I was in favor of the Giants using a draft pick on him. No way in hell I'd use a second rounder, but maybe a sixth or seventh. Wouldn't shock me if he finds himself - these kickers have rollercoaster careers.
He missed his first extra point attempt last night. Enough is enough
I think he needed to get out of Tampa. As long as he was there, he was going to have to "prove" that he was worth a 2nd round pick.
Now that he's out, he may still be referred to as the "kicker a team spent a 2nd rounder on," but he won't need to prove it.
Kicking is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. Having one less stress on your mind might help a K elsewhere.
MY guess is that his agent is going to try and direct him to a team where there is a veteran K, P and snapper who can support him- and where he would have a chance if the vet K is on thin ice. I don't think the Giants are going to rate very high on his list- the swirling winds of December are not where you want a young K who has struggled to end up.
He is a kicker. The game doesn't change that much from College to the NFL from a kickers point of view. They guy had a strong leg and he set the record for accuracy by a kicker I believe. If this was a QB or DE I would understand your sentiment.
Screw you all... I think the 'noles outfit is sweet. Â
and it's not even close. Maybe not the franchise ramification of trading up to the first pick to take a bust QB, but much much much worse IMO. In terms of risk vs reward at the time of the pick coupled with the results - the worst pick ever.
not being able to make the transition to the NFL isn't that odd.
From when John Lee, who at the time set the accuracy record couldn't make it to Ali Haji-shiekh, and numerous Lou Groza award winners.

For being the best kicker in college, less than half of them have made it to the NFL
Only kicker I can remember wanting to spend a draft pick on was Mason Crosby who has mostly be $$ for Green Bay, most recently obviously vs Dallas in a high pressure 51 yard game winner.
By & large, they're just not worth a draft pick though. The list of great NFL players (non kickers) drafted late is not a short one.
From what I understand this guy might catch the ghey from having a purse dog. He is definitely balls deep in Aaron Rodgers in a discreet club somewhere in the all powerful Midwest Gay Club scene tonight. Probably has a great Hollywood career in his near future.

Don't laugh, man.
Remember, Bryan Kehl said Coughlin didn't like him because he wore a pink shirt.
RE: RE: RE: I met him in a golf shop when I was in Clearwater for work in February Â
Aguayo's biggest selling point was accuracy, and even that aspect of his game tailed off a bit later in his FSU career.
The logic of the Aguayo pick - such as it was - had to be that the longer extra-point put a bigger premium on mid-range accuracy. A kicker who isn't 100% reliable from 30-35 yards can easily cost a team one or two games a year by missing XPs and chip-shot FGs. Aguayo was supposed to take that risk off the table for the Bucs for ten years, AND give them a Dan Bailey-type weapon from 40+. I still think they overpaid, but I can sort of see the reasoning. The problem isn't just that they misjudged Aguayo; it's that they wildly overestimated the usefulness of college performance in projecting a kicker to the NFL (see FMiC's list above).
Is Aguayo salvageable? It's impossible to guess. But if you bring him in to compete with Rosas (with Nugent on speed-dial, just in case), and they both kick well, whom do you keep? Does Aguayo's FSU career still carry any weight? Can you completely discount his failure in Tampa?
Anyway, we'll know soon who claimed him - if anyone. Â
...is that Connor Barth now gets to compete with Aguayo, who took his job in Tampa without ever kicking a ball. The Bucs released Barth two days after trading up to draft Aguayo.
From the Giants' perspective, it means either Barth or Aguayo will eventually shake loose. Barth is another solid, journeyman kicker - probably a notch up from Nugent at this point. His career was derailed in 2013 when he tore his Achilles playing basketball. He seems to have bounced back fully.
Yes, he has to clear waivers. Players with at least four vested seasons do not.
The kicker better be the next Janikowski to justify a second round pick.

No thanks.
Janikowsi worked out. But I certainly wouldn't ever be on board for a kicker earlier than maybe the 5th?
No thanks.
Seriously? About the dog? I would cut him for that alone. Paris freaking Hilton.

Well, suppose he was planning on cooking and eating the dog later on. Would that change your opinion of him?

This is now an all time great football story. Traded up into the second round in order to get a kicker who looks like this:

Book it.

Other than that, he's fine.
