Eli Manning - Passing yards vs Yards in the Air

jlukes : 9/11/2017 7:55 am
Did anyone see the stat graph towards the beginning of the game where they showed a graph that had Eli Manning's % of passing yards through the air?

It showed a steady decline over the last 5 years, all the way to 28th in the NFL last year.

I know we want to get the ball in OBJ's hands as often as possible, and those bubble screens and quick slants are definitely effective, but holy hell I never through the Giants would be one of the worst teams in the NFL in terms of passing the ball downfield.

Bad oline

take a look at last night. Everything short even on third and long. Hell, he throws a 2 yard pass on 3rd and 4. It was sickening.

Yeah, that got me too. I just don't get it. This same offense led to 2 of Eli's best years.
In the fourth quarter,

it took THREE COMPLETIONS to get a first down....pathetic.....
Excacty!

I thought the same thing! I don't care how bad the O-Line was, Eli was worse.
One of the things about Eli and the short passing game is
jlukes : 9/11/2017 8:09 am : link
he isn't the best QB at hitting the WRs in stride, so YAC is often minimized because of that.

A lot of the routes are not even designed to have guys running. Too many of them have the WR run out a few yards, stop and turn to Eli.

Definitely agree, made that comment last night, a lot of short passes to receivers with their back to the defense, no shot at advancing the ball.
We were 28th?

Imagine if we didn't have OBj last year.....we would be 40th, even though there are 32 teams....
Gilbride was given much of the blame during his run

but anyone with a brain could see the receiving group he had lacked talent and the mental capacity to run his read and react offense. They bring in a coach who runs this WCO that lacks creativity and big play ability, and this is the result.

3 and outs are killing us

You have to take some chances throwing downfield, even if it results in a few more sacks and INTs.

Its not all about mobility. You don't need to be fast to move around buy sometime and have some confidence throwing on the move. In 2011 Eli was off the charts good at it, and he wasn't very mobile back then. He also wasn't afraid to make a mistake. If this team wants success this year the QB needs to stop playing scared.

you hit the nail on the head... that stat in and of itself is not horrible. But the quick short passing game only works when the QB is decisive and accurate. Hitting the receivers in stride and before the defense has sniffed the play out.
when you tthrow a ton of balls...

under five yards with guys not getting free, that stat is going to shine through...............
