Deja Vu Offense.....

Doomster : 9/11/2017 8:38 am
I thought I was watching the same Offensive game against Minny when OBj was suspended.....it shows how one dimensional this offense is.....it's OBj or nothing......

There is no excuse for not being prepared to play without OBj....in the Minny game, we had one week.....we knew for a couple weeks, he might not be ready.....

Eli did not play in the first and fourth preseason games, played little in second, and slightly more in the third....never completed a pass to Marshall in preseason and it showed.....these last two preseasons under Mac, this offense has not performed in preseason, and yet the switch is suppose to come on once the season starts?

Yes, Eli missed two big third down passes to Marshall.....but Marshall was never really involved in this game....The OL did not let Eli get comfortable in the pocket....how many Giant receivers were wide open?....I remember only two plays, the throw to Lewis and the throw to Double E.....but for the most part, Eli had to thread the needle because guys were not wide open, and when he hit them, basically there was no yac....

Two major flaws in Eli's playing last year, were present again in last night's game....One, he tends to stare down receivers, and the DB's are watching this...Second, for this type of offense, he is just a bad passer in the short game.....he can hit the receiver, but not in stride......how many times do we see receivers get immediately tackled, because they dive or reach back or have to leap for passes?......I've always said, Eli is more accurate on a 40 yard pass than a 4 yard pass....that is his game....but because of the shortcomings of this OL, they forced his style to change, where he throws short/quick passes, because he just does not have the time....

Check out the series, with 1:55 left in the game....it will take a td, 2pts, onside recovery, td, and 2 pts to tie the game.....a sense of Urgency, no? Eli throws for 4 yd completion....then a 5 yard completion....two completions, and no first down....next play he throws to Lewis for a first down......IT TOOK 3 COMPLETIONS TO GET A FIRST DOWN!.....This is the vanilla offense this team has....

Is Marshall done, or is there no connection between him and Eli? Double E has to do more deep seam routes, not these short passes across the field....

But nothing was done to the OL.....it is what it is.....35 rushing yards in a game.....sad....Thank you Mr. Reese.....you have hamstringed your franchise QB for the last 6 seasons......better hope OBj returns soon and can contribute, or this is going to get even uglier....
Eli is handcuffed by the playbook.

Eli missed some pretty easy throws last night - even if that were true, he hasn't done anything to acquit himself recently.
That's more complicated than it needs to be

If the OL can't run block or pass black against a very average DL then the offense will suck. Period. I'll buy the rest when the OL plays well enough to evaluate the WRs or the offensive strategy or whatever else.
Offensive line is still pretty bad.
NorwoodWideRight : 9/11/2017 8:45 am : link
Eli is just as bad. Running game is anemic. The people putting 100% of the blame on the OL haven't paid attention for the past 2 1/2 years.
Ben Dover McAdoo
averagejoe : 9/11/2017 8:50 am : link
The shitshow that is the Giant offense is all on Ben McAdoo. He is an offensive coach and he needs to be fired for this offense. I would fire him today. He has failed. Last night was the seventh straight game the Giants have not scored 20 points. In his 18 game head coaching career the Giants HAVE NEVER SCORED 30 POINTS in a game. Not once. He has to go. He really believes his dink and dunk offense can work. He is wrong. Eli's strength is making tough throws downfield. He won two super bowls doing that. Eli is inconsistent on short underneath throws and the OL is HORRIFIC. McAdoo's pathetic game plan can only succeed when Beckham takes a 5 yard slant 70 yards. And Nancy Hairdo wasn't playing yesterday. Only his hairdresser knows for sure.

The OL is the worst in the NFL. No cohesion and we are starting two guys on the right side that probably could not make another NFL roster. Kevin Greene said playing OL/DL in the NFL is easy. Either you are kicking his ass or he is kicking yours. Dallas kicked ass last night on every snap.

Giants won 11 games last year because of Spags defense. Fire McAdon't and make him HC.

I'm putting this on Eli.

The rest of the league doesn't have stellar OLINE work. There are plenty of teams out there with shit to mediocre lines and they seem to be able to play.

Eli's play has regressed. He stares down receivers. He misses open plays. He goes to his check down all day. He has happy feet. He's hearing footsteps. He's too worried to make a mistake.

Remember Macadoo alluding to this last year?

What do you have to do as a defense? Rush 4, and just keep all receivers in front of you. Eli can't pick apart defenses anymore. He just can't.

I can see us going 0-6. It's going to come time to bench him if this keeps up.
The first drive in the 3rd qtr
GiantsRage2007 : 9/11/2017 8:55 am : link
Was great. 2 TE and a FB one play, then 5 wr the next. Dallas had to sub. Creative plays...screens, fake reverse, extra blockers on the run plays...

Then the rest of the game, back to 3 wr & 1 te mostly.

I don't get it.

And it took them over half the quarter to do it and came away with 3 points. Not really all that great, even if it was better than the other 3 1/2 quarters.
Not

Sure it would make a difference, how about having someone else called the plays. Ben has refused to do that. Maybe since they have NOT scored 30 since he's been HC and calling the plays he should give someone else the chance.
from various interviews it seems like

our team has a huge playbook, can run almost anything.

and we know that the practices are limited by the league....

so, given that I agree with the OP;

that tells me that the OC and C do not have a very strong concept that they want to pursue, or don't have a strong idea of trends in the league, or have stubbornly ignored the need to adjust play style to team needs (the OL cannot do what they have been asking them to do for a few years, i.e. to sit back and read and react to DLers and rushers in a pure pass pro style blocking method regardless of how quick ball gets out).
Brian Billick
HoustonGiant : 9/11/2017 9:24 am : link
and his Ravens. Billick was always thought to be an offensive "genius" but the D won everything.
its a disconnect
idiotsavant : 9/11/2017 9:29 am : link
like you tell your doctor 'I have migraines!' and he gives you something for elbo, then tries a scrip for leg....guessing at what might work

with a huge playbook, yet throwing spaghetti at the fridge to see what sticks.

whereas league trends and team needs are obvious
even -within- 'run more' (Which I support)
idiotsavant : 9/11/2017 9:34 am : link
we seem to be stuck in relatively passive run types, inside gap traps and stuff, such as that don't get the whole unit firing out quickly and with enough violence to create an effect on the overall play balance.

not enough cohesion between blocking assignments' run/pass synergy

still stuck therefor with weak play action, contrast simple fake to Dallas' RB easy toss to Whitten, TD.

That all starts on the OL.
why I prefer darkwa or even the FB
idiotsavant : 9/11/2017 9:37 am : link
at very least the guy plays with a bit of thump, which helps in the above regard

Disagree big time, if this O-line plays even mediocre the giants could have won last night. Their continued piss-poor play has ruined the run game and forced Eli out of his game
(though he is not entirely blameless). And yeah I've been paying attention, at times nauseatingly so.

Yeah, the same Spags who by your logic would have been fired after his defense gave up over 80 POINTS in the first 2 games of the 2007 season.

I hated last nights game as much as anyone, but it's a long season and virtually all seasons contain stinkers.

Opening flat without your most important offensive player sucks, but is far from shocking.
