Is Eli done?

Hereditaryemperor : 9/10/2017 11:14 pm
He doesn't look like that "eli-te" QB no more.

at this point who cares, just stack up yards and start more games. More to add to the bust in the HOF. It was a good run though.

Marshall looks like garbage too.

The Mahomes rumor was thoroughly debunked and Geno is basically on a vet min deal, having had to beat out Josh Johnson.

That was ugly. The offense is completely broken. It was embarrassing and maybe to shake Eli up a bit, you start Geno next week. Eli looks lost and tired and the offense uninspired. We were never in that game. Tha D kept it closer than it had a right to be.

So you feel good about that performance? All check downs and 3pts on the board hey let's cherry pick the completion %.

Whether you blame Eli or the line or a combination -- don't cite tonight's stat line if you want to make a point.

by design, but he makes no effort to go through his progressions. I know he usually has no time, but he is doing that even down big and with the time running out. Playing like that, he could play another 100 consecutive games but the Giants wouldn't win many of those.

Not only should it be allowed, it's warranted. Eli has had way too many bad games in his last 25 or so starts. Wayyyy too many. Criticizing his play doesn't mean you don't respect what he's done in the past. The blind Eli defenders don't seem to get that.
Eli is expected to win
Doomster : 9/10/2017 11:41 pm : link
with an OL that continually breaks down in pass protection.....has no speed/power at the RB position.....and has Marshall(who he has no connection with), SS(who must average 1 yard after a catch), Double E(who looked like a rookie out there, yet BBI thought was the second coming of OBj at TE), and Lewis for receivers(Lewis has to learn, if he can't make the catch, to not let the defender catch it either).....Man, does Vereen look slow......

And yes, Eli did miss two big third down throws to Marshall......and he still has trouble hitting short passes in stride(his whole career).....yes, the OL is partly at fault for this......but 2017 Eli, is not 2011 Eli, who could make chicken salad out of chicken scraps.....

But damn it, I did not see the TE's helping the Tackles out tonight.....Kudo's to Flowers, it took until the fourth quarter until he was charged with holding.....
Looking at the rush too much. How many passes were
Jimmy Googs : 9/10/2017 11:43 pm : link
thrown with a Dallas defender 1 yard to the left and right of the target...30%??

He is not the player that can overcome this oline and poor running game.

We threw away the first half by doing NOTHING, exhausted our defense and then became desperate on Offense by middle of 3QTR.

Quite the gameplan...

It's a fair question to be asked. Eli has been terrible now for more than a season. We obviously have no OL, no apparent RB talent and what seems to be a truly inept and horrendous offensive game plan very consistently. But Eli has not been good for a long time both independently and along with those other flaws on O.

Not only should it be allowed, it's warranted. Eli has had way too many bad games in his last 25 or so starts. Wayyyy too many. Criticizing his play doesn't mean you don't respect what he's done in the past. The blind Eli defenders don't seem to get that.

I'm at a point where I think Eli's internal clock is likely permanently busted, but "25 or so starts" goes back into 2015 and very few were complaining about his play that year (no should they have been).

That hit in the first Washington game last year seemed to be what sent him on this stretch.
Bull crap - Its all about a clean pocket and time to throw
PatersonPlank : 9/10/2017 11:52 pm : link
Eli was always getting pushed back into, and having to move around the pocket to buy more time. Never was he able to sit back there and go through his progressions. You guys make it sound like Eli is the only guy who has a hard time functioning behind a crap line. Do you watch other games? Did you see your hero Brady on Thursday? He hit 40% of his passes because he was harrassed constantly.

This is not rocket science. If you want a QB to read the defense, look at multiple receivers, and pick the right pass, then you have to give him more than 2 seconds before he needs to start moving back there.
But just pick a really quick Tight End in Round 1
Jimmy Googs : 9/10/2017 11:54 pm : link
so your guys don't have to block that long.

or maybe not...
The OPs style can be grating
mfsd : 9/10/2017 11:55 pm : link
but it's perfectly reasonable to ask the question he asked. Was there any point in the game where anyone here felt Eli looking comfortable and confident running the offense, and we had a legit chance to win?

And this Dallas defense isn't shit. Sean Lee is an excellent LB, but outside of him it's criminal we couldn't exploit them

I honestly don't know how to measure out the blame for Eli, McAdoo, Sullivan, the OL, the skill guys...except to say it's some combo thereof.

I love Eli and always will, but it's no stretch to question him after tonight's fucking embarrassment

Had happy feet all night tonight. Enough of the excuses for this guy. He is who he is...mediocre QB who absolutely makes noone around him better and doesn't do a single thing extremely well. You can't take the 2 SB's away but we need to make plans quickly to find his successor.

this game.

The Cowboys' pass rush, which was their biggest concern during the off season, was all over Manning, while the Giants' defense in the first half especially played without any passion or emotion.

I hope that McAdoo has a Plan B in case the offensive line came up sucking again.
So sick of McAdoofus

BlackLight : 9/11/2017 1:10 am : link
I didn't see any indication of it tonight. He's played far worse in recent game than what we saw in Dallas.

