Welp guys, after a long off-season and suffering through meaningless preseason games, with much excitement, the season has arrived! And the start of it is with the hated division rival Cowboys...a must-watch game.
Except, in a cruel twist of fate, those of us in certain parts of Florida are very likely to lose our power right around game time. In the Tampa area, we are preparing to get our hunkering on. A local meteorologist said that the worst weather should begin at about 8:00pm Sunday night. Great. Thanks.
And while many of you may say..."get some perspective, guy...this storm has killed and people have lost, and will lose everything," well, yeah, I know that, and that's very sad. But me being able to watch the game isn't going to change ANY of that, k? And yes, I'm concerned about friends and family in the impact zone. But we've had time to prepare, and the storm's coming no matter what, but so is the game... did they have to be at the same time? Homes can be rebuilt, things can be replaced, but I can't watch this game live without power! Anyway, if any of you can make a DVD for any of us Giants' Irma refugees, I will owe you one. Thanks!
Jim - If you are worried about missing it send me your email and I'll get you a stream you can watch on your phone.
If you're really in the storm's path, I don't think you're going to be thinking about watching football for a while afterward. Stay safe, and good luck.
Longboat buttoned up?
Weather channel has winds of 123mph at 8pm Sunday and lasting into Monday morning. My family will be in a safe room watching the game on NFL mobile. It will feel a lot better dealing with Monday if the Giants are 1-0. Go Big Blue!
But I do a daily LIVE show, not a podcast of music from the 60's, 70's & 80's coast to coast by request and I plan on doing a Music Marathon starting at 12 noon until I lose power tomorrow. So for any Florida residents and beyond who would like to listen to some Rock & Roll while getting IRMA updates, please tune in!
Be safe everyone....

CTC--
Up until about 4:00 this afternoon I figured I'd spend the night Sunday at a hotel by I-75 and head back into Longboat on Monday.
Now I'm thinking there won't be a Longboat Key to go back to on Monday.

Probably better to take Alligator Alley or 595 and come East. Irma looks to be going up I-75.
This girl should weaken hopefully..
The water is sooo warm but those mountains will knock her down to cat 3 I hope
Cuba will weaken it a lot hopefully
I look around the bedroom now...and I'm going to lose my house. Absolutely surreal.
Key west looks like it might change forever. Really hoping Cuba weakens it because the water in between Cuba and the south tip of Florida is 87-90 degrees and could act as jet fuel I fear
It's scary how Cuba hasn't weakened it more already .. hoping the early morning advisory we see the winds knocked down to 115 before it hits that super warm water
One computer model has it going west out over the gulf and into Louisiana but highly highly highly unlikely as all other models show a landfall around Marco Island
Let's see what happens
I really hope for the best for all of you in the area.
No doubt we are going to have some bad weather. I appreciate all of you who pray to do so for us, and those who don't for your positive thoughts. Really concerned with GruningsOntheHill and all those near the landfall area. Please get somewhere safe.
I'll try to remember to check in with BBI on Monday if I can get cell service.
Thanks to those that mentioned the Verizon NFL app. We may have to do that. Although not sure about the wisdom of using cell battery up during a hurricane on the game...but what the hell. Maybe we'll get really lucky.
In any case, Big Rick thanks for the offer. My email is allstarjim30@gmail.com. I'll just use the Verizon stream though...I have Verizon.
Eli4life, I was in the National Guard for many years. What unit is he in? FL Guard? If so, may know him. I also heard Christie is sending the NJ Guard here to help which is great.
I did a lot of Hurricane relief duty in my years in the Guard. Your son will be safe, please pass along my thanks for his service.
This will be a Giants Cowboys game I'll never forget. I imagine I'll be tuning in on the AM dial. I feel so out of the loop for opening day. It's been non stop prep since last Sunday.
Still bummed about the game though. Hope to watch on the Verizon app.
In a previous thread the Capt. Said he was going to ride it out in Key West. I hope he thought otherwise, and was able to get to a safer place.
Watching the Giants on Sunday, will be a welcome change. We have been on a rollercoaster all week, and every station was spaghetti model, and satellite imagery.
Stay safe Florida. Go Blue.
Going to suck leaving the horses behind. The dogs and cats will come with.
Going to be spending the morning figuring what memories to take with us.
The look on his face was pretty funny; I don't know if he thought I was kidding or not.
Anywho, I feel bad for those in line for bigger hit. Hope everyone stays safe.
Really feel bad for St. Maarten, Key West and the other spots that are taking direct hits. And those in SW FL, probably should GTFO.
Need it to keep going west for about 100 miles
It is all shuttered up and sturdy as a female Hungarian power lifter. yes, have plenty of gas and a generator.
There will be 5-10 of us there and have enough water, food, beer, ice for 30 I would imagine.
Many of my friends left this area for the west coast and they almost convinced me to commit on Thursday.
Though I won't be in my condo, which is about 1/4 mile from the ocean ( barricaded nicely with high rise condos and a shopping center in front and across A1A, Not worried about water surge 3rd floor) but will most certainty lose power.
After this week, if that's what you said would be the potential worst, I would have signed up for that- obviously.
My thoughts turn to those in south, southwest and all along the coast up to Tampa.

Hang in there brother, we'll see you in Tampa. Best of luck!!!
Now pretty safe now (and with a much needed rum drink!!) 40' high at the Hilton! Girlfriend found the hotel, but I figured it was a crappy motel. I don't think a Hilton has ever seen all the crap I dragged inside. 2 big fishing coolers full of food (and of course leaking out the bottom, now in the tub), 2 propane tanks, Weber tailgate grill, dog crate and his bedding/blankets, lots of suit cases and bags. Dumped 35 gals of gas into our cars under the front entrance canopy while it was raining sideways. Didn't want it stolen in the night. Tommorow and Monday I'll be grilling in the parking lot.
Of course in the middle of all the madness today my girlfriend comes running to me crying. She found a baby squirrel under a tree and HAS to save it. So we put it in a plastic storage bin and I thought we had another pet to drag along. Amazingly she found a vet, and close as to not waste precious gas, that was happy to rescue it. We named it Irma.
Hope all our Florida BBI crew is safe tonight and prepared. Sending out a prayer for all you boys and your families.
Going to suck leaving the horses behind. The dogs and cats will come with.

Terrible, terrible, surreal feeling stowing your entire life and just taking what you can. On top of everything else we have 2 bins of all our old photos. Lots of "stuff" you can replace with money. It's those memories that are priceless. Hope your house is spared and the animals find a way brother. Awful feeling walking away from everything you own. Made me physically sick to my stomach just before we left Marathon Wednesday when the reality of the situation kicked in.
Side note. I brought my barometer along for the trip, reading 982 currently. Conditions has been getting worse since checking in at 2am. Squalls rolling through every few minutes now. Windows rattling and whistling but ok. Had to turn off emergency alerts on the phone because of constant tornado warnings.
We are pretty close to the projected path. Obviously, we still don't know, but one thing is certain, we are going to get waxed pretty hard regardless of where the eye passes.
Don't forget to fill your washing machine for non drinking water. And anything you really want to keep dry lock in the dishwasher.
BBiK - funny story with all your equipment lugged into the hotel. Get some sleep. You did all you could and geez that was a round about route to get to Liquordale....

BBiK so far only rain and gusty winds in Martin County.
Going to switch to the pinned thread instead of jumping between three threads....
Surreal.
