The offensive line...

SFGFNCGiantsFan : 9/10/2017 11:24 pm
Like, wow. I'm at a loss for words. I didn't think it'd be a strength, but good God. How does McAdoo justify starting either Hart or Jerry next week?
I didn't think Hart was quite that bad
jcn56 : 9/10/2017 11:24 pm : link
although nowhere close to good - Jerry needs the bench. Even if Jones is worse - which I find hard to believe - he needs to sit down.
How is anyone surprised ?
Ned In Atlanta : 9/10/2017 11:26 pm : link
A UFA and a never was journey-man. O line sucked last year and is the exact same unit as last year. Hopefully this underscores how important OBJ is/shuts up the morons who want him gone
The is on the OL - Eli hit 75% of his passes but they were only
PatersonPlank : 9/10/2017 11:27 pm : link
for 7.5 yds per catch. There is no way to go down the field and hit medium-long passes with the time he is getting. In addition where is the running game?
...
Mdgiantsfan : 9/10/2017 11:27 pm : link
with better TEs, is it too much to ask them to chip the DEs? Our tackles need the help.
It's a bad record
cokeduplt : 9/10/2017 11:27 pm : link
At this point. Glaring weakness that the front office doesn't try to improve. It's madness

Substandard across the board

Fringe NFL players. Reese sucks the cak evaluating what makes a good unit.
it's not even average as "some" wrote about on here
micky : 9/10/2017 11:29 pm : link
which is scary with the "so-called" continuity.

yeah right.

Having a top 3 WR in the league helps to hide the substandard O line. But people dislike him because he went on a boat trip and is a weird dude
No offense to anyone

but if you're surprised you're a bit of a fool. Awful last season, they took a HUGE gamble in believing several below average players would all simultaneously improve, and they were awful all preseason. If you thought this was gonna go smoothly you're just not being honest with yourself.

Told us all we need to know. We stink......
the thing about Jerry is that
bluepepper : 9/10/2017 11:31 pm : link
pass blocking is supposed to be his strength. That's why he plays. And right out of the block he gives up a sack and gets a holding penalty. That's got to make the coaches think of a change, right?

Thank you for being the voice of reason
As a HC you should of seen this coming and

You're right, though I thought they'd be a bit better.
Just wait until they play a top 20 defense

things should really go well with those 5 pieces of garbage "blocking".

It's tough man. You hope. It's impossible not to. Especially when there's so much GD talent on the roster. I hoped, anyway. But after the first two drives it was obvious. And that's NOT reactionary or "game thread bitching". That's a logical deduction based on the last 13 months of football this team has played. The TEs have changes, some receivers have changed, a few defensive players have changed. But in the end, not a god damn thing has changed.

Holy Christ I'm disgusted...

Who's going to play? They have 8-9 olinemen and each guy is worse than the next. It's a complete embarrassment.
Same five guys sucked last season.

The OL is going to torpedo the season (again), which is what we've all feared since the spring. And those responsible for allowing it to do so will go unscathed. That's the frustrating part.

No kidding. Side note: Did anyone catch Goff's stat line? Maybe Whitworth was actually worth paying after all?
4 of the OL had a better game then I think people realized.
Giants_West : 9/10/2017 11:53 pm : link
or will give them credit for.

Jerry was so fucking bad. His play really reduces everyone else's margin of error to zero. The rest of the line isn't and shouldn't need to be, that that perfect for the offense to just function in some basic way. To not look completely inept.

That being said, we actually ran better than I was expecting. Should have had Darkwa in on GL carries. I think he scores on the play that Perkins ran. That and not getting hosed on the interference call and jerry shitting the bed in first half pass pro and this is quite a different game.

Really? Dak Prescott hit short passes all night long. Most of his completions were short QUICK passes and his receivers made plays with them.

Eli had several plays (the worst was the play they called Richburg for being down field) were he had people open quickly and waited too long to throw. On the Richburg ineligible play, Engram was wide open right in front of Eli early and would have gotten 8-10 yds, but Eli turned away and delayed then tried to make a short pass. Several times he had open swing passes and quick slants and he decided to hold the ball until too late and then made a 3 yd pass.
Are you kidding me...you reduced that game to a few plays
Jimmy Googs : 9/10/2017 11:56 pm : link
that go either way and we win??

