Geno forecs the ball and the interception, instead of throwing it into the stands and taking 3...and the look on McAdoo's face just said it all.
I root for Geno---especially love to see tarred and feathered QB's dump their critics....but that throw is a very big mark against him.
...save for one thing: way too many inexplicable INTs.
He just baffles me with some of the balls he throws.
Because Webb is already going to make the roster as the #3. The competition is between Smith and Johnson for #2 and neither guy has shown anything to seperate himself from the other.
But if he ever figured it out, he could be pretty special. Not close in my opinion his competition with Johnson based on what I ve observed in two preseason games.
That's actually not what's happening. Maybe you want Webb to work out now (wouldn't that be great) but IMO they have already decided they are keeping 3 QBs so Webb can officially redshirt. And this has nothing to do with McAdoos lack of QB understanding (no idea how you even conclude that) and everything to do with giving these backups every chance to make their case for the #2 spot. Why give reps to Webb when he won't be the #2 QB?

The fact that McAdoo thinks Gino or Josh are good options as backup QBs show his lack of having an eye for QB talent.
You're right, but that's never been the issue. The issue is an extra roster spot. Taken in that context -and if you decide that cutting a very good player matters, then it's a different argument.
You are, maybe unintentionally, implying that you have a better understanding of how to work with QBs.
Grizz, you really don't understand how this works. Webb isn't playing this year, he isn't ready. 3 QBs was always the plan, are you just realizing this now?

But that is what happens when you draft a QB not quite ready for the NFL. You can't afford to waive him to the practice squad, he'll never last. So you are committing to carrying 3 QB's. While I'm sure McAdoo had input in who those QB's were, it is Reese pulling the trigger.
I saw some good things from Geno last night, he was on top of rush packages for the most part, but his sack with 3 rushers was pathetic and totally on him. His throw on 4th & 5 was a major league throw, on time and on target. But the INT was inexcusable. That can't happen.
My guess is that if neither Geno nor JJ establishes himself, Reese will be looking for an experienced vet at cutdown time. They're always available.
Webb is a better player than Geno and Josh Johnson already.
Otherwise, based purely on wins/losses, I'm low enough on Geno Smith to think Webb would be about even.
It's not like Webb was a first round pick. He has a lot of question marks of his own - including mechanics and being more accurate - to work out before he's a viable player.
Unless Geno was psychologically ruined because of the last 2 years and is now self-destructive, the Webb described in the scouting reports can in no way give a NFL team a better chance to win.
All good. Salami Smith has a great ring to it.
