Biggest disappointment . . . Marshall

AnnapolisMike : 9/10/2017 11:18 pm
Yes...the right side of the OL is not so great. But Marshall with ONE garbage catch when OBJ is on the sideline. That is a big red flag. If he is done, the Giants offense is in even bigger trouble.

You're joking, right?
...
BleedBlue : 9/10/2017 11:19 pm : link
he is DONE as a NUMBER 1 guy....but as a compliment to the offense and in red zone he is a weapon...i really think people underestimate what OBJ brings to the table. forget production...teams literally change the way they cover when obj on the field...
Marshall was standing wide open for a big gain

When Eli threw the ball somewhere across the Oklahoma border.
I honestly saw more from Victor Cruz without legs than BM

BM is done.
Not at all
AnnapolisMike : 9/10/2017 11:20 pm : link
maybe there is just no chemistry with Eli. But the Giants needed him to be an upgrade at WR. He did not show that tonight.

He should have made the catch.

sometimes he shows up and sometimes he doesn't. There's a reason the Giants are his 5th or 6th team.

he'll realize he didn't look for Marshall enough. He'll be targeted more next week.
What did he do wrong?
KWALL2 : 9/10/2017 11:23 pm : link
Eli never looked his way.

They didn't do a damn thing to get him the ball in this game.

Certainly having OBJ on the field will open things up. But based on what I saw...his days as a game changing WR are over.
Why do you think
Doomster : 9/10/2017 11:26 pm : link
Marshall came here?

He wanted to go to a team where he didn't have to be the #1 WR.....and in the very first game he was counted on to be it......

But I also blame the coaching staff, for not having Eli throw to Marshall more in preseason....

It looked like the Giants did not have an offensive plan if OBj could not play.....

Bad offensive coaching in this game....it looked like there was no game plan....

In one series at the end of the game, IT TOOK 3 COMPLETIONS to get a first down! Three!
Boo...just dumb
DonQuixote : 9/10/2017 11:27 pm : link
Which of our WRs stood out to make you think it is Marshall who is done? Is Sterling Shepard done, or Engram?

You cannot catch a ball that is not thrown near you.

Brandon Marshall is the
bluepepper : 9/10/2017 11:28 pm : link
not high on my worry list right now. When Beckham comes back, Marshall will be the 3rd option at WR. Much bigger problem is that OL sucks to the high heavens and we have very little hopes for improvement there. Maybe some combo of Wheeler/Fluker/Jones will save us but that's a Hail Mary.

With what, a 10 foot pole with a butterfly net attached? The ball was nowhere near him.

Nope, the pass had no touch and was off target.
Biggest disappointment for me

Is getting out coached.

I expected the OL to be shitty but I never expected Ben to not game plan around their weakness.

That pass was pretty much a prayer.

Eli was under pressure and threw it out there to avoid a sack.

Scandrick in the game, kept us out of the end zone for 60 minutes??

wow...we suck on offense.

Can we start drafting Olineman please...
We have no idea
hassan : 9/10/2017 11:34 pm : link
Not a single thing done to help get him open or target him. Lewis got more looks from Eli.

Classic overreaction. Giants looked bad tonight. A lot of people looked bad. The coach looked scared with no odb. The line and Manning were both so bad hard to say about receivers....

This does show how important Odell is. Wonder what kind of damage he would do in an o like Atlanta or playing with pats or Steelers.
Agree w the OP
WillVAB : 9/10/2017 11:55 pm : link
Zero separation all night long. On the RZ play where Eli got sacked he looked for a fade to Marshall and he wasn't even trying to beat the coverage.

Eli tried a deep shot down the left side and Marshall was blanketed, didn't even try to fight towards the balll.

On the Eli "misthrow," wasn't a bad throw at all. Eli led him up the field and Marshall was just standing there watching the game.

Very disappointed. I thought Marshall could impact tonight and frankly he looked like he just didn't give a shit.
He wasn't trying.....

KWALL2 : 9/11/2017 12:00 am : link
You think that was marshalls fault?

Take Eli's balls out of your mouth for second and go watch the replay.

