I do not know why but N.E losing last night

snickers : 9/8/2017 9:03 am
makes me so happy. I can not explain why I dislike that team so much but their loss last night has me smiling. I understand the greatness of B.B. and Brady but there is something about them that irritates me. Glad to see them lose after hearing on my drive home that they would almost certainly go undefeated. Every team is vulnerable and they are no exception, nice to see them eat humble pie for a change.

I don't actually hate the team or the coach.

They're part of my best Giants memories of a lifetime.

The part that I'm enjoying is the "shocked" fans, as if they just couldn't possibly ever lose a football game. It was somewhat irritating when they were down just a point and they looked forlorn. lol

The other part is, as you mentioned, the whole undefeated/they're even better nonsense.

Maybe they are. And I fully expect them to rebound and be one of the more dangerous team going forward. But holy hell, undefeated? Come on.

I don't really mind the Pats,

90% of pundits have pencilled the Pats in the SB. It's great to see the Chiefs _ a contender in their own right _ kick some ass in a game that may have home field implications in the playoffs.
Plus I confess to always liking Smith.
Pats now go to NO. Bet the over in that one.

90% of my college buddies are textbook Masshole Pats/Red Sox fans. Love them all, we've had our wars over the years, and I'm genuinely happy they've gotten to enjoy seeing their teams win at times...

But I'm also with you guys...there's just something sweet about the angst and misery going on over our group text this morning. And they never miss a chance to pile on when Eli has a bad game, so I have no problem enjoying a Pats home loss a little extra with them
I like Belichick...

The 'Are the Pats going to go undefeated?' talk all summer long was annoying as hell.

I've said this before, but whenever I visit New England, I have to laugh at how big their fan base has gotten. The Pats were a distant 4th in terms of sports up there prior to '01. Nobody gave a damn about them & now everybody & their mother are 'lifelong Patriot fans'. Give me a break.
I hate all the Boston area teams in all sports.

Pats are 5-4 after last year.If it werent for the stupidity of Carrol and the Atlanta choke, they would be 3-6. The Giants as we all know are 4-1 and if they were to win the next one would tie the Massholes with wins but have the best record at 5-1.

1. I don't mind the Pats, in fact if the Giants can't win, I'd want the Pats. When I started following sports, they were a doormat, the way they turned it around is really a rags to riches great story.
-They also are a rival of the Jets, which helps.
-I'm from CT so I like the NE name

2. Seattle was lucky to even BE in that position to win the game....they SHOULD have lost to GB and then that catch NEVER should have happened.

yea spent a lot of time in the Boston area in the mid-late 80's and literally if you didn't televise the Pats games every Sunday they probably wouldn't even have noticed. Distant 4th is putting it lightly...ask a Pats superfan to name 1 Pat prior to 2000 that wasn't named Steve Grogan.

and I say that sarcastically, to have lived in NE since 1999. It was great, they were lovable losers, wallowing in their misery.

Then 2001 happened. changed everything, all the teams up here have won, and the fan base is one of the most obnoxious entitled fan bases on the planet.

In every sport, except NBA where I'm a Celtics fan, I hate the Boston team more or as much as most of my teams division rivals.

I get almost as much joy, actually it's not joy it's more relief, from a Boston team loss than I do from my teams win.

I don't know if people will understand that who don't live in New England and dislike most of the teams.
Patriots fans are annoying.
an_idol_mind : 9/8/2017 9:56 am : link
Even with their usual cluelessness abut football, I was surprised to hear the local stations chattering about an undefeated season before the first game had even been played. No matter how good a team is, an undefeated season is nearly impossible. Even the 2007 Pats had a lot of luck in getting to 16-0, and they obviously failed to seal the deal at the end.

but their fan base has gotten way to arrogant. My in- laws are from up there and some of my friends are Pats fans too. They have a ton of band wagon fans. I still remember going to Foxboro in 1990 to see the Giants play the Pats, us on the way to the SB and them on the way to 1-15. 85% of the fans at the game that day were Giants fans. Many of those Pats fans these days are converted Giants' fans, including my 2 friends. In the 50s, 60s, 70s and some of the 80s New England was Giants country. It will be interesting to see how many of them lose interest once Bill and Tom hang it up?
New England
pjcas18 : 9/8/2017 11:23 am : link
was Giants country beyond the 80's even as the Pats lost to the Bears in the SB it was still really Giants country. You'd find a stray Patriots fan, but they were almost like an expansion team.

