DirecTV Sunday Ticket deal

Kevin in CT : 8/21/2017 10:44 am
Mook will usually post a thread on this. I figured I'll get my deal going and explain what I did.

So, my bill will be $57 a month plus taxes, including HBO and Showtime for the whole year, Sunday ticket and Sunday ticket max for free, and lastly a $200 visa gift card.

All I had to do was call and set up a disconnect from their service for a week out. I received a call this morning from their loyalty team and they threw me that deal and I asked for the gift card and they looked into it and said they'd be more than happy to throw that in. Didn't even have to agree to a yearly contract.

Hope you guys have the same luck!

I got free Sunday ticket. Plus 20 off hbo and show for 12 months. I did not have to do the whole disconnect thing. She just looked at available deals and gave it to me.

She also said that if I canceled Sunday ticket right after GM he season I would get a better deal next year. Thanks for the free advice.

Its subjective and random who gets called back based on time, location and how much they would lose. If you are under contract when u do it your shit out of luck.
Don't have to call a disconnect
PaulN : 8/21/2017 12:23 pm : link
I never have. Just call up and tell them there are much better deals that you can get to start with for the first year, and that is true, ask them to help you out, point out that you get the NFL package, I get the NFL, NHL, and MLB package, so I tell them they would be losing a great long time customer, do something so I can justify not leaving DirecTV, that is all I say and very nicely too.

They gave me 70 dollars per month off for the year, plus 14 dollars off my sports pack/starz package for the year. Total is 84 dollars off per month for the year, as long as I keep them for a year and keep the starz/sport pack combo for that extra savings, that comes to 1,008 dollars in savings for the year. I always have the sports pack/starz package so I wouldn't want to drop that anyway. Everyone needs to do things as they see fit, I am only pointing out that there is another way of doing this, whatever makes you happy.
For a potential new customer
bigbluehoya : 8/21/2017 12:33 pm : link
Are there any known tactics for doing better than the advertised deals? Or for locking in the Sunday ticket for 2 years instead of 1?

I'm just worried that I do OK for the first year of the 2 year deal, but then I have no leverage going into year 2...

Any advice for a new customer?
Called earlier today and they offered up about
Jimmy Googs : 8/21/2017 3:02 pm : link
$45/month of discounts between NFL ticket and normal programming.

I told them thanks but no-thanks, lets disconnect and set up next weekend to do so.

Lets see if they call back, that's what happened last year.
For what it's worth...Its only $100 for students
froggerjoe : 8/21/2017 4:41 pm : link
My son, is a college freshman and the Sunday Ticket is offered to students at pretty hefty discount - $100 (4 payments x $25).

I used my son's college email address and qualified for the discount.

BigBlueinChicago : 8/22/2017 1:40 pm : link
Set up the disconnect on Friday. The next 3 days I was getting calls, but didn't know it was DirecTV calling since the caller ID was showing a local number.

Finally answered and they told me they could offer ST Max for free, $40 off ($30 programming, $10 autopay) for 12 months in exchange for a 1 year commitment.

Was satisfied.

I do it once a year since I don't really call for anything. The first rep was originally offering ST Max and NHL Center Ice for free and I turned it down. Might have to call back and see I can get Center Ice back on my account at no charge.
Made my call today
jimmypage : 8/23/2017 1:55 pm : link
I told them I would give them $800 for xtra package and NFL ticket (not max) for a my 12 month commitment...... Or I will cancel (contract just experts). I do this every year, with them for 18yrs or so. Took 1.5 hr on phone with 3 people and got it. Kinda annoying but worth it for 3 or 4 times I'll need to watch Giants when not on in Philly market and I'm actually home.

Good luck everyone!
I cancelled monday evening, they were telling me I still had 16 months
GMenLTS : 8/23/2017 2:00 pm : link
worth left on my commitment, but I haven't had a 2 year contract for over 5 years.

I'm still waiting for a phone call but it hasn't arrived yet.

Really hope I don't have to call back myself

Did you get transferred to retention or did you get the deal with the service rep.
There is no deals from the reps, have to go to Customer Loyalty
Jimmy Googs : 8/23/2017 6:46 pm : link
The deal from last year (programming discounts, free Ticket max, movie channels free for a few months and $200 gift card) is not available in whole, but you can work out some of the pieces above if you try hard.

