At least BBI isn't disappointing in overreacting to the preseason games.

Does somebody need to post the timeline of Richburg's injury again, or is everyone going to continue to rail that he's a small, weak man?

he'd be great at Center
Some times you have to do the unexpected

If we out Vereen in to play center the other team will not k ow what to do. Victory Giants.
Don't worry
XBRONX : 8/13/2017 7:54 am : link
Rich burg will be at full strength by game 12 this year.
How about Rosas?
BigBlueShock : 8/13/2017 8:00 am : link
He's got a strong leg which should help with the initial push and if he can kick and play center we can use the extra roster spot for a second punter in case Wing goes down. Gotta plan for everything.

I think this guy is on to something
Maybe he should just be swap(p)ed out

altogether.

Why go half-assed with the question or approach...

He doesn't even have to move. And you can't move him so ...

(BTW, I feel like I started this. Sorry guys!)
I bet Aaron Donald could play center.

Seriously, all this from the 1st pre-season game where he played 2 series. Wholly over reaction Batman.
Nah, play single-wing

So we're STILL using an injury excuse or did I read that incorrectly?

And is it really a controversial opinion that Richburg lacks play strength??

Well, it certainly is credible that the post-op recovery prevented him from strength training. But what his defenders don't account for is that he wasn't a strong anchor prior to his injury.

Were folks questioning his play strength in 2015? I can't recall.

Anyway...there isn't a bigger Richburg fan on BBI than me. When I watched him stone Aaron Donald and Ra'Shede Hageman in succession at the 2014 Senior Bowl, I said to myself, That's the guy I want the Giants to draft.

Now, did he look good on Friday night? Nope. However, I won't pass final judgement on the guy after only 18 snaps in the first preseason game. I think that would be a little premature.

Too many people here (and elsewhere) are very quick to bury a player (or elevate one) based on preconceived notions, shibboleths, or whatever. It's a long season. I'll let it play out a little bit more before I say anything definitive about anyone.
Don't worry it's his last year

You won't have Weston Richburgh to kick around anymore.

You know I kind of started this on another thread. I'm not trying to bury the guy. This is a Giant forum. I'm simply asking questions and getting opinions from other Giant fans to see if they see what I'm seeing.

Every time I've watched a game last year, someone was getting knocked back into the backfield on running plays. One of the culprits was obvious - "Leaping Larry'. The other stuff (interior line play) is not easy to discern. It seems like it's coming from the right side. Right away you think John Jerry is the culprit. On closer inspection, you start questioning who's blocking people in the center of the line. Richburg did seem to have a good 2015 so you didn't initially think it was him. But it was!!

Where are we now? Not sure. You're right, it's just the first preseason game and only a handful of plays. I was hoping for something better. I didn't get it. It's not wrong to watch this going forward and see if there's some improvement here. Maybe he needs more time to get his game together after an injury plagued 2016. What do I know? Just because you see inconsistent play and raise it on this forum doesn't mean you're trying to bury someone. Let's pull back on some of that. I know offensive line play is a process. Let's hope it gets better over the course of the next few games.

I believe it was in your thread that I compared what's said about Richburg now to what was said about Shaun O'Hara when he was Eli Manning's hand-warmer. Too small, too light, always gets pushed back, etc. Most of that was without foundation then, and much of it is without foundation now.

Questioning Richburg's play strength...the idea that he's always getting pushed back by larger DTs...that's one of those shibboleths I mentioned (BBI is loaded with them). Someone says something which then gets repeated by someone else, and pretty soon it's accepted as gospel, even though there may be very little evidence to back it up.

And, as with Jay Bromley, Mykkele Thompson, and a host of other guys, if you thought they were draft "reaches" or just bad picks, you're going to be predisposed to believe (and even reinforce) every negative thing said or written about them.
The O-line is a concern
Bluesbreaker : 8/13/2017 11:12 am : link
It's the same as last year I think it will be improved
two young tackles that struggled have shown signs of improvement that has to continue . The guard play is another aspect that should help Richberg but John Jerry is not know for his run blocking either then there is Pugh who
is probably the best lineman on the team that has been nicked up from time to time . God forbid is there are
injuries because our depth is questionable at best .
To add to this..

It is strange that his 2015 level of play is dismissed, even though we now know he was playing with a significant injury in 2016.

It is almost like the posters who claimed that Vernon was going to be a waste of money and who took plays off when they didn't realize he had a shattered hand.

The guy was considered the 2nd best C two years ago - yet people keep saying he's too small or weak, and that's despite the fact he's neither based on a comparison to his peers.
Funny how the concept of "swapped out" has been completely ignored

Who would you swap him out with? For better or worse the Giants are stuck with what they've got at OL until next year.

Probably because it's a ridiculous, unrealistic premise.

The backup OC on this team is even smaller than Richburg is. If you're worried about the guy getting pushed backwards, Brent Jones isn't your answer.

Prediction: the OL looks better in the 2nd preseason game and then posters dismiss it because "it's the Browns"
.
arcarsenal : 8/13/2017 3:43 pm : link