Marshall was WIDE open. Eli missed him. That's the story on that play.
Oh wait...
KWALL2 : 9/11/2017 12:01 am : link
Your talking about the throw on the short crossing route when he got one hand on it. That was his fault? Wrong again sparky.
Banks was going on and on about not throwing the ball to Marshall.
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 9/11/2017 12:13 am : link
How many catches can the guy make when he's targeted three times?

Do you want to say that Eli didn't throw the ball to Marshall because he wasn't open?

Eli only had time to look for one receiver, and he wasn't looking for Marshall.

Maybe they should actually let Eli and his new receiver play a little more in the preseason
Brandon Marshall is done?
joeinpa : 9/11/2017 12:14 am : link
you know this after one game!

Even though it is so predictable, it still amazes me how fans cannot see past the very last thing they have seen when drawing conclusions about things in sports.

Marshall is done? That is beyond ridiculous.

You want to say the offensive line stinks, there is at least some rational for that, 2 years of lousy football is a pretty fair example.

No you thought right. I'm talking about the play where Marshall is standing near the sideline with his finger up his ass and then half assed throws a hand out and slaps the ball away when Eli goes to him.

Look, no one here has all 22 footage of the game and can illustrate examples where Marshall was open and Eli missed him. If someone does and can post I'll gladly admit I was wrong.

But based on the televised footage, I saw a guy who didn't compete and want getting looks because he wasn't open.
Y'know, the other team gets a say in this.

Remember Little Bill telling his guys in the Super Bowl "It's still a Cruz and Nicks game. Make 'em go to Pascoe, make 'em go to Manningham."

Maybe the Cowboys game plan was "Without Beckham, it's a Marshall and Shepard game. Make 'em go to Engram, make 'em go to Lewis."

Maybe they had a good plan and executed it well. Or the Giants stunk up the joint. Or both.
Maybe you should talk to Carl Banks about that.
SB 42 and 46 and ? : 9/11/2017 12:29 am : link
He admitted that Eli didn't have time to read more than one receiver and said that that one receiver should have been a playmaker. Marshall.

He said that on one play early in the second half Marshall was running down the right sideline uncovered and the ball was thrown short to Shepard.

This guy had caught a pass in 159 consecutive games and he was targeted three times tonight.

I did say "if" he was done. Based on today performance...and his general decline last year. It is certainly a possibility. What did he show tonight to prove otherwise?

Time will tell, but we were counting on Marshall bringing something to the table.

Watch the play again. He ran across the field. Throw was awful and far behind him. No chance to catch it. None.

yeah you are wrong like Kwall said. Not only did Eli miss him each time he went in his direction but he WAS open all of the first half and quite a bit in the second half. You can see it in a few screen shots on TV but then if you listened to the radio broadcast Bob Papa was saying how open Marshall was. The problem is Marshall is not running those 3-4 yard dump off routes that Eli is looking for right now. Eli has not time for Marshall's route to develop. A play could be blown up even before Marshall makes his first cut.

The play where Marshall found a spot in the zone and Eli misfired wasn't Marshall's fault. But that's the only visible play from the broadcast where Marshall created an opportunity to make a play.

I'm sorry, but this is bullshit. Marshall completely blew that play. He doesn't have a defender within 20 yards, and Eli is running for his life. He should have sat down and presented a target. Instead he was still running towards the LOS as the ball got there. Where the hell was he going? He's a vet, he has to understand the situation better.

I don't know which play you're talking about - but on that play, Eli wasn't running for his life. If you mean the pocket was starting to collapse, well - it was what, 4 seconds later? He's not going to get 10 seconds to sit back there and decide what to do with the ball.

That's certainly plausible but I'd like to see it. Maybe one of the best writers will write an article about it.

If true, this offense is in trouble. That would mean a few different things:

1. The OL is so bad that schematically they're forced to throw quick/short.

2. Whomever is creating the offensive game plans doesn't know how to or refuses to feature/get Marshall involved.

3. The protection is so bad Eli doesn't have time to go through his progressions and/or time for Marshall's route to develop.