I got continued programming discounts, and discount off Ticket but not free.

The other stuff is hit or miss.

Overall, they are being tougher without question.

They did not. That left me wondering I was just getting phone spammed. But then I noticed it was the same number each time and just called it back to see if maybe it could've been a relative or friend. When the recording said DirecTV, that's when I knew they were calling about the disconnect I put in since it was a non-toll free number that called me last year.

Do you have the phone number they called you from? I have not received any call, I might try calling to the same number they called you from and tell them I have a bunch of lost calls.
same here my disconnect ended up going through

The number that called me was 847-282-4929. It's a suburban Chicago number.

Last year, the call came from a 615 Nashville, Tenn number. So it looks like they have centers set up all over and the retention is not located all in one place.
i am on hold on the main number

OliverG84 : 8/30/2017 11:25 am : link
First guy I got could only offer me $55 off nothing else, I told him I have to take a call & to call me back in 15 minutes.

I called the # back & got a lady & she offered me $55 off, & I asked about the gift card & Sunday Ticket & after some hesitation and sweet talk, she gave me $55 for the first 6 months, then addition $40 the following 6 months, free sunday ticket max & gift card. All set for the season!

My Story
BubbaMojo : 9/1/2017 1:48 pm : link
I basically tried the same tactic that Mook posted last year.

First, I called up and told them the only reason I'm with DirecTV is because of the Sunday Ticket, and if I can't afford it, then there is no reason to stay and I might as well switch to my local cable company, who is offering me a great deal to switch. They put me on hold, came back and offered something like $30 off a month for six months and $20 off per month for Sunday Ticket Max. I said no thanks and to set up disconnect service for one week out.

Last year, I received an e-mail saying to call them to give them a chance to retain me as a customer. This year, I had disconnect set up for September 1st, but here it was August 31st and I hadn't heard anything.

So I decided to call them back and see if there was a better deal they could offer before I went through with the disconnect (I never was going to go through with it). The guy came back and offered me $20 off per month for six months and NO discount on Sunday Ticket! Now, every time I call in I make sure to be polite and respectful, which I have found to be better in getting good discounts. This time, I was quite a bit more combative asking how my deal could have gotten worse from the last time. Went round and round, he basically said he can't do anything better. I told him to keep the disconnect service on and that I will call back later.

At this point, I'm panicking thinking the game is over and they are just becoming more and more strict on who they give out freebies to. I'm prepared to call back one more time and take whatever deal they gave me.

Literally, 10-15 minutes later, my brother came over to me and said he just missed a call from DirecTV about seeing if they could keep my brother on as a customer (who went through the same process I did, but accepted a pretty good deal and canceled his disconnect date). He explained to them that he has already accepted a deal to stay, and hung up. This was not the same DirecTV customer service number, rather a number from the San Antonio area.

I thought, screw it, give me the number and i'll call and pretend I had missed a call from them. So I dial, half expecting to have to explain how I got their number after they pull up my account. But instead the gentleman goes straight into, "thanks for calling me back, etc."

I explain to him my displeasure as to how I have a family member, who has had service for two years, being offeredd a much better deal than me, a customer for 10+ years. He told me to hold and he'll see what he can do.

He came back with: $70 off per month for 12 months, and an additional $60 off for the first month. So, total savings for the next 12 months would be $900! He couldn't "give" me Sunday Ticket Max for free, but the discounts obviously make up for it, then some. He said he'd never seen such a large retention offer before (could be BS).

Just wanted to share my experience to hopefully help others!

something I have learned over the last years is never give up, if it is not working tell them you are bussy and you will call later, call again and again until it Works. good news it worked for you.
I have called a couple times now and I am not qualifying
Jimmy Googs : 9/2/2017 10:10 am : link
for 100% free ST or gift card. The loyalty dept has honestly told me that they cannot give it to me this year. They have provided a fair amount of discounts...about $55/month of programming and $17/month off NFL Ticket. But thats as far as i am getting other than some free movie channels which I don't want.

The last time I called the guy said I should cancel NFL Ticket and then call back next Sunday and they might just offer it free then. But not sure I want to go that far with this...
