The cross town rivals go out for 4 games. Starting tonight at Yankee Stadium. The Mets are looking to play spoiler while the Yankees are looking to solidify their playoff chances. With Montero pitching tonight, I think the Mets should just forfeit the game and give it to the Yankees and save the hits for tomorrow.
Many other storylines to watch. Judge vs. Conforto and the battle for who is the best young player in NY. Right now Judge is ice cold while Conforto is red hot. Also, the Mets will have Rosario and Smith get their first taste of the Subway series. Finally, does Chapman turn it around after a rough outing (really one pitch) last night.
I was thinking, when is it time to retire the Judge's chambers. I think it is clear now the Yankees should not have started this as soon as they did. Judge may still be a great player, but this was unneeded pressure to put on him.

That might have been confusing how I wrote that. I meant to say that a yankee fan used Adam Jones as the ceiling for Michael Conforto. Which is laughable since Conforto has already outproduced Jones. Who knows with Frazier.

Well they made the playoffs back to back years and went to the world series 2 years ago. Not a huge stretch to think they'll contend again next year if a few guys bounce back and/or they have some better luck with injuries.

As far as production goes, sure, but he clearly has the goods. His bat speed and power are def MLB caliber and top notch. He's young, you hope the production will come with experience and pitch recognition.

It's a pretty volatile situation so I think the 2018 Mets probably have one of the widest range of outcomes in MLB. I know that sounds like a cop-out, but I'm not sure how else to put it.
Dan's right that the farm system doesn't look great at the moment, but there still will be a lot of nice under 30 talent on the MLB roster next year.
The 5 year prognosis will really depend on how guys like Syndergaard, DeGrom, Matz (pitchers who were really good in parts of 2015-2016 and during the 2015 playoff run), and Conforto, Cespedes, Rosario, Smith (controlled bats) look. IMO, the rest of 2017 is primarily about seeing how these guys finish, as well as some secondary players (Flores, Nimmo, Lagares, the bullpen).

I just disagree with the Conforto/Frazier comp. Don't think there's a basis for it. Doesn't mean it can't become one. But Frazier doesn't have the track record that Conforto has. That's all. Conforto and Judge may turn out to be very different players also.

Phil, just as Metnut said a wide range of outcomes is possible for the Mets and its not a cop out to say that...my instinct is the same for Judge.
We do not have a lot of examples of players that heavy or tall who can keep their timing and mechanics when all the levers are large and the plate remains the same and the ball is thrown at 82-102mph.
One injury or the wear and tear of position play and the challenge of getting 280 pounds of man to swing a I.5 inch wide bat through a 17 by 30 inch zone in milliseconds can be a struggle.
Do I have hope he learns to hit 300plus with a 400plus OBP and does so by settling for less homers and therefore lasts 12 years. Yes.
But I can find very few comparisons.
Conforto and Frazier ( while they have vastly different track records so far) or Conforto and Bird are to me better comparisons not on results but on likelihood of being 10 year plus players of some sort.
Based on the data so far ( and I had not seen Conforto until last night) I would guess Conforto wins those projections.
We would both agree that at their absolute full potential and after a few years of results, Conforto and Judge are likely very different and tremendous players. I doubt Judge can play the field ten years like Conforto can and play with distinction...that's just one example. At their best potential I doubt Conforto is a 45HR/425OPB DH
Anyway, like all fans and fan discussions we will have to wait and see.

Believe it or not, I think the Knicks are fucking worse.
At least the Mets have fielded a good team recently and won a couple playoff series'... the problem with a team like the Mets is that they're just never set up to compete long-term because they're poorly run. So, you get these blips on the radar and chances to win.. 99, 00, 06, 15.. but if you don't, you're probably not getting another shot at it the next year.

The Giants really can't get here soon enough. Between NYG and the Rangers, I should have a much more enjoyable Fall/Winter in the sports world.
The only bonus to the Mets sucking is that I can go to a game and sit a couple rows off the field for like < $100 and enjoy all of the amenities without giving a shit whether the team wins or loses.
