Greg Bird will play five innings at first base for Triple-A Scranton starting Wednesday.
That would be great news but he wasn't hitting well when he was up. Would he need more time? Next week does seem pretty optimistic. Link - ( New Window )
if that foot really was the problem, then he should be fine. He was hitting before the shoulder in 2015 and hitting in ST before the foot. I think he can just flat out hit.
I'd be surprised if it was before 10 days that he gets called up. Don't want a pulled oblique or something...
if Bird can outplay Garrett Cooper, who has proven (so far) that he's a major league talent, both with a glove and with his bat. I think trading for Cooper in an under the radar move could end up being one of the best moves Cash made all year.
Regardless, Bird will have to outplay Cooper. If Bird starts out cold and isn't hitting for shit, they'll stick Cooper in the lineup. Cooper could actually play DH the way he's been hitting if he doesn't beat out Bird

I hadn't realized he was injured in the final game of the Spring after fouling a ball off his foot/ankle. Prior to that his injury ankle ND play to start the season were a mystery. I now have more confidence in him and the staff. The reports from the last week or so have been positive. I am half expecting him to be a significant contributor down the stretch and re-establish himself as the 1b of the immediate future.
if he can stabilize offensive production at the position (maybe .250/.350 and a little bit of pop) that'd be a lot more than we've gotten. Headley was hot for awhile but has cooled off in August (.239 average). Cooper may be a useful piece or he may be a flash in the pan, if healthy Bird should have more staying power.
is recovering from a rotator cuff injury and pitching light reps at GCL. Josh Norris says he's up to 95 with his FB, which was already a weapon because of his spin rate. Link - ( New Window )
2016 IFA signee Luis Medina, pitching in the Appy League, threw 5 no-hit innings, 2 BBs & 7 Ks, said to be sitting 96-100. Between him and Jorge Guzman they have a couple of huge arms in short season.

I usually think this way also, but the way Hicks returned has me thinking it could happen.

He hasn't hit in a long time and it usually takes a while to regain the timing and mechanics

Short time up, but I have been impressed, also.
