NFT: Slow Yankees day.. did the HR derby damage Judge??

DennyInDenville : 8/21/2017 7:27 pm
He was a FORCE leading up to that event and OWNED AND DOMINATED the derby with force.

Since then he's been simply awful.

He runs the bases well, fields RF well, has a good arm, tremendous power, good batters eye.

Those tools seem to have a high floor the next 5 years..

But he's not ever going to hit 330 again is he??

I'd sign for him to hit .275 for his career at this point.

What say you? And did the HR derby, judges chambers, or Girardi have anything to do with it??

Maybe it's just simply a rookie wall.

I sit him tomorrow.
Chapman and Judge

Those guys need 10 days in the Caribbean aka DL
I don't buy it

You have a first half like he did, every pitcher in the league goes to school on how to better attack you. You'll get everybody's best game plan.

Combine that with some natural regression, a bit of a rookie wall, and that every player goes through slumps, and you've got this. I think the attention and pressure that's been placed on the kid is a bit unfair. It's got to wear on him, it's only natural.
Sorry maybe Chapman

I wouldn't DL Judge tho.

I'd sit him tomorrow maybe though.

It's not out of the realm of possibility to maybe send him down for a 3 day trip to AA or AAA.. but judges chambers kinda ruined that and all the hype. Judge to AAA would be too huge of a story not even an option right now imo

Well said.

He's really getting lots of high heat and low/away offsepeed and he's just not adjusting well.

Atleast Sanchez is getting red hot again it seems

He's also changed his stance . He's more open now making it hard for him to reach that low and outside pitch. Also , pitches he was hitting 500ft he's now fouling back.

Slumps are slumps but man can a coach please get him back to what worked in the first half?
He also has a ginormous ice wrap on his shoulder
bceagle05 : 8/21/2017 8:07 pm : link
every time I see him interviewed post-game. I wonder if a couple of those crashes into the right field wall banged him up a bit.
he's banged up
RasputinPrime : 8/21/2017 8:48 pm : link
and he's a rookie.

Next question.
It's a fair question
Natek212 : 8/21/2017 10:20 pm : link
the type of drop off since the derby is startling.

Thanks and around the same time he hit the RF wall really hard , might have been after the break but can't remember

The derby he was sooo beast it was crazy and the games leading into it
Bird 2-3 today
DennyInDenville : 8/21/2017 11:21 pm : link
Castro 2-4

Holliday is 0-10 in A-Ball Tampa

Obvious that there is something very wrong with him after his mystery ailment. This guy is a professional hitter and a HUGE part of our early success this season.
Obviously the HR Derby is the variable

I was just saying that the other day. His stance is far too open in general, let alone when your struggles are mostly low and away. He is too pull happy right now, for no good reason.
Agree ...
Manny in CA : 8/22/2017 1:37 am : link

* I think he should close his stance, it would give him a split second more to see the ball.

* Maybe the psychology of trying to rip the cover off the ball (as in the homer derby) has got into his head. He may may not be keeping his head down (instead cheating his eyesight to the "judge's chambers" in the stands.

*. Something else that always helps slumping batters is chocking up un the bat , a bit (like Didi is doing these days); lowering his hands (to get to the ball more quickly) and maybe even resting the bat on his shoulder (f nothing else works)

There's a lot of little adjustments he can make, (which he needs to)
Some indication that he might be banged up...
Dunedin81 : 8/22/2017 8:31 am : link
was icing his shoulder after the game on Sunday, of course he says there's nothing at all wrong with it.
I think he needs cut down
section125 : 8/22/2017 8:48 am : link
on the length of the swing. Just how somebody the size of a doorway cuts down on their swing is beyond me.

Now maybe they should review Giancarlo Stanton's swing. He is similar size even if a bit leaner. See what Stanton does and if it can be applied to Judge.

In the end, Judge needs be -placed lower in the lineup. He did a lot to kill rallies last weekend. When Headley is having better at bats and has done so since the all star break, it is time to get him in a better slot. Getting Castro and Bird back will be huge.

Gardy/Ells
Hicks(in a slump too)
Didi
Sanchez
Castro
Bird/Judge
Judge/Bird
Frazier/Headley
Headley/Frazier
Tanaka off the 10 day...
Dunedin81 : 8/22/2017 2:59 pm : link
hoping he is healthy and ready to go. We need good starting pitching if the bats are going to continue to whisper.
Tanaka Tuesday !!

Anyone have any info on Nestor Cortes? Guys got nice pitching numbers.. looks to be in the mix next year or dealt?
I think the "real" Judge
Matt M. : 8/22/2017 3:48 pm : link
will fall somewhere in between how he has hit for the last 6 weeks and how he hit for the first 3 months. I don't think he is quite this bad. But, I also don't think he he really good enough to sustain anything near how he played the first 3 months. His strike zone is too big, he has some mechanical issues with his stance, and he has some mechanical issues with his swing. The promising piece is that even with his dismal BA over the last 6 weeks, his OBA is more than .100 points better, which is an example of a good eye. He won't continue to strike out quite like this, but it is doubtful he will regularly hit .300 or even close.
