NFT: IRMA updates from our BBI family in Florida?

bigblue1124 : 9/10/2017 7:42 am
I know there has been a few threads on this some about the game others on prep for the storm. I was hoping to have one solely for current conditions and how everyone is doing?
My sister and her family are in Jupiter they made the decision to stay even before the shift west however I have not been able to get in touch with her yet today. I was wondering if anyone here is in that area and can shed some light on how things are going in that area?

If possible use this thread to give updates on the area you are in so friends can keep track of each other during this crazy storm. I know a lot of you have been kind of screwed with the predictions of this thing and being able to prep for it.
My prayers are with you, you’re family and you’re properties.
Good luck all

80 mph winds. Have power. Can't see the game. NBC is all hurricane coverage. How can I stream the game?

About a half hour before game time, the streaming links will be posted.

For those that are bored, Jets/Bills game is on
Those in Broward and elsewhere, it's on some channel called MyTV
Neighbor told me about it a few minutes ago when I mentioned how watching football would sure help the day go faster.
Irma's eye about to go over Naples

once the eye passes over the storm surge will come flooding into the city due to Irma's moving north

My home is in Rotonda FL, but I'm up north on a planned trip to RI. Came up two weeks ago, before any hurricane; I guess you could call it an accidental evacuation. Irma should pass over my house in FL about kickoff time. I will be able to watch the game up here unlike many of you but very worried about the house and all my friends and neighbors.

Prof, did you get your shutters up before you left or did somebody get them for you?
Left way before Irma

So I didn't button down excessively. Neighbor has secured house as best as possible and removed irreplaceables.
Ok in Miramar.

Sounds like worst is past us. Just heard 142 mph in Naples. Bridges may be out in keys. No entry until further notice. No power here 2 hrs now.

Things are fairly comfortable at the moment. It's very windy outside but nothing too crazy.
Watching the west side
section125 : 9/10/2017 5:17 pm : link
of the storm start to dry up. 5 pm NHC says wind down to 95. Really supposed to start deteriorating "relatively" quickly. Fingers crossed.

The most consistent bad weather we've had in Melbourne. Rain very high winds and constant tornado warnings. Power and satellite miraculously still on. I've got tequila and football on the iPad. Be safe everyone.

Actually was watching the giants game. Why I was short.

Got everything powered up. Who knows when the real power comes on.

It was an experience.

Most hurricane fatalities occur after the storm ends. People don't respect floodwaters, aren't wary of electrical lines or damaged structures, run generators in garages, etc. Keep your guard up and use common sense.

Don't expect even a whimper in FWB. Did clear my deck of things that would blow around with 30-40 mph winds....but hope the down staters are OK. Especially CTC.

Fred, if your in N.J. who is taking care of the house? You should have some strong winds through there overnight?

Just 3 weeks from the Tampa game...gotta be better than tonight's fiasco.
Any one near Port Charlotte
BigBlue in Keys : 9/11/2017 3:26 am : link
or New Port Richey? Wondering how they made out for friends and family.
Was up for 40+ hrs straight
BigBlue in Keys : 9/11/2017 3:56 am : link
Couldn't get the stream to work and even the radio broadcast. Everything switched to storm coverage. Passed out in the 1st quarter. Guess it was a good game to miss.

Pictures coming in from my hometown in Marathon look devastating. I know the oceanside flooded at least 8'. Haven't heard of bayside flooding yet. Breaks my heart to even think about. Sounds like will be a few days to inspect all the bridges. I heard from a cop friend expect about a month before re-entry. But my family's alive and well and that's what matters.

I really hope all of our BBI family made out ok and is safe. Seems like the rest of the state was somewhat spared.
Anybody have any idea how Matlacha faired?
Britt in VA : 9/11/2017 8:30 am : link
My in laws have a home there, and obviously we're all worried about whether it's still there or not. I heard they were expecting the entire little island to be under a 10 foot storm surge.

... how 'bout them 2-0 Terps, huh?
Just saw satellite imaging of Marathon.

Lots of destruction and devastation. I can see my roof, but looks like the back porch is damaged, downed trees, and possible flooding. But it's there. My boat is on its trailer but maybe the bow was blown up and resting on the transom or lower unit now. Looks like both of our ferry boats we left in the water made it. Still to early to really tell how good or bad every thing is but at least it's there. Can't wait to get in there and see for myself.

Got power back at 3:45 this afternoon, 6 days and 3 hours and 20 minutes after we lost it.

Let me try and answer some questions posed.

Had a snowplowing side business before I moved down here in the later 70's. The winter of 77'/78' made me enough money to make it possible.
