Please Fire Jerry Reese

lpi1963 : 9/11/2017 2:25 am
Not knee jerk reaction, He sucks as a GM, never upgraded the OLINE , his one job this off season was to upgrade the OLINE, Hart, Jerry and Flowers are 3 of the worst lineman in the NFL, its a shame
So totally not a knee jerk reaction.

.
The time to part with him, if it was to happen, was a few years ago.
Devon : 9/11/2017 2:42 am : link
When the roster was bottom of the league and the team was missing the playoff routinely.

Since then, he's drafted Odell and rebuilt the defense into a great unit. They're coming off an 11-5 season. Even accounting for how much of a mess the OL continues to be, that's more than enough for his job security, at least through when the next QB comes in and he finally has some sort of legit say in that.
just poor management
lpi1963 : 9/11/2017 2:43 am : link
He signed Marshall a ME player and let Blount sign with the eagles when the Giants needed a back, just poor management
The Giants didn't need a new RB to start
BlackLight : 9/11/2017 2:50 am : link
They needed a line that could block for the guys they had. Both Perkins and Darkwa have proven they can gain yards if the blocking is there.

Never upgraded the O-line?
SHO'NUFF : 9/11/2017 3:13 am : link
He signed Fluker and extended John Jerry for a couple more years!
I must have been watching a different game.
Cam in MO : 9/11/2017 3:18 am : link
The o-line wasn't great, but they weren't horrible.

Eli couldn't hit an open receiver to save his life. He was way off on all but the 3-4yd throws- and he even missed some of those. Add to that playing with happy feet (which some of that fall on the o-line) and you end up with the 1995 Giants all over again...except this time without a decent running game.

Again how who was out there
BigBlueDownTheShore : 9/11/2017 6:02 am : link
For him to sign? We didn't have the cap space for the 2 players that were worth signing in the offseason and this years draft was super poor at offensive line.
Silly thread of course. But this O-line thing is a

With some of the best FA and draft classes of any GM in the league. Let's forget about OBJ and Shepard and OV and Snacks and JPP and Jenkins and DRC and Collins and everyone else on the team.

If this was a one year problem then your statement is valid.. the OL is had been a problem for 5 years and going.. at this point it doesn't matter who was available this particular off season..
Well

No, but when it comes to the OL, he can be charged with criminal negligence. Going with the same line that sucked last year.

Other than Jerry not knowing what the hell he was doing (which is par for the course), they were passable. A lot of dirty pockets but there were plays to be made. Eli may be done. We knew coming into the season that was a big question he needs to play WAY better than he did. Also 13 runs? One of the biggest issues is Mac's offense. He's running a variation of the GB offense which is ONLY effective because of Rogers. The offensive philosophy blows. Without OBJ they should have more trouble BUT what we witnessed was unacceptable incompetence. What were they attacking? What is their base to work off of?
They looked clueless and that's on the OC and he head coach. There's a good chance Beckham may not be himself all season so Mac better get this figured out DAMN quick!
Stop, jerry is the best gm in the league,

I don't want to start a battle but that O-line play was atrocious, never a clean pocket, no running attack at all and was completely overwhelmed by a mediocre defense. Although I agree there were a few plays to be made, the window was so tight it gave Eli virtually no time. On the one drive they had at the start of the second half Dallas had a jailbreak sack forcing a FG. Eli's play is a direct result of having no time at all and constantly being moved off his spot with his own lineman being pushed back into his face...pathetic!
Yawn
Rflairr : 9/11/2017 8:35 am : link
He can't coach the damn team too. People can't claim before the season this is one of the Giants most talented teams. And then blame the GM when the team doesn't perform. There are no perfect teams. Every team has a weakness. It's up to the coaching staff to scheme around it. We're just continuing to learn McAdoo is a shitty coach

+1

I think Mac was good as an OC, and I like him as a HC. I don't think he's proven he can effectively perform both jobs. Hand over to Sullivan, and if things don't improve, Mara should Hufnagel him.

This wasn't funny the first time you said it and it gets less funny with each subsequent repetition.

The guy was injured. What exactly do you want?
Aside for a couple of plays
nygiants16 : 9/11/2017 8:48 am : link
eli stepped up and had time to throw and just missed receivers...

it seemed like after the first sack eli got skiddish, it looked like the vikings game last year where eli felt pressure he immediately threw it...

and on the goal line sack, that is on eli, it was a 3 step drop and fade to marshall, eli did not get rid of it. he has to know if a 3 step drop is called he jist as to get rid of it
You can't blame Reese for not fixing
Doomster : 9/11/2017 8:58 am : link
the OL this past off season.....there wasn't much out there in free agency, and what there was, was way over priced......and it was one of the lesser years for drafting OLmen, although he did trade up for one in the 6th round, which he eventually cut.....

What you can blame him for is, backing this OL into a corner over the last 6 seasons....poor draft picks and poor free agent signings.....we are reaping what he has sewn....
You are delusional....

A couple of plays? He was hurried all night......

Exactly who was open last night? The Marshall throw was bad, but it wasn't like he had a clean pocket when he threw it...he was on the run for his life, and threw across his body....but he did miss Marshall on another third down pass.....let's face it, they don't have any chemistry yet.....the question is, will they?

Marshal was covered...he started to look elsewhere, and the rush was there....

I have no idea what game you were watching....

to fix this OLine and has failed every single time. It's not out of the question if this OLine doesn't improve significantly over the next 15 games. Last night was on the OLine.
It's fair to question
bceagle05 : 9/11/2017 11:32 am : link
if he's capable of building a good offensive line. When he took over in 2007 he had an excellent line in place, all of whom were in their primes. He was not proactive enough in finding replacements once the decline started, and when he finally did throw prime resources at it, he largely swung and missed. Geoff Schwartz sucked. Pugh and Richburg are solid but underwhelming relative to their draft status. I still see a lot of potential in Flowers but obviously the jury is out. It's incredible that John Jerry has started this many games for the Giants.
The Giants
BigBlueWhale : 9/11/2017 11:35 am : link
tried to get Saban at the last second. Almost got it done. Then settled for McAdoo.

But you can't blame Reese. He's not in charge. As soon as you realize that you realize he isn't going anywhere. Mara isn't firing himself or any of his confidants.
You can blame Reese for the OLine.
Dave in Hoboken : 9/11/2017 11:37 am : link
It's been quite awhile now with this shit O-Line.

How did you watch that game last night and arrive at this conclusion? Coverage sacks resulting from plays where nobody got open. Checkdowns on 3rd down when there were players open beyond the sticks. Passes that sailed over receivers heads when there was plenty of time.

The OL wasn't great yesterday - but it was certainly not the only or primary factor in the loss.

They weren't the only factor, but were absolutely one of the primary factors. A combination of Eli having to run for his life and yet another game of pretty much no run game whatsoever against an average defense were pretty large factors in our offense never finding it's groove at any point in the game. The few times Eli did have time, he was inaccurate, as well. That's on him.

OK we drafted 3 of starting lineman either the first or second round. Our starting RT is a draft pic. We have also had some failed FA pickups over that same 5 year period of time, so again, what moves would you have made.
