NFT: IRMA updates from our BBI family in Florida?

bigblue1124 : 9/10/2017 7:42 am
I know there has been a few threads on this some about the game others on prep for the storm. I was hoping to have one solely for current conditions and how everyone is doing?
My sister and her family are in Jupiter they made the decision to stay even before the shift west however I have not been able to get in touch with her yet today. I was wondering if anyone here is in that area and can shed some light on how things are going in that area?

If possible use this thread to give updates on the area you are in so friends can keep track of each other during this crazy storm. I know a lot of you have been kind of screwed with the predictions of this thing and being able to prep for it.
My prayers are with you, you’re family and you’re properties.
Good luck all

These guys on TWC are nuts
trueblueinpw : 9/10/2017 11:03 am : link
Doesn't seem safe where they're reporting from - this one guy is reporting about 10 feet from raging water. Doesn't seem safe.

Best thoughts and prayers for everyone down there in FLA.

That's just stupid stick the wind gauge out the window.

The worst part of social media people trying to out do others at this time, not the sharpest crayon in the box IMO.

Hurricane tracks are not really "accurate"...

Obviously not. With all the technology, models, etc. I expected a little more accurate forecast. They had this going east of Miami just a few days ago. It went significantly west. Yeah, they got it going north when it Cuba, so that was good.

You're just way off base. The storm is right in the window of the path projected days ago. From Wednesday:

They evacuated to Fort Myers. With storm surge they will more than likely lose there ground level home. Sanibel is a barrier Island and is expected to get a 10 foot storm surge which will cover the Island.

We live on Pine Island just across the bay from Sanibel and Captiva. We were going to stick it out when it was going up the east coast. We evacuated to the Vero Beach yesterday. Now projections have the eye passing directly over our little island and we expect to be homeless come Monday.

No doubt they get hazard pay for going out into the middle of a hurricane
Lost power at the hotel for 2 hours.

We're in Miramar, west of Ft Lauderdale. CBS 4 and ABC 10 news are broadcasting here at the Hilton. I was the guy in the Giants hat walking the cocker spaniel behind the cute reporter if any saw. We had no power so I couldn't see it. Solid 40-50 winds. News people said highest gusts were 86. I watched 4 transformers blow earlier. The worst stuff was 3-4 hrs ago.

I think the worst of the eye wall went 20 miles south of my house in Marathon and crushed Big Pine Key where my boss lives. I called and cursed him out Thursday night because he was going to stay with his 25 yr old son. 3 hrs later he called me from the road. I just saw a picture of cars outside our high school almost completely under water. Town must be demolished. Insane to think people stayed and many stayed living on their boats! I'm guessing at least 20 dead from our harbor.

Blue sky's mid 70's, no humidity don't know what you guys are talking about!

Planned coming up here months ago once the Giants schedule came out. So I'd be back for the game in Tampa. We always come up this time of year. Grandson Birthday and a Giants game!

My brother in law from Miami went to our nieces in Riverview, just south of Tampa, then when the track shifted west they all then went to my house (25 miles west of Orlando). Don't know what is worse the in-laws , 10 of them kids an all, or Irma. I'm not there to control 'em.

My home is in Rotonda FL, but I'm up north on a planned trip to RI. Came up two weeks ago, before any hurricane; I guess you could call it an accidental evacuation. Irma should pass over my house in FL about kickoff time. I will be able to watch the game up here unlike many of you but very worried about the house and all my friends and neighbors.

Prof, did you get your shutters up before you left or did somebody get them for you?

Most hurricane fatalities occur after the storm ends. People don't respect floodwaters, aren't wary of electrical lines or damaged structures, run generators in garages, etc. Keep your guard up and use common sense.

Don't expect even a whimper in FWB. Did clear my deck of things that would blow around with 30-40 mph winds....but hope the down staters are OK. Especially CTC.

Fred, if your in N.J. who is taking care of the house? You should have some strong winds through there overnight?

Just 3 weeks from the Tampa game...gotta be better than tonight's fiasco.

Couldn't get the stream to work and even the radio broadcast. Everything switched to storm coverage. Passed out in the 1st quarter. Guess it was a good game to miss.

Pictures coming in from my hometown in Marathon look devastating. I know the oceanside flooded at least 8'. Haven't heard of bayside flooding yet. Breaks my heart to even think about. Sounds like will be a few days to inspect all the bridges. I heard from a cop friend expect about a month before re-entry. But my family's alive and well and that's what matters.

I really hope all of our BBI family made out ok and is safe. Seems like the rest of the state was somewhat spared.
Anybody have any idea how Matlacha faired?

My in laws have a home there, and obviously we're all worried about whether it's still there or not. I heard they were expecting the entire little island to be under a 10 foot storm surge.

Lots of destruction and devastation. I can see my roof, but looks like the back porch is damaged, downed trees, and possible flooding. But it's there. My boat is on its trailer but maybe the bow was blown up and resting on the transom or lower unit now. Looks like both of our ferry boats we left in the water made it. Still to early to really tell how good or bad every thing is but at least it's there. Can't wait to get in there and see for myself.

Had a snowplowing side business before I moved down here in the later 70's. The winter of 77'/78' made me enough money to make it possible.
