@Ken_Rosenthal

As @JoelSherman1 just said, MLB moving TB-NYY series on Mon-Wed to Citi Field.

Not sure why not Yankee Stadium, but there it is.

MLB moved TB-NYY series Citi and not Baltimore or another neutral site due to hotel issues, source says. Only need rooms for one team in NY.
Weird

But totally cool with me.

Sounds legit. Maybe I'll go out to citi, tix will be cheap I'm sure. Driving to citi blows tho nevermind
cool

I've never been to Citi field, was just discussing with the kids that we should go, how do we get tickets?
It's
mitch300 : 9/8/2017 2:43 pm : link
a great opportunity to see the Yanks/Judge take BP. Road team goes last and the gates will be open. Highly recommend it.

Hmmm...if only they had a subway line that had a stop within 200 yards of the stadium...
yea was saying to the kids a few weeks ago too we'd like to catch
Stu11 : 9/8/2017 2:45 pm : link
a game at Citi one day. Definitely going to look into it. Joel Sherman is a great source on this. He's tweeting like crazy about the though process and scenarios that were discussed.
Neutral field?
njm : 9/8/2017 2:48 pm : link
Somewhat dubious, but the only reason I can think of.

Great point, will likely look at tix for one of those nights myself
From a purely financial standpoint...
Dunedin81 : 9/8/2017 2:53 pm : link
If the Rays get the gate it makes a ton of sense to play the game at Citi. Field likely half full, at minimum. Teams wouldn't draw a fraction of that in a truly neutral venue (except Montreal, perhaps)
Any news about tickets?
Matt M. : 9/8/2017 2:54 pm : link
Nothing listed on Ticketmaster.com yet.

Imagine if you could have just worked through that little stream of consciousness all by yourself without posting it. If you're going to finish your post with "nevermind," then you can take it a step further and not hit "submit."

Absolutely the reason........even though the Yanks would be the "away" team and bat first, playing at home would still be considered an advantage.

But, they'd get more revenue I think from playing in Yankee Stadium, and working out some sort of revenue share.

from RAB:

"NYC Football Club, the MLS franchise that plays its home games at Yankee Stadium, has a game this weekend, and I assume thats why the Rays series wont be played in the Bronx. They wont be able to get the field prepped in time for baseball after a soccer game Saturday."
Pretty nice break for the Yanks
Kyle in NY : 9/8/2017 3:05 pm : link
only two true road series remaining now, one of them beginning tonight
Though obviously the circumstances behind it
Kyle in NY : 9/8/2017 3:06 pm : link
are truly unfortunate, before anyone gets on my case
I actually think this is pretty unfair to the rest of the AL.
Mad Mike : 9/8/2017 3:28 pm : link
It will obviously be more profitable than moving it to a truly neutral site, but that should factor into it. Moving it for weather is a necessity, but the yanks shouldn't get such a competitive advantage as having it in NY, even in Queens. (For the record, I thought it was extremely unfair when the Saints game was moved here),
Damn
AJ23 : 9/8/2017 3:30 pm : link
Was really hoping they'd play these games at Camden Yards.
17 of the Yanks' last 20 games are at home.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/8/2017 3:33 pm : link
3 games in Toronto, and the rest are at home. Nice schedule for the Yanks.
So I posted without reading too much about it.
Mad Mike : 9/8/2017 3:35 pm : link
Apparently the league did try to find a true neutral site, but couldn't find enough hotel rooms anywhere for both teams. Given that, it seems more like a lucky break for the Yankees than really unfair. You can only do what you can do. I'd certainly be pissed though if this happened for a team we're competing against for a playoff spot.
Look games in Tampa
The 12th Man : 9/8/2017 4:00 pm : link
for the Yankees are like playing in Citifield anyway. 40% of the fans for the subway series games are Yankee fans.

Maybe this is the Red Sox punishment for stealing signs. LOL!
They can let all Mets fans go for free
NewFakeDannyHeep : 9/8/2017 4:10 pm : link
And we'll boo them to give the Rays back their home field.

After this year, and the announcement by Mr.Coupon that the Mets would be cutting payroll, trying to pitch Harvey on 3 days rest off an injury and raising ticket prices for next year are there any Mets fans left in NY?

plus the Rays have the worst attendance in baseball at about 15K per game - and that's tickets sold, not necessarily gate attendance. The Mets still average a respectable 30K per game or so, despite being awful this year.
At least Citi Field
B in ALB : 9/8/2017 5:06 pm : link
gets to see one NY team win in its stadium this year.

Ba-dum cha!

Try the veal.

Rays get the gate receipts, correct? Probably be their biggest pay series of the season!
Meaningful September baseball at Citi Field

Just like the Mets fans predicted.

Apparently they tried to move it to Baltimore, Pittsburgh and I think 1 other city but none of them had the hotel rooms available to accommodate both teams.

Not saying Yankees did anything wrong but just shows how ridiculous and immature Houston GMs demands of Texas were when his thoughts should have been with his fans and community, not with his owners gate and need to get 81 home games.

Yet Texas got raked for something exactly the same as this NYY/TB situation.
