Raanan: Don't forget about veteran Shane Vereen

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. – For the most part, it had been a quiet training camp for veteran running back Shane Vereen. That was until Sunday served as a reminder of the unique skill set he adds to the New York Giants offense.

The slow start to the summer was in part because of a lower body injury and the Giants' plan. They intended on bringing him along slowly all along following a season where he twice tore his triceps and missed most of the year.

Now that he's healthy, this seems to be the portion of the summer where the Giants are ready to slowly integrate Vereen back into being a major piece of the offense -- like his was prior to the injury. When they took the field for the start of live drills at Sunday's practice, Vereen took the initial snap with the first-team offense. He caught a pass out of the backfield. It was a sign of things to come....

its difficult to evaluate his value.
Not really difficult at all

He was remarkably consistent for 3 years b/t New England & NY as far as 400-500 receiving yards a season.

He was (understandably) pissed after the concussion in the Dallas game. Finally comes back after the triceps injury and doesn't last more than a couple plays before gettin re injured

An obvious weapon. Look no further than the Niners comeback (Donnell catch game) when he killed SF on that last drive.

We don't really talk about the third-down back role because Vereen has a firm grip on it. What happens beyond 2017 is a different question; by that point, Vereen will be a UFA and Gallman/Perkins may have pushed him aside. For now, though, a healthy Shane Vereen has a very clear place in the offense.
Easy to forget!

Yeah, great comparison.. a Super Bowl champion who caught nearly 60 passes for this team a couple years ago and is averaging about 4.5 YPC as a Giant is just like a late round DB who never sees an NFL field and gets cut.

I think he was trying to be funny.

Comparing one of the better 3rd down RBs in the league

and his performance and routes. Did a great JOB for us in the past. He could be there because ELI has major input as he should have with the HC.
So at some point we ma have

an all Shane backfield! I'm not sure why I'm so excited about this. But I am.

Let's not go that far, the guy has proven himself in his career at least. Yep, needs to stay healthy this year.

No it’s not. The offense is night and day when he’s healthy. He’s a big reason Eli had his best completion percentage.
Had one year
