All Jordan and Dan said was that Odell's injury was worse than being reported and that week 1 was at risk. Obviously both are true.

If a player of Odell's caliber gets hit like he did
est1986 : 9/7/2017 1:09 pm : link
In the second preseason game wouldn't most players sit the rest of preseason as a precaution, and that of course leaves it open for any Joe Blow to speculate it's a possibility he can miss week one... I just don't get the props Ranaan gets.. When it's warranted fine but he is wrong more than he is right which is awful.

I don't think you can say that definitively. For all we know, OBJ's ankle is 95%. We don't know one way or the other. We don't know if they are holding him back out of an abundance of caution or because his ankle really is still too painful to go. It would not surprise me if they are holding their cards close to their vest to keep everyone guessing. We just don't know right now and won't know until Sunday. I anticipate OBJ will be listed as questionable, will play, and will contribute, even if there are a little signs of rust.

Lol, exactly
Could it be gamesmanship?
Gmen24 : 9/7/2017 1:11 pm : link
Since the practice is only open to the beat writers for a certain small portion, wouldn't it be wise to limit the amount of work OBJ did when they were there? The writers go back a paint a cloudy picture of OBJ's chances of playing and more is done behind closed doors?

I doubt that's the story here, but I do wonder why teams don't do stuff like this.

It's just the same as anyone basing an opinion off of Dr David Chao. Chao is a quack w/o almost lost his license but many in the media give the guy props. The guys from ESPN would be the last ones I'd consider right. The fact remains they can't see the team portion of practice or any treatment. A few weeks ago Gil Brandt said he was in Phoenix getting laser treatment while someone else said he was at the facility riding a bike.

It's all a wait and see

It's against league rules and you can be fined (or lose picks if a repeat offender) for violating them. Hence the designations "no practice", "limited practice", and "full participation" despite guys being listed on the injury report. If OBJ did anything more than warm up, he'd have to be listed as "limited practice".

exactly....

and the reason i doubt he has a high ankle sprain, the giants doctors are the most caustios in the league, you really think if they thought it was a serious injury he would be on the sidline with no brace nothing?

you think he would of traveled to new england? you think he would be doing warm ups and doing sprints and agility stuff with no brace on?

anyone who has had a high ankle injury knows you can barely walk with a boot on let alone run without one

I didnt see him listed as DNP... I thought he was limited. My comment was assuming it was limited, since limited is a very general term.

Wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. (ankle) and linebacker Keenan Robinson (concussion) did not practice on Wednesday.

He warmed up (i.e. stretched) and did some cutting with the team, but I believe that's it.

I don't think it is gamesmanship to keep your best player out of practice all week.

Beckham is hurt. If he wasn't, he would be practicing.

DNP, but NJ Online had video of him going through all the warm-ups. He ran and did all the warmups with the other receivers except for the hop-jump they do as they go down the field.

They also had him catching the ball standing on one leg - the one with the bad ankle. You can see him keep his balance well and have to reach for a few different balls. Clearly treatment and not a practice session, but he was not as limited as a DNP might suggest. Just wasn't doing the team stuff.

I think he plays, but agree that this is no more than a guess and he can easily not play. What I DON'T agree with is that this is currently a severe injury. Too much footage showing him doing things that guys with bad ankle injuries cannot do.

OBJ_AllDay : 9/7/2017 1:53 pm : link
Could linger with him for awhile if he's still not ready. I was certain they were being overly cautious after OBJs smiles/good mood after the Cleveland game. Thought game 1 would never be in jeapordy for him...

Yeah, he ran around some... today it was tweeted at 75 percent speed and with no cutting.

But even if he was cutting and running full speed, the medical staff has instructed him not to practice.

This is not a good thing.

I'm not sure why you are trying to spin it differently.
someone
Eric from BBI : Admin : 9/7/2017 2:30 pm : link
tweeted this morning that there have been three times when Odell did not practice all week and then played.

So it is not impossible that he doesn't play.

