Did anyone notice if and how Fluker played last night?

No Where Man : 8/12/2017 11:46 am
I did not watch the game.
I only
ChicagoMarty : 8/12/2017 11:48 am : link
noticed him on a blitz pickup he missed that resulted in a sack while he was double teaming a DT
He didn't look that good at RG
Anakim : 8/12/2017 11:52 am : link
But the one series he played at RT I thought he was pretty solid
Flucker did exactly what
larryflower37 : 8/12/2017 11:52 am : link
he always does.
He didn't read the stunt/blitz and almost got the QB killed.
Amazes me that he continues to have these mental lapses after the amount of time in the league.
Guy needs to stop eating chips and soda at the hotel before practice .

It's easy to pick out one or two plays he missed an assignment, but from what I saw, he won a lot more battles than he lost.
That blitz pickup was the most noticeable play

Other than that I'd say he was serviceable

He did look awful on that blitz but aside from that play, he was reasonably ok. Considering it's the first exhibition game on a new team with new teammates and a new system for him and new coaches, I'd give more than a quarter or do before I call him a failure

My problem with the blitz pickup is that has been a reoccurring issue for his career.
Don't want that to be Eli in a big spot.

It's Flukers first game next to a new center and a new tackle and a new system. It takes time for an OL to develop

Hah I expect this little side note to become a nice piece of BBI lore.

With limited practice time, I expect oline struggles. Hopefully the group takes a step forward next game.

Sorry excuse. He's a veteran. San Diego tried him at guard and he stunk. No one else in the division that played against him twice a year even bothered with him. Bum who will get Eli and the running backs killed if he plays.

How he is not our starting right tackle, what they see in Hart I don't.

He struggled at RT that's why SD moved him to RG.
Which he also struggled at.
The knock on him has always been blitz pick up and speed rush.
If he locks on he is really good and it showed last night
Didn't stand out at all.

That's not why they moved him. They needed a RG because Troutman was terrible, and they had signed another tackle. They figured his run blocking would translate better to G so they shifted him. He was not a world beater at T in SD but he was a better T than G.

May not be the answer, but I felt both Jerry and Richburg were terrible as well. It's nice to have OBJ, Shepard, BMarsh and Engram, but none of it matters if your line stinks and you can't progress to your second read without being clobbered.
Kinda strange watching Flucker's man...
M.S. : 8/12/2017 4:06 pm : link

...slant straight into the Center, and Flucker follows him all the way, blocking down on him even though the DT was fully engaged with the center.

And all the while Fluker is blocking his man with (and into the) Center, he doesn't think once to swivel his head to the right to see if someone was racing through the hole Fluker created.

The hole was there; a Steeler raced through it; and Fluker continued to hump a guy already fully engaged with the center!!!

Quite amazing for a vet to fall for the simplest stunt.
and thus why he was available to sign
Dave on the UWS : 8/12/2017 6:00 pm : link
there were few options for depth and upgrades in the off season and the two rookie tackles have talent but the depth is freakin SCARY!
I hate to say it, but he may be needed
Simms11 : 8/12/2017 10:06 pm : link
if we want to improve our running game. Jerry just is a crappy blocker for the running game. Problem is Fluker is not the best at pass blocking and it's a risk having him in there just to improve the running game. Quitebthe dilemma.
Fluker played right in line with expectations, imo...
Dan in the Springs : 8/13/2017 12:05 am : link
He is very tough when he locks onto someone. As was mentioned earlier, he really doesn't seem to be aware of the rushing lanes created when he engages. Not a great zone blocker, imo, but tough to beat one on one.

Problem is that Jerry had a rough night last night, imo. He clearly was the weakest link on the starting O-line. Actually, Richburg had a rough night as well.

I thought Jones looked really good (except for the poor snap) and I thought Halapio played decent. I want to go back and rewatch more of Halapio this week because he looked pretty stout with a much better anchor than Richburg. Of course he only got in very late in the game, so the competition wasn't as strong.

The idea that Eli was just getting tackled as soon as the ball was snapped last year is way too dramatic. Sterling Shepard caught 65 balls for 8 TDs as the second/third read. Victor Cruz being toast was much more of a problem than people are willing to shovel blame on.
He's fine run blocking
Mike from SI : 8/13/2017 1:17 am : link
but his lateral quickness on pass blocking seemed suspect. Which makes me wonder how he ever survived at tackle.

On many plays that's exactly what was happening. Eli having the 2nd fastest release time last year was why the offense was ever able to move the ball.

Correct. You'd think Eli was sacked 75 times last year reading some posts on this board. We now have 2 TEs who are actually NFL players, a legit #2 WR, and at the very least will be giving carries to 1 or 2 RBs who can actually make defenders miss.

It was also due to play design. There was only 1 player on offense making plays, why wouldn't we get rid of the ball quickly? Some of it was the line, some Jennings being ineffective, some of it was the lack of help for Beckham, and some of it was play calling.
Had some struggles picking up a blitz

But looked very solid to me otherwise. I like him better thanJerry who struggled. I really hope they give him a shot to compete for RG though doesn't sound like it yet. Im a bit puzzled by this, honestly.
