NFT: Terror Attack in Barcelona

ImThatGuy : 8/17/2017 12:31 pm
Details unfolding but appears to be a car ramming. And possible gunmen have taken over a restaurant nearby. Some news outlets indicating it's a kosher restaurant but details early are not always accurate
Some recent reports

All these car rammings seem to be co-aligning with Driverless cars

Odd coincidence.

Prayers for Barcelona victims though.

Sad.
Whoa

Was it at Maccabee? I was just there in February. Didnt see anything yet about the exact location. But Maccabee is right in the Ramblas (the "Times Sq" tourist area).
Dead count up to 13 now.

were in that plaza (a popular tourist area, I'm hearing) yesterday. They flew out this morning back to NY.

Cowardly, pathetic people who do these things.

to Barcelona last summer, a friend of mines parents were asking me a couple weeks ago whether or not it was a safe place for them to visit after hearing a couple bad things. I told them my experience was awesome and never felt unsafe and absolutely loved it. I'm sure they won't be taking my advice again any time soon.
General Pershing would make short work of them.

Very little security on the Ramblas
NoPeanutz : 8/17/2017 4:30 pm : link
but when I was at MWC there in March (which I've heard draws 100k ppl), security was tighter than any tradeshow I'd ever been to in the U.S.
Everyone needed a passport to enter every day, electronic ID badges, gendarmes with K9s very visible around the show, constantly walking the floor.

Finished up our Spain trip there last Summer and I would have told anybody who asked me the same thing you told those folks.

We have a Portugal trip scheduled in about 5 weeks, too.

Eric: Terrorism is so politicized that the whole subject is problematic for a site that forbids political discussion. I understand the urge to get the news out when there's an attack , but you might want a thread category like "News Alert" where comments are blocked.

In this case, the President of the United States responded to a horrifying attack on an ally by repeating a long-debunked, insulting, right-wing myth about the Moro insurgency in the Philippines a hundred years ago. Any discussion of today's event will inevitably touch on the President's reaction - not as a point of political contention, but because he's, you know, the President, and he speaks for us in addressing the world.
Am I missing somewhat?

What the hell does General Pershing have to do with this attack?

Security is only present at monuments and such. Las Ramblas is just a busy main avenue. He told me back then that Spanish security is and has been for a while at DEFCON 5, the highest state of alert. What a bunch of cowards. RIP and sympathy to those affected.

Eric would prefer we not go there. Just check the President's recent tweets.

A well know politician and, world renowned student of history, recently referenced a story of Pershing using bullets dipped in pork fat prior to executing 50 Islamic terrorists, leading to 35 years of peace. Presumably suggesting that we should use any means necessary to win the war on terror.

Yes. He really said that.
