After a come from behind win for the Yankees, we have a great pitching matchup tonight.
I will be in attendance in my Doc Gooden METS jersey tonight to watch the DeGrom take the mound. This may be a bit hyperbolic, but tonight DeGrom takes the mound with all of Mets nation on his shoulders. This season has been a DISASTER. What was thought to be a World Series year has turned into a nightmare. What was thought to be a Mets town has gone quickly back to the Yankees. Tonight DeGrom can fill us Mets fans with a sense of pride in taking the mound and DEGROMINATING the Yankees from pitch 1. Enough of ALL RISE!...Enough of Gary Sanchize!..Enough of feeling like second class citizens. THIS IS OUR CITY TONIGHT!! LETSSSS GOOOO!!!!
The Yanks have done a terrible job scoring runs for Gray, so maybe you'll get your DeGromination.
LMFAO
I enjoyed this one too.
How's this game thread working out for you bigbluewreckingcrew?
LOL, this is definitely what this dude looks like.
He's a Mets fan?
Is that really you?
2. The Astros are in trade talks with the Tigers discussing a deal that will bring Verlander to Houston

True, but if we are really being picky...it's actually an upside down, backwards uppercase P.
I guess I selfed myself.
Who did we ever pick with our top pick that turned out to be a utility IF?

Cecchini is, if we are lucky. Nimmo is looking like a backup OF.
We need some talent infusion in LV
"The Rangers traded Snider to the Mets on Tuesday for cash considerations, Marc Carig of Newsday reports.
A former top prospect, Snider hasn't reached the big leagues since 2015, when he appeared in 87 games with the Pirates and Orioles. Despite the organizational change, Snider doesn't appear particularly close to earning another look in the majors, even though he's slashed a respectable .294/.375/.435 in the Pacific Coast League this season."

LV season is over. They have had an absolutely awful season despite Rosario/Nimmo/Smith. They don't "need" anything but their season to end.
Syndegaard is a moron, and the Thor persona is stupid. And I'm a Mets fan.
Oddly it was a National League city previously. Of course it was when the Dodgers and Giants were New York teams. Many of those fans switched to the Mets and I would presume their families maintained the National League allegiance.
Of course being a lifelong Yankees fan, as was my family since the 30's, it is hard for me to believe New York is not a Yankees town.
People always flock to the team that is winning. There was a ton of buzz around the Mets 2 years ago when they went on their WS run.
It's just how fans are. A lot of people suddenly wake up when a team is winning and tune out when they aren't.
I do think when fans get all riled up about who "owns" the city or any of that, a lot of it is just projecting inferiority/superiority complexes and tends to tell you a bit about that person (I'm not a real psychologist, I just play one on BBI... )
I was in the car the other day and some Yankee fan called WFAN and all he wanted to do was talk about how they're better than the Mets again and how happy he is that Mets fans have nothing to crow about now, etc. etc. It's not unique to Yankee fans, idiot Mets fans were calling in 2 years ago and claiming ownership of the city and saying the Mets were going to be the toast of the town for the next 10 years, etc. which is just as stupid.
I don't know why anyone cares about the other NY team aside from when they're playing each other.
I don't root against the Yankees when they're in the postseason. If they win, good for them. The teams aren't rivals unless you're interested in dick-measuring contests and need something to feel good about in life.

Wouldn't mind a Bird/Cooper platoon with either guy taking DH duties either.
And when Castro comes back too...

I'm with you. I don't denigrate the Mets and I hope they do well, just not against the Yanks.

Weird. Commercials are fine.
Uhhh, no.
With that said, as a Yankees fan I do wish the best for the Mets and hope for another Subway Series championship showdown in the future.
Up to Frzier, now.
agree - that first pitch was the best one he got.
Up to Frazier, now.
And right on cue - RISP fail.
Yeah Didi fucked that up not being on third.
I'd rather he starts to ARod and look to hammer first pitch fastballs. If he runs into it he is about 50/50 on getting a hit.
At this point, I'd think about dropping him in the order....perhaps sixth. Maybe move Didi up to third. At least until he gets it figured out again.

Why do people keep saying this? BTW, how many games has he recorded multiple walks during that span? The answer is 5 times. We get it... he's struggling. But he's still drawing walks, so he should stay high in the order.
He finished with one league MVP. He wouldn't place in the MVP voting again until 1931 (5th) and 1932 (6th).
Best player in MLB history and he has one MVP and only in the running three times.
Trout has 2 mvps and has finished second 3 times.
The way this game has been played, scored and captured over time is really unique.
He found that 2011 power.
The Mets are up, so push the walls back out Jimmy.
Love me that aluminum.
gRay is outpitching the Mets guy.

The minimum distance for the fences is 250 down the lines. I say we get these fences manned by topless (male) operators who rotate them in in the bottom of the innings.
whacka-hacka-whacka
Even Conforto looked like he was ready to roll the second he stepped on a MLB field but he hit a rough patch and had a tough second season (injuries also played a role)
Takes time.
I have little doubt that Amed is going to be a stud. We'll see with Smith - it's going to depend on his power stroke and how much further along he can go with it.
Careful. Careful. You're dangerously close to sending out the Z-at Signal.
He was a budding star. Some buds get eaten by bugs. It happens.
Robots please!
Surprised how fast Cespedes is. Two infield singles, that last one I thought was an easy out.
deGrom has been in trouble and still only 65 pitches.??
Robots please!
You can tell how slow I type....
Nice shot!!

