Seemed to me that Sullivan was calling the plays Friday. Is this a permanent move or just for the preseason. Until he really fails I'd like to have Sullivan calling plays. Mac should be overseeing the whole game. Eli is going to check off anyway to what he sees. The other thing there was a larger selection of plays, a good mixture of runs and passes. Last year in preseason it was so vanilla I just remember it being run, run, run and not much else.
On a different note, I was really disappointed in Richburg. As stated in many threads he was pushed back too much and couldn't hold the line of scrimmage.
If Sully calls the plays, they are McAdoo's plays.

Exactly. It's called delegation. A good manager delegates the responsibility to his subordinates. They, Mac, Sullivan and I'm sure Eli have discussed the game plan during the week prior to the game. When the defense is on the field they can review what they liked, what worked and what needs to be changed.

Not if the manager's job is at stake. McAdoo's job is to win football games. If he believes the Giants have a better chance of winning with him calling the plays, then he should be calling the plays. Play calling is more art than science, you can't just assume someone can do a good job just because they are well-studied at it.
Then why is he the Offensive Coordinator? Hire someone who MAc wants to call the plays. He doesn't call the defensive plays that's left to Spags. Maybe coming from the business world I have a different take. The best managers I worked for delegated and handled things at a higher level. The ones that were 'hands on' weren't effective managers. Everybody's job is on the line. You don't produce you're out.
Do we know if he's going to continue to let Sullivan call the plays once the season starts? If I recall last preseason they split the duties alternating the four games.
I wonder how many head coaches call their own plays? I'd be curious to know.

Everyone likely has an opinion on this, but I've felt for a long time, a beginning head coach in the NFL, like McAdoo, has way too many issues to deal, to also effectively manage the burden of play calling.
Hire the best O-coordinator you can, and give that responsibility to him.
In special situations, game on the line, sees the O-coordinator making bad decisions, he should by all means take over.
