NFT: Injury question

Beezer : 8/13/2017 8:01 am
Playing basketball. You're running and plant to cut. Mini-explosion occurs in the bottom of your heel.

Not Achilles. Not the arch. Just the heel.

Limped around yesterday/last night. This morning, can't put any weight on it.

No need for "don't ask BBI, ask a doctor." Not a pro athlete, and it's the heel fercrisakes. Lol

Thanks for any insight.

That's Probably What It Is

I've had it. Got it about the same way. You just have to stay off it.

And ice, plenty of ice!!!

and from what I was told, you will always be susceptible to re-aggravating the tendons. Ice and keep off of it. If it warrants, go to the podiatrist. They will likely give you a direct steroid injection and perhaps a regimen of pop-pack steroids. You will likely benefit from arch supports and look up stretches to do.

Since I've had it, the best thing you could do is proper stretching. Not just for sports and physical activity, but ordinary getting around.
Could also possibly be

A heel pad contusion. Had a friend that had that once and it was very painful.
If it is plantar fasciitis
Jim in Fairfax : 8/13/2017 10:09 am : link
It's not something that's likely to go away even after the pain is gone. It's something that needs to be managed.

You need good, supportive shoes. You may need orthotics. If you're overweight, losing weight will help. And lots of stretching -- tightness of the ligaments running through your foot is the core problem.
Also, if it's plantar fasciitis...
M.S. : 8/13/2017 12:59 pm : link
...one of the stretches often recommended is to roll your foot over a tennis ball.

Gently at first.

But when it flares up... ice. elevation and you can try an anti-inflammatory drug if you are able to take it.
Yup plantar sounds right.

Plenty of ice and some Advil here and there.

Should feel better in a few days. Stay off the basketball court for atleast 2 weeks after all and any symptoms subside.

Could be a week, could be a year. Key is to manage it NOW.

Good luck.
Oh and get new basketball sneakers
DennyInDenville : 8/13/2017 1:03 pm : link
Burn the shoes you were wearing imo. It's all in the sneakers sometimes.

Unkind and unwelcome remark. This part of the board is NFT, as you may have noticed.

Lighten up, Francis. It is Larry and Beez. You have been registered long enough to recognize their banter.

Sorry. You're right. Unfamiliar with both. Aging brain . . . .
Go see a foot and ankle

specialist and ask about PRP. It worked wonders for my chronic Achilles tendonitis. My wife had it done on her plantar fasciitis and never had a recurrence.
