

I don't even care if he's heavy. He's a 1B.
But that better come with better power numbers. Nobody likes a fat contact hitter.
Or Ces will get him smoking. One or the other.
Those guys didnt exactly have beach bodies.

Gwynn body wise is a good comp. "Soft" bodied. Puckett was in better shape than Gwynn or Dom.