If the line doesn't get better in pass protection, he's never going to look like an athlete in his physical prime.
Doomsters got it mostly right
Bluesbreaker : 9/11/2017 1:10 am : link
I am with you on the Mac offense I didn;t like it from the get go . But I figured they know a hell of a lot more than me but after last season Not addressing the O-line was a Big mistake . We have watched it for how many years now ?
We couldn't score last season and nothing has changed except on paper we have better receivers and we still can't score this offense does not work to Eli's strengths the looks he was giving tonight reminded me of someone who hated there job but they were to afraid to complain . I have never seen him like that . This organization is crapping out the end of his career its sad to watch .
Can Eli play behind this line?

All of that may be true, but it still rings hollow to quote his completion percentage when, even down 2+ scores with two minutes to go, Eli was checking down repeatedly to Vereen. How many percentage points did he add to his completion percentage while essentially whittling down the final few minutes of the clock with no particular urgency? I already went ahead and did the math: he picked up four points on the final drive alone.

Of the eight completions on that final drive, only one was more than 10 yards. And overall, 19 of his 29 completions for the night went to Vereen, Shepard, Perkins or Darkwa, all of whom averaged less than seven yards per reception for the game (blended average for all four: 5.4 yards per reception).

This is not a great game to point to Eli's completion percentage as a point in his favor. In fact, I'd say it might actually be emblematic of him playing a little bit scared. And I'm not trying to absolve the OL of their share of the blame - they're part and parcel of why Eli is playing the way he is - but I don't know how anybody can feel great about Eli's performance last night.
Eli?
Giant John : 9/11/2017 5:03 am : link
Is he responsible for a run game that does nothing? Is he responsible for play calling? Is he responsible for yards after the catch? Let's worry about Eli after we get a line that opens running holes, gives time to pass and receivers that get yards after a catch. Not saying Eli is perfect but first fix what's wrong. The Giants fave not been able to do that.
This reminds me..
GeorgeAdams33 : 9/11/2017 5:09 am : link
...of the calls for Kerry Collins to be benched in 03' when our offensive line was the biggest joke in the league.

TC & Gilbride would still be here going for their 3rd ring if Jerry Reese wasn't so inept at judging and obtaining offensive linemen. All of our recent high picks were reaches because the need was allowed to fester for so damn long. I want Pugh to walk because he is not an NFL lineman. Ditto for Weston Ragdoll. Not quite ready to give up on Flowers, but the QB would be better off with him at RT.

All of our FA singings have amounted to nothing as well. The jury is still out on Fluker because John Jerry was given the benefit of the doubt for "continuity's" sake. For some reason we are hell bent on trying to make chicken salad out of chicken shit with Bobby friggin Hart. Any moron who proclaims himself as "the best RT in the league" before he's even held onto the starting job he was given for even half a season.

In 2018, once and for all, the offensive line must receive every FA dollar to be spent and every draft choice. We also need a good free safety because of the fact that I don't have any faith in Thompson & Adams to be anything special. Outside of that, I want this offensive line almost completely rebuilt.
Thank you
Hereditaryemperor : 9/11/2017 5:29 am : link
Justin Pugh fucking sucks
Going into next season
GeorgeAdams33 : 9/11/2017 5:31 am : link
I would start off by looking for a veteran tandem at LT & LG. We would also need a veteran swing tackle.

I would plan on my starters at C and on the right side to be Jones, Fluker, and Flowers until they lose the jobs they are given.

Every high pick would be made with the offensive line in mind. It would be great to draft at least one guy at each position. A Center with some real size and strength would be great to have. A young tackle who is athletic and powerful would be nice. A guard who can move people and hold his ground would be a welcome addition.

So tired of this crap and it really is starting to resemble 03'
Yes, he does
GeorgeAdams33 : 9/11/2017 5:42 am : link
I know that I'm not supposed to feed you, especially after midnight, but I can't stand Pugh, Richburg, Jerry, or Hart. I don't even like Wheeler and Gettis. Can't stomach Bisnowaty..... I want these guys benched, gone, and replaced.

Jones is a fighter. Flowers & Fluker are big, strong, and talented. They are all young enough to keep around for awhile. I would give them all some time, but I want options waiting in the wings. I love using extra linemen as extra blockers on some plays and it would open up the field for our receivers.
Is Eli Done?
Jeffrey : 9/11/2017 8:22 am : link
Almost. He is almost 37. He is not mobile and unlike his brother he is not a highly accurate passer. He is saddled with an inept line, middling running backs and a coach who seems to have forgotten that he is supposed to be a creative offensive coach. If he is not done he will be soon as there is no way to survive this combination.
Eli
siena16 : 9/11/2017 8:40 am : link
When a quarterback reaches his mid to upper 30's and has played 200 games he doesn't want to take those hits anymore. Eli doesn't slide or maneuver in the pocket like he did 5 years ago and with this O-line he needs to be able to move within the pocket to create opportunities

Most of the game he had very little time.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/11/2017 11:34 am : link
The few occasions he did have time, he wasn't overly accurate.

Mostly on the OLine, though. It's been 5-6 years. I guess one year soon the GM/FO will fix it...I think.
I don't think too many are defending Eli's performance last night,
Section331 : 9/11/2017 12:11 pm : link
just the rush to judgement about his being done. And before anyone points to last year, he had Odell and absolute garbage everywhere else, and garbage would have been an improvement over his OL. Yet he still threw for 4,000 yards, 26 TD's and 16 INT's.

So don't jump down the throats of fans who reflexively defend the guy who led us to 2 SB wins because we are not ready to declare him done just yet.
