I know there has been a few threads on this some about the game others on prep for the storm. I was hoping to have one solely for current conditions and how everyone is doing?
My sister and her family are in Jupiter they made the decision to stay even before the shift west however I have not been able to get in touch with her yet today. I was wondering if anyone here is in that area and can shed some light on how things are going in that area?
If possible use this thread to give updates on the area you are in so friends can keep track of each other during this crazy storm. I know a lot of you have been kind of screwed with the predictions of this thing and being able to prep for it.
My prayers are with you, you’re family and you’re properties.
Good luck all
Damn thing keeps wobbling. Can't tell if we'll get hit by the eye wall or not.
Tampa is in for a long night.

Starting to pick up speed and should move faster this afternoon. Hopefully it gets going and gets out of there. 8 AM has it a few miles west of 5 AM track. Probably makes surge worse as it stays just off shore until north of Tampa unfortunately it stays in that bath water longer...
Good luck everyone. Stay safe!

Not to make light of what you are dealing with
Do horses float or can swim? I am seriously curious on why you would put them out in the elements of the storm or is this something that is simply common practice?
Stay safe and best wishes to you and yours.
That might bring flooding inland?
Good luck everyone. Stay safe!
Forecast was not botched at all. All of Florida was in the track cone. It could have gone through the Bahamas or miss Florida all together. If you read the notices it says there are errors of up to 200 miles on the 5 day forecast and 150 miles on the 4 day forecast.
Hurricane tracks are not really "accurate" until inside 72 hours and even then can wobble up to the last couple hours. Those of us that live here know this and somebody always gets the crappy end of the stick.

Just moved the horses to my next door neighbors into their open pasture. Everything is buttoned up and waiting for it to get here. Looks like ~20 hours @ 6 mph.

I'm about 20 miles inland so right on the cusp of 100+ winds. 100 and lower and it will be beer time. Another 20 mile move to the west and we will will be golden. Surge is not a problem for me.
Actually had a few people who had to evacuate come over here.
Still have direct TV. don't know how. Also power.
Thinking about the safety of all those on the west coast.
Just texted with someone I know in the Tampa/Sarasota area. They are taking shelter in a warehouse. Does not look good - rain and winds already picking up.
FWIW.
Was stated on the news this morning.

Best wishes ctc. Yes that 20 miles makes a huge difference if it just gets you out of the eye wall.
It looks to me that Irma is moving almost directly North or just East of North. Was looking at the Key West radar loop - might be an eye wall wobble or it might be tracking towards Everglades City....

That could be a disaster in the making... Why put drivers on the road?.
Not starting the generator until Irma Passes
My brother luckily escaped from Fort Myers, I'm hoping his place fares better because although he's close to the water he's in a new home, I'm hoping they put enough engineering into it to keep it intact (for the most part).
I'll be thinking of you guys -- and hope it isn't too bad

Got to wonder if that dude is still alive....
Potential Darwin Award winner....
The comments on that link are hysterical.

Hurricane tracks are not really "accurate"...
Obviously not. With all the technology, models, etc. I expected a little more accurate forecast. They had this going east of Miami just a few days ago. It went significantly west. Yeah, they got it going north when it Cuba, so that was good.

We'll be on the east side of the eye of Irma. East side brings highest winds and tornadoes. Expecting a rough night but I pray for all to stay safe. Go Big Blue!!

Seriously, someone is going to die on camera during one of these storms.

If you follow the forecasts it actually pretty much stayed within the predicted area. Hard to type a reply and not sound like a wise ass (not my intention but sometimes it reads that way I'm certain), but if you were used to weather forecasting and tropical storm forecasting, getting within a 100 mile range 5 days out is next to impossible. There are so many variables that it is just not possible to put the path into a 20 mile wide corridor that far out. Even now Irma is actually tracking straight North and not NNW as predicted 5 hrs ago. The computer models themselves do not match exactly and they (NWS) use an average of the models to make a predicted track. They weight the prediction on ones that seem to be more right than wrong (like the Euro - more right).
So many thing come into making these things move across the oceans - temperature air and water, surface pressures & high altitude pressures, winds high and low, surface/land features and most of the influences are moving themselves and are dependent on adjacent weather factors not even in the area...any of which that change subtly alter the storm which in turn alters the other dynamics.
Best thoughts and prayers for everyone down there in FLA.
That's just stupid stick the wind gauge out the window.
The worst part of social media people trying to out do others at this time, not the sharpest crayon in the box IMO.

You're just way off base. The storm is right in the window of the path projected days ago. From Wednesday:
We live on Pine Island just across the bay from Sanibel and Captiva. We were going to stick it out when it was going up the east coast. We evacuated to the Vero Beach yesterday. Now projections have the eye passing directly over our little island and we expect to be homeless come Monday.
Best thoughts and prayers for everyone down there in FLA.
No doubt they get hazard pay for going out into the middle of a hurricane
I think the worst of the eye wall went 20 miles south of my house in Marathon and crushed Big Pine Key where my boss lives. I called and cursed him out Thursday night because he was going to stay with his 25 yr old son. 3 hrs later he called me from the road. I just saw a picture of cars outside our high school almost completely under water. Town must be demolished. Insane to think people stayed and many stayed living on their boats! I'm guessing at least 20 dead from our harbor.
Planned coming up here months ago once the Giants schedule came out. So I'd be back for the game in Tampa. We always come up this time of year. Grandson Birthday and a Giants game!
My brother in law from Miami went to our nieces in Riverview, just south of Tampa, then when the track shifted west they all then went to my house (25 miles west of Orlando). Don't know what is worse the in-laws , 10 of them kids an all, or Irma. I'm not there to control 'em.
Maybe 1 hour maybe 2
