Limited by the yoyo coverage of NFLN ...

Bright spots
Def starters mentioned in other posts ...
LB Munson, DE Taylor and CB Hunter on defense
TE Adams,, FB Smith and some flash from Darkwa

Expected more
QBs Johnson and Smith
Backup WR especially Lewis
S Berne and CB Deaton and CB Blake

Disappointment
Hoped LaCosse, Rudolph and Powe would get more chances

Overall ... no injuries, good start

Not a fan of lewis, questionable hands, also seems to lack awareness

We need to look at Deayon while he was playing nickel corner. He hurt himself on specials (which is a big ticket to making the team), but did he cover well? Amos and Blake were terrible. Hunter kept his guy quiet.

One of the beat writers said Deayon was fine in coverage. I'll have to go back and look at the tape. But his size is a problem IMO. Let's remember though that most teams would droll to have Jenkins, DRC, and Apple as their first three CBs. Use Hunter as the 4th CB, and Deayon/veteran cut as the 5th.
Hunter is hopefully good

but if you're gonna kick and yell about the quality at CB5 and CB6, you may want to just start taking blood pressure meds now. It's not going to be much better than what it is right now.
Lewis

has some downfield speed, but still drops way too many passes, including a TD last night. He also ran OOB, nullifying another TD.

Powe and Randolph are ahead of him IMO, but it's only one game, and the Giants may not even keep six WRs.
It seemed to me that Powe
Gman11 : 8/12/2017 11:00 am : link
was open a few times, but didn't get a ball thrown his way.

Engram made a nice read on a scramble when he turned upfield and was wide open only for Smith to throw the ball away.

Not a Lewis fan

I think he will end up disappointing us more than pleasing us. I'd rather roll with the King.

Coach Mac was asked what they had to do to get in the end zone and he said, "Staying in bounds would be a good start"

Between Rudolph Lewis and Powe, based on last night, I'm taking Powe.

as the original poster, and last night there was a No. 43
(whoever that was)....chasing somebody from behind late
in the game after a reception. All I could think of was
Spider Lockhart. You see how it all comes together.
I think NFL films has EVERY film clip of Spider Lockhart
chasing somebody from behind, my goodness it seems that way.
To be fair

it isn't like Lewis wandered out of the end zone - he was forced out by the defender

never seen it with lewis

.

Excluding the O Line for a moment, the depth at the
DB position is the biggest possible issue to me.
Hunter didn't turn his blocker in on the last touchdown run.
Deayon reminds me of Charles James?
The guy that was here for awhile, and then on Hard Knocks with the Texans.
If you can't hold the ball, can't be a punt returner,
needs to clean that up quickly. I don't see him as a nickel.

Geno actually exceeded my expectations. Always thought Johnson was the clear favorite.

Bromley also looked great next Harrison. As a smaller, penetrating type DT he's actually a better compliment to Harrison than Hankins was.
Geno
Archer : 8/12/2017 1:55 pm : link
Geno looked like the Geno of old.

He looks good, moves the team, and then he makes a critical mistake.

He should have had two interceptions one was called back due to a holding call.

That scares me.
Lewis drops passes
adamg : 8/12/2017 3:11 pm : link
Which sucks, because to me it looks like he moves as well as anyone not named Beckham on the team. He just isn't reliable as a pass catcher. That alone removes most of the good he offers. He is a quality gunner though. Idk. I want to see more Powe!
A lot of people, 'round here ....
Manny in CA : 8/12/2017 4:01 pm : link

Worry about Dayton's size; he's 5'9", about 160.

Jackrabbit is 5'10", about 195 ....

So it's about "Neon"'s weight, I d say, but most importantly can he play.

He's more athletic than Hunter, but he MUST stop dropping punts.
Receiverwise ....

I want to see Taverres King's ankle heal and see him zooming down the field, like he did last year. Remember ?

is a pretty good gunner on specials he needs to come under
control better when catching the ball I think he tries too
hard just making the catch . King is likely the next best
wr after the big three but he needs to get healthy and back
on the field . Lane Johnson and Powe all may be in the mix
but special teams is a big plus when your on the bubble

was forced out of the end zone, he did get free, was one step short of re-establishing. When Coughlin was in decline, he was fond of dissing his players, by gesture, or comment. Hope McAdoo does not go down that road.