In the midst of foot coma, had some spaghetti puttanesca and enjoyed some Ellsbury actually contributing.
I was like, dude you need to see a doctor immediately. Wtf is a foot coma?
Glad you're OK.
And that is what he gets - a stupid effin HR.

Hahaha. That's your best post ever on BBI. Well done.

If Mo Vaughn doesn't hit an El Cheapo this game looks a lot worse.

Very efficient, gave up some hrs and Toe got two important hits. Yanks hit him hard a few times where the Mets made plays, but he was solid.

Yes
Agree, except he missed a slider on 2-1 that was a strike.
It was low.
Robots.
Almost Chapman proof now...
Agreed. Just start Chief for the weekend. Use Gardy to PH for Romine maybe one gme
Mets will still lose this game, but it's nice to get a little glimpse of the future
He isn't that off but just missing locations like crazy.

Talent shines through ready or not ;-)
Most want Castro gone for Torres, but yes agreed
I said this the other day and basically got driven away. Isn't it obvious he is in a slump? He needs a break of some kind - bring him in situationally against lefties for a while. We have other relief pitchers.
Nice play by Didi though!
We still believe in you going forward. Just might not be your year.
Maddon went ham on that arm.
El Baghdad! Where you been Z?
Just crawling outta the woodwork when your team gets within one?
Always nice to protect home-field, though! Love this win.
Robertson or Betances as new closer for now?
I say Robertson but I'm cool with Betances as well, his fielding just scared the fuck out of me. He improved it slightly this year but it's still horrific when it happens
DL him for 10 days.
We will need him right to make a push in September.
Almost Chapman proof now...
See I have a future in the psychic industry!
Think he twisted an ankle...
DL him for 10 days.
We will need him right to make a push in September.
Yup. Not what I'd wish for, but I think Chapman to DL for 10 days is the best thing that could happen to him right now.

You're suggesting that the Yanks DL Chapman, when you have no idea if he's even injured. Awesome!
Quote:
I can never understand the guys on this board who wants to get rid of him for Torres. That was one hell of a play and he showed off his bazooka arm
Most want Castro gone for Torres, but yes agreed
Getting rid of Castro is mind blowingly stupid. To good of a bat and a pretty good clutch batter.
Agree completely. So give him a break now - the bullpen is deep. We will need him in September and October.
I agree.
But all the sudden guys like Luis Cessa are throwing a 100. 103 isn't as scary. But I definitely have FULL faith what you said is correct and next season he will rebound very nicely.
Funny thing about Chapman, the cubs obviously rode him. In the WS he threw a million sliders and ground threw it since his FB command was lost and also his delivery isn't as SMOOTH as it WAS.
He's minor tweaks mentally and physically. Not worried long term (5 year deal) he will be okay.

and may have hurt himself on that last pitch.

"DL"
And yes, I know what i'm talking about.
I said it during the postseason last year - Maddon knew Chapman wasn't coming back so he didn't give a shit whether he wrecked him or not.
I don't think he's totally shot but I do think there's some carryover from the way he was used last October.
I agree. Maddon knew he wasn't coming back and went for all the marbles riding roughshod over everyone.
Split the close between Betances and Robertson.
Or as Joe would do -
Kahnle 7th
Robertson 8th
Betances 9th
His confidence and mind are shot. Maybe his body too.
Maybe personal life who knows.
Maybe wise to shut him down a month or more and see how he's doing. It wouldn't be the worst thing if we save him for next season and protect our investment with this crazy BP depth.
But If Chappy wants to be the left specialist (never ever gonna happen this year, Cashman will not allow it) he would actually fit that role perfectly for us. Then we get option shreeve or something

Huh? I was making fun of myself. Why would I crawl out of the woodwork when we came within one? You think I'm rooting or expecting wins or something? Better check the thread before the game started. You thugs are something else though. Never disappoint.
Stuck in the middle with you!
Maybe when Castro and Bird are ready we can retire the Headley Frazier fiasco. Torreyes or Castro can play 2nd or 3rd.
Gardners ice cold.
Why isn't Severino opening against the Bosox instead of pitching against the Mets

Frazier is starting at 3B from here on out unless he just craters out. His D is excellent and he will hit a bit. The reason Sevi is starting Thursday is because they have no other option besides calling a guy up from the minors. Sabathia can't come off the DL till the weekend and he's pitching Saturday.

I know Baghdad, it's just a bit of friendly banter.
Thugs? How dare you sir!
Absolutely. Also Gary Sanchez is really starting to hit and Judge's ABs are getting noticeably better. But at this time last year, if someone told you Aaron Hicks would be counted on as the offensive savior, you'd assume that person was crazy or that NYY was a last place team.
I'm a believer!
I was at the game Sunday night and watched him stretch out, going away, to snag a ball out of the air that from perspective, was impossible to catch. He made two incredible catches that night. And don't forget, when he threw a ball into the catcher from the outfield last year, his ball was clocked at 115 MPH, the fastest ball thrown ever recorded.
So we know he's a great outfielder with an incredible arm. Now add that he's a switch hitter and is starting to show fans that he can hit and flashes future power. As he matures, he is going to be (IMHO) a .300/35 HR type guy who will also swipe a few bases and stop a lot of guys from taking an extra base as everyone starts to fear his arm.
He's finally looking comfortable out there and it shows. He will start getting a lot of attention in the next couple years. Probably good that he's flying under the radar while everyone is fixated on Judge and Sanchez.
