Morning BBI. I thought there might be some interest in the following article on Olivier Vernon, who this offseason incorporated Krav Maga into his training. Vernon also touched a little on what he did at Von Miller's pass rusher summit as well as a few other topics.
Enjoy!

On topic, do you guys think Flowers lining up against Vernon HELPS Flowers? Or screws with his confidence?

Thanks. Iron sharpens iron. The LT usually goes against the opponent's best pass rusher. If anything, OV has been trying to HELP Flowers with tips on handle certain rushes. I noted in my August 13 camp report, OV told me that he's seeing improvement in Ereck, most notably in his hands.

Beats me, but he has to put his "big-boy pants" on and play against whomever lines up against him...

That's great, Pat. You just never know. I think back at Mark Sanchez on Hard Knocks pouting in the tape room saying "I suck".. glad to hear Flowers stepping up.
I was in Pittsburgh for college during the late 70's and was "forced" to follow the Steelers. The Steelers OL greatly improved and much of credit was due to them practicing against the Steel Curtain on a daily basis. Hopefully lining up against OV will improve Flowers game as well.

Great question. I was going to bring this up on a separate thread. Everyone generally agrees that going up against top flight competition will make you better. If that were always the case we would have one of the best offenses in football. Obviously we don't.
While it's true that going up against someone better than you will challenge you to become a better player in most cases, if the guy is arguably one of the top 3 DE in the game and your trying simply to reach a level of play that's acceptable, can it be too much? Will it screw with your confidence? Will it screw with your mechanics as you get frustrated getting beat by him in practice? These are only questions and I believe they're legitimate.
It will be interesting to see how well the other LT's in the league do against Vernon this year. He may be giving lessons to them all.
I don't post much here, but read a lot and wanted you to know I appreciate these kinds of article posts from you.
Hey, when someone notices a grammar/typo/editing issue that stands out in one of your articles, is it worthwhile having them pointed out or is that just annoying? I didn't know if it's easy to go in and edit after the article is already posted.
Anyway, the thing that jumped out (probably just one of those typos that doesn't get picked up) was that his "dominate wrist" should be "dominant wrist." If you do change it, you should probably take out the comma in that same sentence, too. :-)
Ok, enough being "that guy." Thanks again for the interesting article. I'm crossing my fingers that OV stays healthy this season and that his extra work results in even better play and more sacks.
