Discussion - This years suprise cut

I don't see any real surprise candidates out there. The only one I could see as a real surprise but still very unlikely would be Vereen.

Harris, but financially it makes more sense to cut him next year.

a UDFA lineman like Wheeler on the practice squad. Fluker may not be very good, but he does have experience and more than likely Wheeler would not be any good this year either.

Both Smith and Johnson and the Giants go with Webb as second QB. That wouldn't just be a surprise. It would be a shocker.

I wouldn't be one bit shocked if this happens, in fact, I expect it. I've been saying it for a while.

Tye, Lewis, & Berhe would all be surprises, so to speak...

John Jerry would be a big surprise

Biggest surprise would be Herzlich just because he has never before been picked as an absolute lock to make the roster by so many people.

I wouldn't be one bit shocked if this happens, in fact, I expect it. I've been saying it for a while.

I haven't expected it, just hoped it.....I take Geno over Smith, but I have no confidence in him to lead us to a couple victories if Eli were to miss a couple games....So that's why I would roll the dice with Webb, by giving him more playing time in preseason.....

My own personal pick is Herzlich....he gets replaced by someone who can do something else besides ST's....

Not sure any Giant is big enough salary, but Harris and Vereen, and possibly John Jerry if he doesn't show more than the guys who want his position.

- Odigizuwa
- Valentino Blake
- JT Thomas
I think Roger Lewis is on the fence and could be pushed out due to his personal stuff a month ago

Before training camp I would have said Bromley, but he is playing like a stud so far so I think he's safe.

Vereen. Also if another RB comes in via trade. Perkins can take Vereens spot and new RB as work horse.

big super bowl game but he is off injured and has some ball security issues . He is two years past that big game he is
a smart heady player though .

He had himself half way out the door, during the winter, and I see the Giants slamming it shut during the final cuts.

i mentioned it to a buddy the other day. Vereen missed a lot of time last year and i havent heard a peep about him all camp.

Vereens skill as a receiver are excellent but he doesnt offer veery much as a runner. He was running for i believe over 4 ypc last year before he got hurt but he put the ball on the ground twice in 5 games. As i said in yesterdays post i think he may be expendeple with all of the receiving options we have coming from traditonal positios (WR,TE)

i dont want him to go, i recognize his value but it wouldnt shock me

You're both nuts. Vereen is the best rb on this team. He isn't going anywhere.

How would Perkins take vereen's spot? He's nowhere near that kind of player.

Although that probably wouldn't be much of a surprise. I also think Valentino Blake may get cut, but that's not really surprising, either.

Tye would not surprise me. Berhe would. So would cutting both potential backup QBs--that would shock me.

I really don't see how anyone slated to start on O or D gets cut at this point. Including Jerry.

I didn't know that when I cut him. I just wanted to make sure his contract didn't expire or something to that nature. Same thing just happened to NBA player Zach Randolf who is still on a 10-15 million dollar contract. I am guessing Randolph was distributing to be cool and not to make money, but who knows? (if allegations are true).

The easiest to call are like Geremy Davis last year: young guys who you figure will probably make it because they made it the year before, and they figure to improve with another year of experience. Examples this year would include Roger Lewis, Brett Jones, Tavarres King, Will Tye, Orleans Darkwa and possibly Jerrel Adams. In the same category - but much less likely to be cut after surprisingly decent rookie seasons - are Andrew Adams and Romeo Okwara.

Then there are veterans with substantial salaries who may be wearing down physically. Cutting J.T.Thomas would be no surprise at all, but Shane Vereen and Dwayne Harris need to show that they are still the players NYG signed in 2015. I think they are both safe - which is why they would qualify as surprise cuts.

The only draft choice that seems to be in any jeopardy at all is Adam Bisnowaty. If Chad Wheeler outplays him, Bisnowaty might be the one that hits the waiver wire and - if he clears - lands on the practice squad. Reese isn't terribly sentimental about sixth-round picks.

The way I see it, marginal vets on qualifying contracts, like Mark Herzlich and Devin Taylor, can't really be considered "surprise" cuts. They are cheap because the whole League considers them expendable.

he was one of the Giants better weapons on offense last year, on unit which appears to be ascending now, potentially leaving him at #4. I'd call it a potential surprise cut as the OP asked, but perhaps not a shocker.

Surprise cuts, speaking of Blake, Tye, Lacosse, Lewis, Powe, or JT Thomas.

All of those guys are already on the bubble. Fluker would be a surprise and a cut of both Geno and Josh Johnson would be a surprise, as would Vereen. Darkwa maybe a little bit, but he would be a surprise to me as well. Anybody drafted in this year's class, like say Avery Moss, that would be a surprise.

I think Berhe could be cut, not really sure if that would be a surprise or not. I think with Adams and Pinkins, you have your backups at safety and Mac really may not want 5 safeties.

Another surprise cut would he Jay Bromley. I could see a scenario where that happens, and people probably would say, no way, and I certainly don't expect it, but that's why it would be a surprise. If Spags says I have enough and Tomlinson is the starter, they may be fine with Thomas as the primary backup at both tackle positions and Corbin Bryant.

OL - If it were me...everybody but Pugh, Richburg, Wheeler and Bisnowaty. But unfortunately Flowers, Jerry, Hart, and Jones get a 2017 free NYG jersey to wear as well.

DL - everybody but Vernon, JPP, Snacks, Bromley, Moss & Tomlinson
LB - everybody but Kennard, Goodson, Casillas and Robinson
CB - everybody but Jenkins, DRC, Apple and Hunter
S - everybody but Collins and D Thompson

...and I hope it's not a surprise.

Tye makes it as third TE, Smith at FB, LaCosse cut as well.
