When Webb came into the Pittsburgh game, his graphic pfofile came on the screen. The first line, in all caps, read IDEAL SIZE AND ARM STRENGTH. Thats sounds like he's worth more than a 4th TE or a FB. He threw the ball well when he set his feet, but whenever he had to move he wasn't accurate. It seemed like every play he was in the shotgun. So like alot of teams we have to keep 3 QBs this year, with Geno Smith as our backup. All reports I've read confirm what I've seen. He has a big upside, but needs alot of workThe new limits on practice limits his snaps, so the half line opportunity time should benefit him more than any player. He's a coaches son and hard worker who's embracing the challenge. I'm excited about this pick.
Imo Eli should retire a giant
I, too, think Webb will ultimate be a good QB but would like Eli to stick around a few more years.
Because he's bulky and wears #5 with a big arm he made me think more of Kerry Collins then Eli
Imo Eli should retire a giant
I realize New Orleans isn't really home for Eli anymore; he's settled in the Greater New York area. (New Jersey, the Hamptons). But it's where he grew up. He'd be hailed, second-generation Manning under center. It'd be a good football move, because he sets a great example for a team and a young QB, and a good PR move for the Saints, if they ever do it.
If Washington doesn't work things out with Cousins long term, that's the spot I could him going, as a stop gap for them, especially given how he'd have been cut by the Giants at that point and it won't likely have been all that amicable.
Eli in washington, Eil in New Orleans,
and all because of the pressure to play a fourth round pick , who , as of this writing at least, has shown little.
My impression of Webb is that he might be an anachronism.
tall, strong arm, immobile, prototype pocket passer ten years ago and maybe a problem in the 3 steps and out, and throwing on the run.
Time will tell with Webb but for now Elis is as unlikely to go to Wash. as Trump and Hillary having a sexual relationship,

Outside of Russell Wilson and Rodgers - the past decade of SB winning QB's have been those traditional pocket guys.
But seeing anachronism used 5 times or so was fun....

Webb has shown more for the Giants than Cook has for Washington.

He was a 3rd round pick - with very underrated mobility (they ran read option at times with him in college)
He's not a statue in the pocket - watch last weeks game he evaded several sacks/pressures. He's by no means Cam Newton, but he's got some mobility to him.
But Giants could draft another quarterback next year or the yer after that s the guy
Eli really has showed signs that he s nearing the end. He s always been inconsistent.
Give him a line let s see what he can do.

As they should ... strength in numbers - more young QBs the better odds
Even the almighty Patriots have used quite a bit of resources on QBs - with Brady looking like he'll play into his 50s ...

I just finished watching the JAX game. Nassib did not workout well before the draft but doesn't he have excellent feet and movement? Doesn't move like a guy who ran a 5+ second 40.
In this JAX game he really impressed with his arm talent, footwork, and overall athletic ability. He can snap out nice throws especially on the move.
I don't care if it was against backups. That doesn't matter to me. He had several big time throws that a lot of starters can't make. Throws a very tight ball while moving. Snaps it out easy with power. He had several beauties to Jones. A few others while getting hit.
He looked outstanding to me. I liked him coming out of college. Really liked what he did in this game. I'm a fan of his game. He may never get a shot to play with the NYG but I'm confident he could do the job if we need him.
If, God forbid, Eli were hurt this year

...I think we'd be in good hands.
If Eli doesn't get a long term extension and plays out the year, gets hurt for a portion and Nassib does REALLY WELL, well we have some decisions to make this off-season don't we?
Good to have solid QB's in this league. Hoping Nassib ends up being one
.
Or if Eli doesn't

get extended, but gets tagged next year. Nassib is a free agent after 2016.
He may not be fast in the 40 but he

is quick in starts and stops, similar to Romo.
Just one of many Nassib looks good threads - ( New Window )

I'm going to start this thread with a reply to a post made by RetroJint on the Postgame discussion thread. There was some silliness there about Nassib, and less focus on him than I believe was warranted. Even though vs. the Jags' twos and threes I think Nassib was one of the positives that came out of last night. Then I go to some other impressions that probably mirror a lot of what others had or have to say.

First, he would easily be the starting quarterback on the other 2 New York state teams in the league.... Second he is using the extended handoff technique that guys like Steve DeBerg used ...It allows for a better play fake by showing the second level of the defense the run-option earlier, thus holding up the depth on their coverage drop. Third, as to the assine happy feet angle, those saved him maybe 8 sacks and he made plays downfield on at least 5 occasions that I can remember.
Nassib - Could not agree more. I was impressed by him last night, first time really. On the roll outs, planned or impromptu, he delivers the ball with authority and accuracy. He steps into the throw on the move, which is not easy, and this gives the ball excellent velocity, as well as accuracy. He is nimble and maintains excellent downfield vision. How many of those scrambles was he able to find the open receiver? Often, by my count. I thought Banks' comment that he scrambles to pass rather than run was apt.
On the play w/10:43 remaining in Q4, the 27 yard completion to Harris, Nassib stepped up into the collapsing pocket, I thought 100% certain the DT would nail him from behind, he was within a foot. Nassib got the ball out SO FAST even as the DT was about to wrap him up, and the accuracy was deadly. I have no idea what the posters in the post-game thread who want him traded or complain about the handoffs or talk about happy feet are seeing. Certainly a 180 from what I see. He looked a hell of a lot better than the inconsistent, tentative Eli last night (agree with Joey's comment). And, no, this is not an opinion that Eli should be benched, traded, whatever. He simply has been very ineffective so far.
And while a nice poster, he would compliment a piece of crap in a toilet bowl if a Giant was the one that took it...
I like a guy that keeps his eyes down the field knows when to throw it out of bounds versus force it, and gets the ball into hands of his guys swiftly. Way too many backup QBs during the Eli-era have been guys that run around like chickens-with-their-heads cutoff than show poise.
Hoping Webb is different...
Gotta give Webb a year to learn the pro offense.
Eli Manning believes backup Ryan Nassib can be a starting quarterback.
"He's a hard worker, he's smart," Manning said of Nassib. "Just from watching him and how he prepares, how he makes plays in practice, his football mind and ability, there's no reason he can't be a starter." Nassib is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is unlikely to get that starting chance with the Giants. He's been the subject of trade rumors the past two offseasons. I suppose quite a few were mistaken about Nassib. I thought he had a solid 2015 pre-season.
