Will the Cowboys be watching Giants QB's carefully?

gidiefor : Mod : 8/20/2017 11:04 am
There is growing discontent with the Cowboys' backup QB - if Dak goes down it will be a long season for the Cowboys - while the Giants have two backups battling it out.

What say you if the Giants knock Dak silly and let our released back up take over? Who would you rather face on the Cowboys Josh Johnson or Geno Smith at QB?

IMHO if either Eli or Dak went down, the Giants or Cowboys would

take Kaepernick in a heartbeat over Geno or Josh and then keep Kaepernick in the locker room until after the playing of the National Anthem.
They can have Johnson.

He's awful.

They can if they want - Josh Johnson isn't any better than Kellen Moore. In fact, he's probably worse.
I'd trade them Geno or Johnson for Moore in a hearbeat

#2s right now in Smith/Johnson.
Cooper Rush
fanatic II : 8/20/2017 12:16 pm : link
has thrown a monkey wrench into Moore being the backup.

Rush is having a very good preseason and has outplayed Moore in all three games.

Now Dallas has to make a decision, keep Moore and expose Rush to waivers(Matt Moore situation again), or go with an unknown as backup.

If I were making the decision it would be Rush as backup and expose Moore to waivers.

CK has regressed as a QB. Big time. He's also about as bad a fit and as opposite from Eli as you could get. He's also a bad fit for most offenses beucsuse he's not a good QB above the ears.

He's so much better than Geno or Johnson. Giants and their fans need to get over it and just sign him. There's practically a guy on every team doing it now.
Kap had a better QB rating than Eli last season

...let alone Johnson or Eli. Johnson is not good at all.

There are much worse people currently playing in the league.

Players don't exist in a vacuum. Kaepernick would be a bad fit for the offense we run.

I really think they will keep who is already here. Although it maybe Rush. I hope they have learned their lessons that bringing in scrubs is not going to make you a contender. I have been a fan of Moore this entire time, but the fact is he DOES have a weak arm. He is the nicest kid in the world, he has been on a roster WAY longer than he probably should have at this point. Made some good money off doing nothing really. Time for him to go.

So is Johnson and Geno just isn't good. Pretty sure Kap would look ok with our weapons...plus he's good at running for his life when Flowers does the óle

Holy....what's this? A Cowboys fan actually shows up with some solid football talk and not to just run their mouth about how awesome and perfect EVERYTHING thing is in Dallas Cowboys land? Wow, how refreshing.

Great job nccowboysfan. It's nice to actually get some unbiased commentary for a change.

Geno is a better fit for a short passing game than Kaepernick is, IMO.

NYG aren't going to sign him anyway. They don't want to deal with the headache I'm assuming. Just like every other team.
If they signed Johnson

Cows will be closely watching our DE situation which is a position of strength compared to the Cow suspension/injury situation at DE.

Was just going to say many of the cowboys fans

Prefer Cooper Rush to Moore, but you don't hear that from the coaches/analysts..who seem to be high on Moore. Moore seems to be a Linehan favorite. I think I would take Geno Smith in a heartbeat over either, not that I'm a huge Geno fan but for a short stretch of games has had more NFL field experience than all of them.

Also, on the topic of "backup" quarterbacks, not sure if anyone caught Patrick Mahomes last night but he was fun to watch.

Smith, Johnson or Kaepernick '17, as opposed to the Kap of 4 years ago. They all stink .
Is this
Doomster : 8/20/2017 3:03 pm : link
a trick question?
Johnson is terrible
Jay on the Island : 8/20/2017 5:47 pm : link
and Geno Smith is no prize either but he is a much better QB than Kellen Moore. Moore has the weakest arm of any QB in the entire NFL. At least Geno Smith has shown flashes of solid play during his career.
Since our backup QBs are horrible...
EricJ : 8/20/2017 6:27 pm : link
then why would the Cowboys be watching OUR QBs carefully instead of looking at a dozen or more other teams?
I think the one backup they'd watch carefully

why would you take either of those guys

We'll be cutting Josh Johnson...

They are cheaper. A lot. People don't usually pay 5-10 million for a back up. And if you thin Kaep is much better than Geno put him on the Jets. They would be just as bad.

He's also regressed badly. Also Harbaugh and that old San Fran's D have created a myth that he was some great QB once. NFL teams have figured him out.
Regarding Kapernick

Kaepernick is good enough to have a job in the NFL, IMO,
81_Great_Dane : 8/21/2017 1:36 am : link
but on the Giants? Any offense built for slow-footed, cerebral, pocket passer Eli Manning is going to be a terrible fit for Kaepernick, whose strength is that he can beat you with his legs, and whose weakness is that he's not especially good at beating you with his arm. Manning is like another coach on the field. Kaepernick needs another coach on the field.

Kaepernick could learn a lot from Eli, but he won't get the chance. I have no idea what Kaepernick's preparation is like, but hardly anyone prepares like Eli. Eli has been preparing to play QB in the NFL practically since he could walk.
Coaches like Moore because he is smart,
Section331 : 8/21/2017 11:25 am : link
knows the offense, and takes care of the ball. Yes, he is significantly limited in arm strength, but with that running game, he can win you a game or two if Dak goes down for a few games. If your starting QB is down for the season, there aren't many backups who are going to keep you in playoff contention, so Moore makes a ton of sense for Dallas.
