Beckham is a great player
Chris684 : 8/22/2017 1:19 pm : link
He might very well be injured and I don't have an opinion on what he was doing last night because I didnt see it.

But those glossing over the idea that maybe he was being dramatic must have missed when he made a spectacle with a kicking net for a month last season, or the time he showed up for a playoff game at Lambeau in January with no shirt on.

The Beckham cult members are very strange. Sounds like some of you would jump off of a bridge if he told you to.

arcarsenal : 8/22/2017 1:23 pm : link
Imagine getting this close to the real pay day and your season (or worse) flashing before your eyes....

so the kickijg net stuff is the same as taking a knee in the tunnel?
nygiants16 : 8/22/2017 1:23 pm : link
if he wanted the attention why not do it right on the field? please explain why he wouldnt do it right on the field if he wanted attention?

the kicking stuff absolutely was for attention but sorry i am not buying him running off the field into the tunnel before taking a knee was for the cameras...not buying it
Maybe some of you guys are right.
Beezer : 8/22/2017 1:25 pm : link
Maybe I'm being a little tough on him in this scenario.

I suppose I might not feel this way if all the drama over the last few seasons wasn't in place. Kind of like a little kid who has patterns of behavior.

For those taking issue with the definition of me "loving" OBJ ... let me clarify. I love him like I loved LT. He was a great player and I always rooted for his success, and his off-field stuff has always made me cringe. I still pull for LT to be a good human being. I just get the feeling he'll always be kind of an asshole who will always push whatever limit that's in front of him. Just his persona.

Different specifics with OBJ. But I hope that makes my point more clear. Love him on this team of ours ... sometimes irritated by his apparent lack of maturity on such a brightly lit stage.
if beckham really wanted all eyes on him
nygiants16 : 8/22/2017 1:25 pm : link
he could of laid on the field rolling around prete ding to be in pain, make them get the stretcher out and rrally make a big thing of it...

instead he walks off the field to the sideline, sits down then decides to run into the tunnel before going to his knees, yeah something doesnt add up if he wanted to do it for attention...

not to mention he got booed by the fans when he ran off the field

I'd say the same thing, but I saw Dominik Hixon return to the spring practice at the new Met Life in 2010 after hurting himself. He came out with his leg wrapped, walking fine and even was in the team huddle break at the very end of practice.

Next day I heard he tore his MCL and couldn't believe it.

In OBJ's case, it's certainly the ankle and the MRI is surely just to make everything is in tact....but I'd never judge by a player walking around on the sideline after seeing Hixon.

I do think some of you fellas are
Beezer : 8/22/2017 1:33 pm : link
either being a bit disingenuous, or naive.

Have you ever coached a kid, or been a teammate of someone, with a flair for the dramatic?

I've coached several kids who'd pop up from an injury (talking AAU basketball) and limp through it ... toughing it out ... only to learn later they had a more substantial injury. Then others whose injury wasn't severe at all. Maybe a ding that takes a minute or two and they walk it off, but yes, when the attention is on them? They limp, limp, limp then fall to the floor.

The truth is that I don't know what happened with OBJ. I could easily be wrong about the "to the knees" display. But given his repertoire of drama, if I had to bet a whole bunch of throwaway money to know, with certainty, what was up? Well, I know which way I'd lean.

If you fellas don't think OBJ knows exactly where the cameras are at all times, you're just not being honest.

Again, I like him. Seems like a great guy. Just ... this stuff.

You don't all have to feel the same way that I do.

ODB is fine. I think he was just being his normal overly dramatic self.

Certainly seemed like that could be the case - and in his defense, while he took his helmet of and gave us a little bit of histrionics while leaving the field, he did wait until he was off the field and in the tunnel to really let his emotions out - of course probably not realizing the camera man followed him and kept rolling

He's a diva, for sure, but he's our diva, and fingers crossed he's OK

I would agree there was some Diva in his display. Especially when he got in the tunnel and was on the ground. One poster commented the coverage reminded him of the WWE and was expecting someone to hit Odell with a chair and stomp on his knee.

Can't be more honest than this - I root for the player on the field ... and I root for him to not be quite as dramatic. I root for him to evolve a bit. To mature. As I wrote before, I don't think he's a bad person. So, it's not quite just about "the laundry." That's honesty.