It wasn't until Parcells/Bledsoe in 1993 that the Patriots started getting a consistent following.

And then a small lull for the 3 Carroll years after they lost to GB in the SB with Parcells, but still better than before Parcells and things obviously escalated with Belichick, but 1993 is the point of demarcation (in my mind).

and I frequented Sullivan Stadium during the early 90's when I'd get free tickets and other incentives, and many Sundays I'd have my own row. My own metal bench.

The 28-3

agreed. My friends both got season tickets in 1993. That place was dead in the early 90s.

It's such an advantage. 74-22 in division since 2001.

that Tom Brady is one of the biggest assholes to ever play the game. One thing I have learned is when someone just reeks of dooshbaggery or "looks" like an asshole, it's true. Brady just looks like an asshole. Fuck him. Fuck the Pats. Love little Bill...fuck the Pats, Brady and Bob Kraft twice.

Plus there's the whole every other year the Pats are getting fined and penalized for breaking the rules thing...so yea, fuck the Pats. Just like fucking the Niners back in the 90s.
and fuck the AFC East while we're at it
djm : 9/8/2017 12:36 pm : link
as far as i'm concerned every other fan base in that division should be ashamed of themselves. All three teams should be fucking relegated. Seriously...all those teams have done the last 17 years is provide comic relief to the NFL.

Win one division when Brady's leg doesn't snap in half. ONE. And even then they allowed the Pats to win 11 games.

There's no way in hell the Pats do what they did if they lived in the NFC East. No fucking way.
I live in New England and can't stand the Pats and their fans.
Blue21 : 9/8/2017 12:53 pm : link
They are a bunch of bandwagon jumpers. I remember when they couldn't put an ass in the seats at the Stadium and weren't televised every week because they didn't sell out. Now they have become the most obnoxious fans possible. The interviews of their fans tailgating yesterday was plain ridiculous. Pats are a great team but the bandwagon jumpers will be gone as soon as Brady is for sure. They still ridicule the Giants for their for their TWO so called lucky Super Bowl wins. They are terrible losers and obnoxious winners. Arrogance galore. They need to eat more of this humble pie. I won't see many Patriot shirts or hats today around town.

It really isn't the advantage you think it is, look at their record vs. the NFC over that time frame, look at their out of division record since then.

They dominate everyone. Their division has had weak QB's for a long time, but it hasn't been much different from the NFC East in that time same time frame.

Snickers, I think I can explain why you smiled when NE lost
Marty in Albany : 9/8/2017 1:24 pm : link
It is the same reason that many people used to hate the Yankees. They were too successful winning all those World Series, the same as NE with its Super Bowls wins.

As Ambrose Bierce famously said, "Success is the one unpardonable sin against our fellows."

Cenotaph : 9/8/2017 1:47 pm : link
was over the top too much, even for the Pats. Ugh they deserved to lose for just that alone. And I don't hate BB or even the team/players - it's mostly the insufferable NE/Boston fans. As mentioned, they basically shut down when they were down 1 point, as if KC shouldn't have even had a chance to come back once they were behind. NE really blew it - they had a ton of chances early and didn't finish them/KC defense stepped up to stop them. The offense got more predictable later - I think Brady tried a long bomb 2-3 times in a row when they were trying to catch up, hoping for a huge play instead of working the ball down the field. They still had time and plenty of chance to come back too. Reminded me a bit of the end of the '07 SB, Brady going for it all a few times (tho in that case they had less choice)...only to end up with a good PD or a sack. Oh, and I swear Brady shoulda been down for a Safety at one point but they gave them the ball on the goal line. They do seem to get breaks, even when they lose lol

The minute the Red Sox won the World Series, it was only compounded by the success of the Pats, who were a joke prior to '04. Nothing put a smile on my face more than listening to the Masshole's self deprecating humor about how bad ALL of their sports teams were (minus Larry Bird)...and then it all changed...
