Looking for a ping pong table and don't want to spend $500.
I see one on Amazon for $275 with really good reviews and what looks like the exact same one on jet.com for significantly less ($149). Both with free shipping.
the product reviews on Amazon are all good, the reviews on jet.com seem bad.
What am I missing? Does jet.com get their products from somewhere else?
if you havent been following the online price wars, youve been missing out.
Amazon and Walmart are going toe to toe on prices (Walmart now offering real discounts to ship to their stores - like $50 off a TV) and Jet is in lock step with the two.
Jet is good, not great, but that table and price is legit, get it and enjoy!
I'd still like to know how the reviews differ so much between the two, 17 verified purchase reviews on Amazon and 100% give 4 or 5 stars and 7 reviews on jet 4 of them give 1 star.

Weird for same product.
I appreciate the feedback, I ordered it from Jet.
Online reviews are generally negative everywhere. The people who take the time to give reviews are usually the ones with complaints.
Except... a few websites like Amazon, Yelp, and Im sure others, have been able to break that model. Their users give good and bad reviews. I tend to trust Amazon reviews. If there is a disparity, I try to looks into the histories of the top reviewers. But generally Amazon's star system does right by me. Caveats being (1) you have to look at dates, as manufacturing practices change, and there needs to be a critical mass of reviews.
Jet is owned by Walmart, who has the table for $250 after shipping

That's more true of stores/services than it is of products. In fact, because companies tend to think of reviews as marketing, there are a lot of positive reviews that are the result of promotions or companies outright paying people to pump their product.
Just check out fakespot.com the next time you're wondering about Amazon reviews.
after the install they said they'd give me a $15 Amazon gift card if I left a positive review (don't lie, if you're happy with our service give us a review).
I did and then they said I could get $100 more to Amazon (to $50 gift cards) if I left review on yelp and google.
So I did.
They wound up sending me one of the $50 gift cards (for yelp), but either way, it cost me nothing, I copied and pasted the same review I wrote on their website.
I was pissed they didn't give me the other $50, but I bet a lot of companies do this.

which seems to be it's usual price, so this is a good deal.
Don't forget to use the coupon code for 15% off.
damn it. I missed the 15%, but I did have an Amex offer of a $25 statement credit if I spent $100 on jet.com so I did get an additional $25 off the price shown (credited to my Amex).

Jet has great customer service - if you called them, I'd bet they'd adjust your purchase accordingly. Doesn't hurt to try.
Why order from Jet when you can pick it up at Walmart for the same price and you can return it, if need by, a lot easier than to Jet. Walmart - ( New Window )
So I wouldn't worry about the company/service itself.
As for the specific product, they offer free returns and all of the bad reviews seem to be from last Christmas where the reviewer wrote almost immediately about the bad quality. The price difference seems worth it since you could return, maybe there was a defective batch around that time?
why not buy a good used one at an estate sale? It might take a month or two of looking in your area to find one you like. They are usually very inexpensive and want to get rid of them. estatesales - ( New Window )

Because of that trend, I only look at verified purchases on Amazon and I sort to see the most recent on top.
First, you should note that Amazon itself is not selling the table: its third party sellers thru the Amazon site. You need to check out the individual sellers yourself to decide how much you trust them to back their sale.
Second: the negative reviews on Jet seem to be mostly about damage that occurred during shipping. So consider that before buying.

they'll deliver it for free and if I need to return it I schedule a pick up and they come get it for free.
