The offense was hot garbage, sure. No argument from me against that.
But year after year after year after year, we make judgments about the Giants and other NFL teams after one game. And in the vast majority of cases, those judgments end up wrong -- especially in today's NFL, where there's little consistency from week to week.
There are many, many examples, of course, but an obvious one that comes to mind is...remember how awful the Giants defense was after weeks 1 AND 2 in 2007? But even last year, after 5 games, McAdoo was in over his head, Eli was cooked, etc. But things got much better after that.
I'm not saying that this Giants team has a Super Bowl run in them. I'm not saying there aren't huge red flags on this roster and coaching staff.
It's just a reminder that we really have no idea how this season is going to play out. There will be weeks when the Giants win and look good doing so. And people will be equally tempted to conclude that that's the "real" Giants, and everything will be starting to click, and all that. That will probably be an error in judgment, as well.
Let's get Beckham back, get Eli some more practice time with Marshall, and hope McAdoo mixes up the offensive packages with some more creativity.
The good news tonight is that week 1 in the NFL rarely tells a season's story.
I just find it hard to believe the guys on the bench could be much worse, so I hold out hope that maybe they swap a fresh body or two in and things improve.
Our offense will look a lot different, and a lot better, with our #1 WR in the huddle. It's pretty damned hard to just completely make up for the loss of OBJ with guys like Roger Lewis (who, incidentally, had some nice moments tonight).
Everyone needs to chill. It's one game.
My point about the 2007 defense was only that people were flipping out about how awful the defense was and how Spags wasn't any good. Nobody knew what would be coming later.
There might be improvements to the offense coming this season that we just can't see yet.
Eli did not play in the first and fourth games....hardly in the second, and a little more in the third.....don't tell me that didn't have an affect on throwing to Marshall and Double E....
This defense is solid, but it can't be out on the field as much as it has been....
The offense is anemic without OBj......it reminded me of the Minny game when OBj was suspended....
There is no guarantee OBj plays even next week......
Detroit put up 35 points against a supposedly solid Cardinal defense.....Mac has 6 days to fix the Offense....
The Legend of Solari is now declared a myth....
He doesn't block poorly, run indecisive, or throw inaccurately.
There was a year in the sixties when Lombardi's Packer beat the hell out of us in a Championship game. This was the worst beating since then and I don't see any change coming down the road.
We just played a D that has 4 key players on suspension, a remade back 4, and a couple of important players injured and they dominated us.
I would be willing to chalk up Manning's performance to lack of work during the preseason. He looked rusty, didn't have chemistry, that will change.
However, the offensive line was just getting beat physically and looked out classed by what isn't a premier Cowboy's defensive line. I don't see their performance being a by product of week one, especially since this was the same group that played together all of last year.
Dallas is an above average team that has a blueprint on offense that keeps their defense fresh. The Marinelli defense may not be talented but they do hustle and swarm to the ball. Dak Prescott at this point will not beat you with his arm which is inaccurate past 15 yards, The one thing he does well is not turn the ball over and he can get a first down with his feet.

What a crock of shit... your last sentence. "the worst beating since" You must have missed a few games along the way.