Now that is a fan...
The right side of our line, especially Jerry, sucked

I thought Flowers and Pugh did fine. I honestly don't see why Jerry is in there. Jones looked much better to me.

Did you watch any of that game? You think we have fringe players out there, the Colts are running out a 53 man roster of guys that *wish* they could be fringe players.
I counted close to ten plays
IIT : 9/11/2017 12:08 am : link
where Eli bailed out the line by moving around in the pocket and completing passes (or not, but at least there was no sack). And this was pressure coming in less than two seconds. I shudder to think how bad it would have been if he hadn't. This line is a joke. I don't like drama, and it's only one game, but it's not an understatement to call it a catastrophe. So, so bad.
The offensive line...
Torrag : 9/11/2017 12:12 am : link
...still sucks.

Not really a surprise since they added no talent to a group that derailed our offense last year. John Jerry is the worst starting RG in the league. Hart couldn't handle a guy that will be a backup in Dallas when all their suspensions end. Our vaunted Center ruchburg hasn't played well in a long, long time. If Pugh is our best lineman we are in big trouble.

tonight. That's something, right?
Jerry and Hart
WillVAB : 9/11/2017 12:30 am : link
Are not starting caliber players. I think Flowers/Pugh/Richberg were ok tonight.

On a side note, I'm tired of reading how young Hart is. He fucking sucks. I'd rather have an Aaron Ross aged rookie who can play than a 21 year old who sucks ass.

They need the next Snee and McKenzie in the worst way.
I'm willing to bet that Hart improves a lot
SHO'NUFF : 9/11/2017 12:45 am : link
with better help at RG. Hart got beat a few times, but recovered enough for Eli to step up. Jerry just flat out got beat.
Jerry needs to sit
AnnapolisMike : 9/11/2017 1:48 am : link
shake something up....

I actually don't think the line was horrid. Earlier today...Cousins and Wentz were being chased all over the pocket. Those teams scored. You can score with a bad offensive line.

The Giants can't do anything on offense.

A lot of this is on Eli..
Sean : 9/11/2017 7:25 am : link
No QB has a perfect situation around him. Eli had time and missed throws quite a bit. He does not have confidence in the line, but that's no excuse to be missing plays.
The
AcidTest : 9/11/2017 9:08 am : link
OL is again the weak unit. Dallas got pressure with just four or five, and dropped six or seven into coverage. That allowed them as Dungy said to “squeeze” towards the LOS, and cut off most throwing lanes and windows. Eli had plenty of time to throw on a number of plays, but everyone was double covered. Shepard was knocked around like a pinball. Eli thus had a lot of short completions for very few yards. The play to Engram up the sideline looked like a blown coverage.

Hart and Jerry were awful. Richburg was again moved back into Eli. Our OL are heavy footed and slow. They lumber. Hart was repeatedly beaten around the edge, forcing Eli to step up into the pocket. Eli’s immobility simply exacerbates this problem.

Perkins was somewhat indecisive, but there was nowhere to run. Darkwa’s 10 yard run was our longest of the night.

Eli missed open receivers, especially Marshall in the flat for what would have been an easy first down. He also looked indecisive and unsure, probably because he understandably didn’t trust his protection, especially around the edge.

McAdoo made no in game adjustments, and I wonder if he will just off one game, no matter how badly the OL played. But I would bench Jerry for Jones. I’d also have no hesitation about removing Hart if he continues to struggle. I’d try Wheeler. He lacks Hart’s mass, but appears to have quicker feet.

Something has to be done.
Dallas rushed 4 players and still created all kinds of pressure
PatersonPlank : 9/11/2017 9:19 am : link
This allowed them to drop 7 players to cover our 3/4. So with lots of pressure, and no real open spaces, what QB could do anything. Its all on the OL. We can't run either, which would have helped. If we could have run we would have forced Dallas to bring up players in run support. Our OL sucks.
