NFT: Bourbon Advice Needed

SchindlersFist : 9/10/2017 5:00 pm
The liquor store near my apartment just started stocking WL Weller 12 Year. I've never had it but have heard great things, and it's definitely hard to come by in NYC, but it's priced at $46 for the bottle. I've heard this can be found for as low as $25 so I'm confilicted. Is this the normal NYC price, or am I better off staying away?

it, but $46 for a good bottle of Bourbon doesn't seem obscene. Hell, if you want some whiskey, get it!

I collect (hoard)t burbon and can safely say Weller 12 should be snatched up whenever you find it. $46 is a good price because it's incredibly difficult to find. I would venture to say if you pass on it, it'll be impossible to find again. Just my two cents. I'd probably buy a few bottles if you can swing it and hold a few.

store is it?
There might be a lesser grade version for $25

Is my guess. Most of the better small batch bourbons are all between 40 and 60
I'd definitely pay it to try it at least it

worst case is you spend $20 you didn't need to. I've spent $20 on worse things.

I like Blantons and Woodford Reserve as two of my favorite bournobs and most of the time they're right in that price range.

If I want cheaper bourbon I get the 1792 small batch

Much appreciated

Agreed, the $20 difference isn't a huge deal. Just wasn't sure if it was the same quality as other bourbons at the same price point.

If a store near me (in brooklyn) had weller 12 for $45 i'd prob buy 5 and store them. i'm not kidding - i could see these being worth $200 or more on the secondary market in a few years (if not sooner). There's a ton of different Wellers out there, so please make sure it's actually Weller 12 year.

delicious. Like Blantons and Woodford a little better, but I like Angels Envy too.
Weller 12 year is ok

But if you are going to spend 50 bucks I'd spend it on a bottle of Breckinridge. You don't need to spend a lot of money for good bourbon. I'd recommend Eagle Rare or Evan Williams single barrel, which are about $12-15 cheaper.