But missing Wednesday and Thursday is bad. They don't really practice on Friday.

to me that some people think he actually will not play.
My opinion..
ryanmkeane : 9/7/2017 2:41 pm : link
he's pretty much fine, and doesn't want anything to come up before gametime, so he's basically just taking it easy until then. He's been walking around and running around pretty much fine - ever since the injury.
And yes...
ryanmkeane : 9/7/2017 2:42 pm : link
it would be really dumb of the Giants to say "yup, he's playing" because then Dallas can forget about it and move on. Giants are playing it the right way. Keep the thought of it out there and he'll be fine for Sunday night once it's time.
If you had a slight
ryanmkeane : 9/7/2017 2:45 pm : link
ankle sprain, you'd stay off of it until you knew you had to get going. Which is basically what he's doing.

I'll eat crow if he doesn't play, but he's fine. Let's be serious here.
nygiants
ryanmkeane : 9/7/2017 2:46 pm : link
agreed...it is Thursday afternoon and the game is Sunday night. He's running close to full speed without much hesitation. The beat reporters are acting like the game is tomorrow. And even if it was, he'd play.
i will gladly come on here and say i was wrong
nygiants16 : 9/7/2017 2:58 pm : link

no legit team doctor is going to let their star player walk around on the sideline with no boot and no wrap whatsoever if they thought it was anything serious

Not only that, he was on the sidelines jumping around, and running into the locker room the night of the injury.
He's not playing
Joey in VA : 9/7/2017 3:05 pm : link
He's a speed guy and if he's not at 100% he's not going, there is no way and no how Mac risks one game for the season.
He'll play if he's cleared......
Simms11 : 9/7/2017 3:10 pm : link
I'm not so sure he'll be cleared. Saying that, if he's limited and plays, is he better then King playing full strength? He may not have the ability to run routes like he's accustomed to and that's what separates him from other exceptional receivers. I'd be pleasantly surprised if he plays this week. He'll get an extra day to get ready to play against Detroit, as that game is on Monday night next week.
Can Odell play without practice?

A healthy Odell Beckham is basically uncoverable, and a terror after the catch. Take those assets away, and what is he? A decoy? Maybe, until Rod Marinelli calls the Giants' bluff with man coverage.

Eric,
absolutely, Jordan was right. How could he be wrong? He implied there is a possibility he might not play weeks 1 and 2. Whether Odell plays or not, Jordan is right.

What bothered so many about this, is it was no news at all, just speculation about his potential week 1 status.

Now, if the report was, that Dr so and so has diagnosed OBJ with illness X, and the Dr puts a 90% chance that he won't play over the next 2 weeks, that is hard, legitimate news. There was none of this kind of solid, corroborating, supporting info in Ranaan's report.

as i said weeks ago, in that thread... the timing of his report reflected that he did have good color, and wasnt just making stuff up... fwiw... in terms of his actual health.

i have no axe to support Jordan, but i have always had an axe to try and give people what i hear in as vague a way as possible

without practice. It's different in the regular season when you get nicked and don't practice--but still give it a go. If he can't practice, at this point, it makes no sense to play him and he won't play.

At the same time Jordan and Graziano posted that report, I heard the same from hitdog privately.

Again, he might play. But this wasn't as insignificant an injury as people have been hoping for.

The way I look at it is this: it looked to me on that hit that Odell blew out his knee and I am just thankful that wasn't the result. The fact that Odell will be back on the field this year is a blessing in my book because that looked really bad.

Eric,
Gregorio : 9/7/2017 4:35 pm : link
all most of us were privy to was a story that Odell may or may not play. It may or may not rain tomorrow. The Yankees may or may not win tonight. Not much difference.

I'm with you on the play. That moment was cringe-worthy. Let's hope he heals and plays soon.

I think we're on the same page. My point is Jordan did hear something (as did Graziano - both their names were on that story). It wasn't the click-bait article that many of us thought at the time.

I thought he would practice this week. When he didn't on Wednesday, I was like "oh shit!" Thursday is even worse...it's basically the last practice day before the game.

Now he may warm up with the team on Sunday night and be a game-time decision. But a week ago, most of BBI was saying, "No way he misses this game!"
Just reported that OBJ will not play!
