Duggan's rationale for keeping Lewis instead of Powe is that Lewis is faster, and therefore more of an asset on special teams. I've got a bit of a problem with that.

Lewis ran a 4.57 at the Combine. Powe did not attend the Combine, but ran a 4.49 at his Pro Day. Now, even if you believe that Pro Day numbers are inflated, I don't think anyone believes that they're done so to a ridiculous degree. It's not like Powe actually ran, say, a 4.75 and they clocked him at 4.49. The difference in straight-line speed between the two of them seems negligible to me, and let's not forget that Powe is almost two inches taller and twenty pounds heavier than Lewis, and a hell of lot stronger (at least where the bench press is concerned), and put up better numbers in the VJ and BJ.

We also know that Powe was a pretty good special-teamer in college, with a blocked punt to his credit, and was only taken off special teams when he became a much bigger part of the Cal offense. I'd take Powe over Lewis every day and twice on Sundays.
I'm rooting for Shane Smith

Wonder how the tight end numbers will work out for him. Giants need a traditional FB at least for a handful of plays on gameday. Smith fills the bill.

Watch last year's film. Lewis proved to be an excellent gunner.

Competent, certainly. Excellent? I don't know...I don't think he's anything special, and if they can upgrade at WR and not lose anything on STs then I say go for it.

I agree. That settles it. Lewis is gone, Powe stays.

now it's Powe over Lewis and Rudolph for the sixth WR spot. assuming they even keep six.

For some strange reason I can't get Coach McAdoo on the phone to let him know what we've decided.

I'll keep trying, though.

"He has to make him miss and he has to run him over," McAdoo said. "We have to at least get a first down on that play."

That's it Coach, don't let them feel complacent or satisfied, I like it!

He was better than competent. And he is faster. His problem is drops. And that's a deal breaker for me. I'm with you on Powe; I liked what he showed, but lying to yourself and others about Lewis' talent ain't fair.

Who's lying? Lewis' five whole special teams tackles make him a competent gunner, but he's hardly the second coming of Reyna Thompson.

Couple that with his five receptions and it says "eminently replaceable" to me.

He's nothing special (no pun intended).
I like Munson

Should stick
my money's on Wheeler to be the swing tackle
JonC : 8/14/2017 11:56 am : link
and Flowers' back up, which Pugh is not.

Munson's going to have to provide versatility as keeping two MIKEs would be a rarity.
