NGT: Aaron Donald holdout could last into regular season

Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald could carry his holdout into the 2017-18 regular season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. The two sides reportedly remain far apart on what it would take to get a deal done, which may mean that come Week 1, Donald would not be suiting up for Los Angeles.

but what about OTA's?

I'm guessing he plays, the fines are too big.
and Beckham is the problem

I understand Donald's stance but I would let him sit out
guys

it doesn't matter what happens now!

Beckham did this!!!

The Rams are a joke

They paid their mediocre WR a kings ransom, yet won't pay one of the best players in the game. Well done, dipshits.
WTF?
mrvax : 8/17/2017 3:05 pm : link
I thought he was drafted in round #1 with Beckham. Doesn't his team have a contract already this year and could re-sign him for 2018 also if the Rams choose?
Any team that pays a guy

over $42 Million for 410 yards receiving per year and only 12 receiving TDs in 4 years is destined to be a complete clownshow. I hope the team and its pig owner suffer from another shit season.
DONALD!!!!

He was. They do. They can. Still, Donald is getting like $1.8 million this year or something and this is the first time that they could negotiate a long term deal. Donald is arguably the best interior lineman in the NFL. He is severely underpaid.

As always, I will never hold it against a player trying to make money unless it is like a Donald Penn situation. The NFL is the only place where one side can just end a contract at any moment. Therefore, Donald has the right to do this. I don't agree with the way he is going about it but that os his right. There are consequences for it that I am sure he is aware of. On the flip side. If he gets hurt he is losing an insane amount of money. There is a risk-reward situation for each decision that is made. The risk is known as well as the reward. This is the path he wants to take. So be it.
They'll work out a contract as the season nears, they'll rescind

all fines and, by escaping camp, will enter the season healthy..

Jeez, completely missed that contract. Talk about absurd.
How, exactly, is Beckham relevant here?

No one ever said skipping OTAs is as bad as holding out into the regular season.

Both of which have zero to do with in game childish sideline behavior.

The counter obsession by those who perceive excessive scrutiny toward OBJ is continually perplexing.
get that money
RasputinPrime : 8/17/2017 4:33 pm : link
NFL athletes signing contracts that require them to trade their bodies and minds for money should take every step to get what they are worth.

Donald is a beast.

You have to. He's got 2 years to go in his deal. Yeah he's outplayed it but so have OBJ and Martin. I guess he's willing to give up
What he feels is peanuts. Problem is this reminds me of Osi. Feels like he will sign his new deal and hold out when someone else
Gets more as inevitably they will.

NFL PA are the bad guys here. Last contract was negotiated for the vets w a big FU for the players coming in. And as a salve for teams who picked duds like Bradford and even worse Jamarcus Russel for millions.

Donald had two years left. So Mack OBJ and Martin all
Whom are Just as good. The solution is guy's like them going to the PA And NFL to renegotiate. Yeah. That's hard as fuck. But thats the shit sandwich that it is. First round picks that flop aren't complaining. That year was an anomaly. Insane round 1. All this guys deserve a lot more than they are getting.
After that CTE study. I can't blame him
Rflairr : 8/17/2017 5:52 pm : link
Holdout. Get your money. Especially when you're as good as he is.
The PA
mrvax : 8/17/2017 6:00 pm : link
really screwed the pooch with their latest deal. By a player's completion of 3 years, you know what you're getting. They should be free agents after 3 qualified years of playing.

AND-
My 80% cash against the cap rule.
This rule change would allow a team to only count 80% of a player's new contract towards the cap if that player was originally drafted or signed (UDFA) by that team.

It would help teams & fans keep the player they originally groomed and the player doesn't lose a dime. Teams that draft well would be rewarded most.

This change would of course have to be passed by the NFL and the players union.
Beckham's notoriety is saving the Giants from this kind of problem
TJ : 8/17/2017 6:45 pm : link
Beckham is making a lot of money in endorsements. $29m + from Nike. Probably much more than Aaron Donald. Maybe easier to manage on a rookie deal when you get that much outside cash.

But Aaron Donald's opening day status has a direct bearing on Snacks being the best player in the
League.
I may have used Donald's holdout as a means to defend Beckham
djm : 8/18/2017 9:25 am : link
but honestly I wouldn't blame Beckham, Donald or anyone else for holding out. I'd rather they don't but I can't rip a player for doing what is necessary to get paid.

Snacks is better IMO. Donald is an all pro too. So it's. Or there's a huge gulf. But IMO he needs Brockers next to him. Or someone like him to be able to avoid double teams. Snacks doesn't. It's why they let Hankins go. When u got a monster NT eating double teams all the time the guys next to him need to step up.

And for all the Donald love here he's no JJ Watt when he's healthy. Just again my opinion.
