Mook will usually post a thread on this. I figured I'll get my deal going and explain what I did.
So, my bill will be $57 a month plus taxes, including HBO and Showtime for the whole year, Sunday ticket and Sunday ticket max for free, and lastly a $200 visa gift card.
All I had to do was call and set up a disconnect from their service for a week out. I received a call this morning from their loyalty team and they threw me that deal and I asked for the gift card and they looked into it and said they'd be more than happy to throw that in. Didn't even have to agree to a yearly contract.
Hope you guys have the same luck!
She also said that if I canceled Sunday ticket right after GM he season I would get a better deal next year. Thanks for the free advice.
Its subjective and random who gets called back based on time, location and how much they would lose. If you are under contract when u do it your shit out of luck.
They gave me 70 dollars per month off for the year, plus 14 dollars off my sports pack/starz package for the year. Total is 84 dollars off per month for the year, as long as I keep them for a year and keep the starz/sport pack combo for that extra savings, that comes to 1,008 dollars in savings for the year. I always have the sports pack/starz package so I wouldn't want to drop that anyway. Everyone needs to do things as they see fit, I am only pointing out that there is another way of doing this, whatever makes you happy.
I'm just worried that I do OK for the first year of the 2 year deal, but then I have no leverage going into year 2...
Any advice for a new customer?
I told them thanks but no-thanks, lets disconnect and set up next weekend to do so.
Lets see if they call back, that's what happened last year.
I used my son's college email address and qualified for the discount.
NFL SUNDAY TICKET U - ( New Window )
Finally answered and they told me they could offer ST Max for free, $40 off ($30 programming, $10 autopay) for 12 months in exchange for a 1 year commitment.
Was satisfied.
I do it once a year since I don't really call for anything. The first rep was originally offering ST Max and NHL Center Ice for free and I turned it down. Might have to call back and see I can get Center Ice back on my account at no charge.
Good luck everyone!
I'm still waiting for a phone call but it hasn't arrived yet.
Really hope I don't have to call back myself

Did you get transferred to retention or did you get the deal with the service rep.
I got continued programming discounts, and discount off Ticket but not free.
The other stuff is hit or miss.
Overall, they are being tougher without question.

Did they leave a voice mail on the calls you did not answer?
They did not. That left me wondering I was just getting phone spammed. But then I noticed it was the same number each time and just called it back to see if maybe it could've been a relative or friend. When the recording said DirecTV, that's when I knew they were calling about the disconnect I put in since it was a non-toll free number that called me last year.

Do you have the phone number they called you from? I have not received any call, I might try calling to the same number they called you from and tell them I have a bunch of lost calls.

The number that called me was 847-282-4929. It's a suburban Chicago number.
Last year, the call came from a 615 Nashville, Tenn number. So it looks like they have centers set up all over and the retention is not located all in one place.
I will call today later abd let you know what I got!
Did yoy read the thread?
i asked about the gift card and she was like..oh you know about that (so ask for it). so here were my 2 options
we have 2 TVs (1 hd dvr, 1hd)
choice plan
option 1:

year 2 72.29 (50 off)
this comes with sunday ticket max, and 12 month committment
or option 2:
year 1: 64.28 (auto bill pay enabled)
year 2: 106.28
+ 200 dollar gift card, Sunday Ticket Max, and 12 month committment
after i told her option 2, she was like let me check for some more discounts...she added movie channels for 3 months, anopther 10 off... 54.28 year 1 / 96.28 2nd year
hopefully can get same deal next year
I called the # back & got a lady & she offered me $55 off, & I asked about the gift card & Sunday Ticket & after some hesitation and sweet talk, she gave me $55 for the first 6 months, then addition $40 the following 6 months, free sunday ticket max & gift card. All set for the season!

It worked for me!!!! I called the number, told them I received a bunch of calls from that number, I received 56 USD in discounts, 200 USD VISA Giftcard and free NFL Sunday Ticket! thanks all for your help my friend!!!
First, I called up and told them the only reason I'm with DirecTV is because of the Sunday Ticket, and if I can't afford it, then there is no reason to stay and I might as well switch to my local cable company, who is offering me a great deal to switch. They put me on hold, came back and offered something like $30 off a month for six months and $20 off per month for Sunday Ticket Max. I said no thanks and to set up disconnect service for one week out.
Last year, I received an e-mail saying to call them to give them a chance to retain me as a customer. This year, I had disconnect set up for September 1st, but here it was August 31st and I hadn't heard anything.
So I decided to call them back and see if there was a better deal they could offer before I went through with the disconnect (I never was going to go through with it). The guy came back and offered me $20 off per month for six months and NO discount on Sunday Ticket! Now, every time I call in I make sure to be polite and respectful, which I have found to be better in getting good discounts. This time, I was quite a bit more combative asking how my deal could have gotten worse from the last time. Went round and round, he basically said he can't do anything better. I told him to keep the disconnect service on and that I will call back later.
At this point, I'm panicking thinking the game is over and they are just becoming more and more strict on who they give out freebies to. I'm prepared to call back one more time and take whatever deal they gave me.
Literally, 10-15 minutes later, my brother came over to me and said he just missed a call from DirecTV about seeing if they could keep my brother on as a customer (who went through the same process I did, but accepted a pretty good deal and canceled his disconnect date). He explained to them that he has already accepted a deal to stay, and hung up. This was not the same DirecTV customer service number, rather a number from the San Antonio area.
I thought, screw it, give me the number and i'll call and pretend I had missed a call from them. So I dial, half expecting to have to explain how I got their number after they pull up my account. But instead the gentleman goes straight into, "thanks for calling me back, etc."
I explain to him my displeasure as to how I have a family member, who has had service for two years, being offeredd a much better deal than me, a customer for 10+ years. He told me to hold and he'll see what he can do.
He came back with: $70 off per month for 12 months, and an additional $60 off for the first month. So, total savings for the next 12 months would be $900! He couldn't "give" me Sunday Ticket Max for free, but the discounts obviously make up for it, then some. He said he'd never seen such a large retention offer before (could be BS).
Just wanted to share my experience to hopefully help others!

something I have learned over the last years is never give up, if it is not working tell them you are bussy and you will call later, call again and again until it Works. good news it worked for you.
The last time I called the guy said I should cancel NFL Ticket and then call back next Sunday and they might just offer it free then. But not sure I want to go that far with this...
