Tom Coughlin's first major crisis has arrived in Jacksonville in the form of Blake Bortles. To say he has had a bad camp and preseason would be an understatement. It started with the 5 INT practice, then Jaylen Ramsey liking a column detailing potential replacements for Bortles, then the video of his WR cursing when a ball was overthrown to him, then last night's putrid performance. Jacksonville, for the first time in a LONG TIME, actually have some aspirations this year. Now, they are looking at potentially Chad Henne being the starter. Henne is the definition of a backup QB. Jacksonville has no shot to go anywhere this year with him leading the way. This leads to the question...what do you do. Do you go with Bortles anyway with the understanding that if he turns it around, then great you have a good young QB, and if not and they have a bad year, you get a high pick and take a QB. Or...do you reach out to Colin Kaepernick? I'm not trying to be controversial, or start a discussion on his protest. But, isn't he a better option for this year then Chad freaking Henne.
He still sucks and is a lesser version of Michael Vick but that's proably better than Borttles. The reality is they would be better off tanking and getting a top 3 pick for next years QB draft class.
To say otherwise is laughably incorrect.
And the mention of Kaepernick every time a team has QB issues is approaching Jonas Seawright cult proportions.
As for the WR, I think it says more about him than Bortles. I would release the WR.
Worse case: Jags can tank the year and get a guy in April from the QB bonanza.
Between adding Fournette and Robinson it is clear they are moving to a ball control, run the football type of team. No one on the FA market really fits this bill better than Henne does. Trade is possible, but I don't see a building team giving up draft picks.
Which.. isn't saying much. But I think JAX has a better chance of winning games with Henne right now than they do with Bortles. Bortles is really bad. The Brandon Myers of QB's with much higher expectations.
He's a starter in waiting behind a franchise QB.
As much stick as Kaepernick gets for the off the field stuff, he's better than Bortles and with good coaching is a competent starting QB
Whats the issue?
The question is, will they bump Henne up to #1, go with Bortles first, or see if there's anyone out there to add to the roster who might be a capable replacement in the future.
He's one of the best guests on PMT so I'm holding out all hope that he rights the ship and holds onto the starting reigns.
He's not good and don't let his garbage time production fool you.
Have the people suggesting teams sign Kapernicks watched any of his play in the last two years? He isn't very good.

He really didn't, though - that's where people got fooled. They saw the stats and thought he took a big step forward but a very large chunk of it came in complete garbage time.
Kaep definitely regressed, but SF was an absolute mess his last 2 seasons there, and even then, his season under Chip Kelly wasn't that bad. 16 TD's, only 4 INT's and 60% completion.
Bortles had a few decent seasons in Jac, but as some have noted, almost all of his numbers came when Jax was way behind. I think he is beyond reclamation at this point, at least in Jax. TC has to do something, and I think he knows it.
Most telling of his 2015 stats were how he performed in the 4th quarter with the game still on the line. With the Jaguars still within 7 points, Blake Bortles completed 49% of his passes, for just 5.7 yards per pass play, 4 TDs/3 INT and a QB rating of just 68.
When the game was out of hand and the Jaguars were behind by more than 7 points, that's where he shined. Bortles completed 62% of his passes, for a robust 8.6 yards per pass play, 10 TDs/4 INT and a QB rating of over 103.6
Jaguars might be better off cutting Bortles for just $3 million cap hit for this season but if he plays and gets injured, his $19 million option would be guaranteed.
1. Vick did time, apologized and was contrite about his misbehavior. Kaep is not contrite. He will most likely continue to do and say things that piss off a lot of paying customers.
2. The majority of Philly fans welcomed Vick because A. They were desperate (they knew McNabb's days were numbered and he wasn't super popular anyway) and B. He did his time, apologized, etc. Kaep will not be accepted by a large % of any fanbase because he's going to continue acting in a way that a lot of people think is ignorant, offensive, misguided and inappropriate.
Team owners are running businesses. They have no responsibility to hire someone who is going to piss off a lot of their customers and adversely affect their bottom line or company goals.
Yeah, but the last time they drafted a QB with a top three pick they got... Blake Bortles!
Yeah, but a lot of Americans are more offended by a guy making controversial statements about his country than they are by a guy who tortures dogs.
You could be creating a division among players on their beliefs.
Kap deserves what he gets, he committed career suicide with his little spectacle and he had multiple opportunities to handle it differently.
Colin would not be a thought for Jax. It is a military town with a large veteran population. If you go to the west/south of downtown, you will find yourself surrounded by confederate sympathizers. Heck, in Baker county, there is still a mural in the court house depicting white hooded riders on horseback celebrating the KKK. My advise to Colin is to not even breakdown on the side of the road as he might end up floating in a gator hole.