Good question. The fact that I don't know the answer doesn't change my opinion that it's possible he played things up for the camera in the tunnel.

Again, track record with this kind of thing. He's a smart guy. He knows what he's doing.

This doesn't make him an evil person. Just a dramatic one, imo.

Calling Beckham a drama queen is calling the sky blue.

The more important thing is that this was a reminder that he is always one hit away in a league full of DBs that would love to take out one of his knees.
the camera
Csonka : 8/22/2017 2:12 pm : link
Following a player into the tunnel is uncalled for. Absolutely follow him as he leaves the sidelines. Once he's in the tunnel, let him be. That's for everyone, not for OBJ. Maybe it hurt like hell but he was putting on a brave face and not limping. There would be none of this "diva" talk if the cameraman stopped where he should.

You always take this stance - fans are biased. Why does this surprise you? Expecting fans to be completely objective is a fruitless endeavor. It's never going to happen, so I don't know why you're so hung-up on constantly pointing it out.

Fan is short for "fanatic," not "realist."

I don't know why supporting a team should be incompatible with objectivity. If a guy on the Eagles acts like a moron it's fine to call him a moron. The same should apply to Giants players.

Being a realist and expecting most football fans to be objective clashes just a wee bit, don't you think?

It's football, not politics.

(Hopefully using that word doesn't get me banned)

Who cares if people don't treat division rival players the same way? Does it really change anything or make any difference?

Odell will be fine, the only other athlete the Giants ever had that I can compare to Odell is LT, and he was just about indestructible until he blew out his Achilles heel at the end of his career. This is the first Giants player I would dare to compare to the great LT. They almost seem to will themselves to health, like it can't happen to them. I know that sounds crazy, but don't rule out completely what determination can achieve. Odell has the same determination that the true greats of the sports have, like Jordan, like LeBron.

100% agree. when they mentioned possible concussion i said immediately thats why he kneeled. i took a pretty tough hit to my head once and i did THE EXACT SAME THING he did in the hallway. felt dizzy literally just knelt and closed my eyes, put my head down to try and stop the spins. i didnt have a concussion either, but holy shit i felt so off. again who knows why he did it, who cares.

it could have also been him just so overcome and relieved that he needed a second. he prob saw his season flash before his eyes

ryanmkeane : 8/22/2017 2:41 pm : link
fans bitching about pre-season gets worse and worse every year...but pre-season has pretty much always been around. It's football, no way to avoid injury if you're in the wrong place, wrong time or step the wrong way. Was the Beckham hit unncessary? Probably...but the other team plays football too. There's an argument to be made on whether you should hit like that in a pre season game, but if that DB tries to tackle him awkwardly or pulls up, maybe he gets injured. Headhunting is definitely BS...but this hit wasn't that bad.

Now...having more practices and switching to 2 or 3 pre season games would be nice. But players would still get hurt.
I want to add a thought to why Odell went straight into the lockeroom
Rjanyg : 8/22/2017 2:42 pm : link
Part of me thinks that he was thinking he might actually get animated and do something a little crazy ( throw helmet, curse, fight the kicking net kinda stuff ) so instead he went into the locker room to get away from the cameras and ironically a camera follows him into the tunnel. Just a thought. I am not saying he wasn't hurt or injured just saying that this might actually be a sign of maturity on OBJ's part. He looked like he wanted to go after the DB who hit him low. He actually did a nice job of deflating the hit with his post game interview. He might have turned a corner.

and some who said the CBA has killed quality of play early. That is definitely the case. Teams aren't figuring shit out until week 7 or 8. It should be earlier and would be earlier if they ramped up training camp instead of scaling it back.

Don't you think there's a difference between making an absurd claim about a player's ability and being biased towards generally rooting for or against certain players regarding their general personalities?

I do. I think the former should dictate how you view certain posters but the latter really shouldn't unless it's extreme.

That has to be the stupidest thing a sports fan can do to a star player. Nothing is guaranteed in this league -- Beckham might enter free agency, at which point he'll could be coveted by the Browns. And he'll remember the booing.

That's one of the problem with sports: it's appreciated, observed, and attended by sports fans.
