NGT: Cutler - I'm a QB, I don't have to be in great shape

LCtheINTMachine : 8/13/2017 10:06 pm
I started a thread the other day about how QB was less physically demanding and I didn't explain it well enough, my apologies.

Well here is Jay Cutler - a starting QB in the NFL - saying the same thing. I am not saying this is true for everyone, I mentioned Big Ben and Cam as exceptions, but Cutler is saying what I tried to articulate much better.
Cutler: "I'm a QB, I don't have to be in great shape" - ( New Window )
As someone who use to articulately say:

I'm not sure Jay Cutler is the guy you want to use as proof for anything regarding QB play.
Cutler is also one of the biggest asshole cock tease qbs

In NFL history.

You kind of want your qb to be in tip top shape.
When Sonny Jurgensen was asked about his gut he said,

I don't throw with my stomach! If you are a true qb, a qb who is not a run first qb maybe you don't have to be in great shape.
Reminds me of Jon Kruk (sp?) in his playing days

He was asked about his build, smoking etc. He said something to the effect of "I'm not an athlete I'm a baseball player".
I'll just leave this here

is in great shape?
Cutler said what many other QBs are thinking.

Not every QB in this league is in great shape. Someone posted the pic of Eli. His brother was not in great shape either. The workout routine for the average QB is probably not what you think. They are spending far more time working on the X's and O's.

That being said, the QBs who need to rely on their athleticism (QBs that rely on their legs) are most likely going to do a little more to keep themselves in shape.
Eli went through a baseball inspired training regimen

To help his throwing strength that was well publicized. He may not have a bodybuilder's physique but I believe he's considered a hard worker on the conditioning side.
Eli's trimmed down considerably since that pic was taken.

He's noticeably leaner than he was in his younger years. Amazing to think about his dedication and commitment, and it makes Cutler sound a bit lazy. Even though he was probably just joking.

Your BRAIN WORKS BETTER when you are in good shape. That translates to better and quicker judgment during a play, and being able to study longer and learn better when reviewing film and the playbook.

The fact that Cutler continues to make idiotic statements is a good indicator that his brain is not what it should be as a result of his body NOT being in "great shape."
The problem with Cutler has always been about attitude

and commitment to his craft, this only reinforces it, in my book.

Yup, his career in a nutshell. Incredible talent, cannon arm and mobile ... with no work ethic.

Webb reminds me of Cutler (from a skill set perspective), but also seems to have the work ethic you need to succeed (Eli - esque)

The biggest myth about cutler is how talented he supposedly is
LatHarv83 : 8/17/2017 10:49 pm : link
Strong arm, sure. That's about where it ends. Horrible footwork. Not particularly accurate. Doesn't see the field well. People are enamored with arm strength, and thats certainly important, but it's not the end all. I actually don't think the knocks on him of being an underachiever are all that warranted. He has had an OK career. He was never some generational prospect or anything. He's approaching 150 career starts, he has had his moments. He just gives off a vibe that people don't like seeing from a position where we are used to CEO like behavior
