Every year you get to the preseason games and guys jump out. Happens organically. Sometimes they turn into Cruz sometimes Corey Washington. It's only been 1 game but the guy who jumped out for me was Jerome Lane, who I hadn't given a 2nd thought.
Lots of separation, built like a truck and a bull after the catch. Caught smoothly, away from his body. Came back for the ball. Doing all the little things good football players do. The 3rd string CBs on the Steelers wanted nothing to do with him.
The #6 WR is primarily about special teams. At the Combine Lane measured 6'2" 226 lbs. Average speed (4.6) but excellent quickness (6.87 3-Cone, 4.12 ss). And that's what translates to the field: big, strong and quick. Like Shane Smith, his background as an ex-LB gives him immediate special teams value.
I think Harris/King/Lewis are 4/5/6, but I have a feeling Lane is going to steal one of their spots if he keeps it up.
Agreed. I don't see King as a lock. Certainly not Lewis. Whether Lane can make the roster is of course an entirely different discussion.
speed. he's got issues but our team speed is not good. whoever can run gets an extra look.
I'm already growing tired of Lewis' mental mistakes and concentration issues.
It would be great if a diamond in the rough could be found....we know the limitations of Lewis and King.....hopefully someone outshines them....
I agree. Cut him now. I hope we can see more of KING.

Devin Thomas was never a good WR but his ST value saw that he make the team.
That's why I'd keep him. And then I'll be banging my head against the wall if and when he drops a crucial pass.
Unless Lane is a special teams star, or our WRs get decimated by injuries, he has no chance for a roster spot, but is a prime PS candidate, and this is a good thing.
