Odell donates $100,000 to Harvey relief.

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/6/2017 7:58 pm
UFB. He couldn't donate more with all he's raking in? What a jackass. Trade him. I think we could fetch a high second round pick for him.

All sarcasm aside, good for Odell. He gets a ton of crap, but he seems like a good dude.

He's a cancer that will bring this team down. All hecever thinks about is himself.

But he *only* makes $1.8M this season. That's >5.5% of his salary. To put that in context, that's like someone making $100k/year donating $5500.

Kudos to Odell.
Pretty good dude, as I have always said.

Well done.
His videos on Instagram were cool

Talked about being 13 during Katrina and living through that, that New Orleans got through it and so will Houston.
FYI - he mentions 2 charities

Samaritan's Purse (rated 4 of 4 stars by Charity Navigator): https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=4423

Americares (rated 4 of 4 stars): https://www.charitynavigator.org/index.cfm?bay=search.summary&orgid=3289

but Kevin Hart and the Rock did their $25k challenge thing and combined made over $100 million in 2016. Just saying...

J.J. Watt has been getting a lot of credit in the news
eclipz928 : 9/6/2017 8:54 pm : link
for his Harvey charity (and deservedly so), but it's worth pointing out that despite the fact that it's raised $27 million now Watt's contribution to it was just the same amount, $100K, that Odell just donated.

Again, nothing that Watt has done should be diminished, but Beckham at such a young age has done a lot of great charitable things with his fame and finances since being in the NFL that probably should be recognized a lot more than what it does.

He really is a good kid - hopefully more people start to characterize him that way.
He should be focusing...

Good points. And not to minimize what Watt has done, or claim OBJ poverty...but Watt will make about $15 million this season, OBJ will make $3.3 million on his rookie deal

That's the percent equivalent of someone making $100K/year before taxes donating about $3000. Yes, OBJ makes maybe twice as much with endorsements, but the point remains, $100K is a meaningful amount for him to donate.

Samaritan's Purse is a good charity, I have given through them on a number of occasions.

I couldn't agree more. McAdoo should cut him tomorrow. Why is he donating $ when he should be studying the playbook? Totally unfocused.
Way to step up young man!

Fair point, but your are also just using his football salary. Odell makes a lot more than that. But it really doesn't matter, it is a chunk of change and he is very generous to offer it.

The mistake people make Odell is that they try to label him
Essex : 9/6/2017 11:34 pm : link
either a good guy or bad guy or selfish etc. When we don't know people we generally try to typecast them in our minds as good or bad. Odell does some great things, like this donation, he competes so hard and works hard, he plays well (which is obviously important) and he does some dumb things like trotting off the field on his own in Cleveland, looking directly into the partially eclipsed sun, taking dumb penalties. Notice I didn't say the boat trip (the dumbest story of all time). I find this Odell did a great thing so he has to be a great guy or Odell did something selfish he is a bad guy to be tiring. He frustrates me at times, but his talent is far worth it. There may come a time when the bad outweighs the good, and then I will change my opinion.

I agree with your overall point regarding Beckham's generosity. But his income is not limited to his Giants salary.
A quick Google search shows that
eclipz928 : 9/7/2017 7:12 am : link
Beckham is set to make about $10 mil in endorsement deals this year to go along with his $1.7 mil salary.

But really, it doesn't matter if he's making $10 billion - it's still a very significant donation. More than plenty of people who do make more than him that actually have an affiliation to the Houston area.
Can't we just say
section125 : 9/7/2017 7:56 am : link
"well done" and leave it as that. Good for him. He's a good guy and $100k is an excellent donation.

Odell is all about Odell, bad teammate, bad dude and its only a matter of time until his career is derailed due to injury.
Was gonna say
Bluesbreaker : 9/7/2017 10:46 am : link
thats a sizable amount for his current status it's not how much just the fact that he did it means enough .
Some of the comments from the main stream media pisses me off . I refuse to watch any main stream propaganda .
Odell is going to become very rich and he probably makes more on endorsements than he does football .
Thank you
